  1. Ill assume you meant figuratively. After last night, I can't be sure.
  2. While I certainly do not condone the behavior, sometimes we forget that these guys are basically college kids when it comes to age and maturity levels. 20 somethings have gotten in far bigger altercations with far less cause. Granted they're millinaire athletes, but being rich has never been something that lowers one's douchiness level. The bottom line is that I'm not going to vilify a 20 year old for a moment of stupidity. He's a long way from Milton Bradley and Elijah Dukes.
  3. I just though that this thread would be as good as any for me to express my burning desire for the Cubs to acquire Bryce Harper.
  4. When you bring family into the equation, all bets are off. O Dogg from Menace II Society approves this message approves this message.
  5. I know it's early, but it looks like we already have a frontrunner for the 2013 Micah Hoffpauir/Jake Fox/Bryan LaHair Memorial Award. A few more hot weeks could force their hand to call him up. Unlike AAAA mashers past, Sweeney has had some legit big league success, and about the same age as the others were when they were mashing PCL pitching for the 3rd or 4th season.
  6. Hopefully Soler's youthful fire ultimately translates to on the field intensity rather than alcohol feuled hate crimes.
  7. Who was the one year wonder about 10 years ago and went to the Braves and sucked? Dan Kolb. I remember rumors that we were interested in him before the Brewers traded him to Atlanta. To be fair, we did have our own one of those in Joe Borowskie. Nite: until just now lookin up Joe's career stats, I thought that he was a rookie when we first brought him up, but apparently he'd kicked around between the Yankees and Orioles since '95. Besides their closers, a few years back they also had a set up man they plucked from an indie league that baffled hitters with a Shingo-style 50 mph change up until they started torching it.
  8. John Axford is basically the Marmol of the North. What is it with The Brewers and guys that come out of nowhere for one season as a lights out closer and then turn back into pumpkins?
  9. Yeah. He's the worst. He got a rise out of Brett, and pissed off Brett's followers that otherwise wouldn't pay attention to him; reeling people into his column by pissing them off. It's What Paul Sullivan 's been doing for years.
  10. Big League pitchers finally caught on to the fact that he can not hit curveball.
  11. And his prediction will finally come true when he comes in to pitch against us in the bottom of the 9th in game 7 of the 2016 NLCS with his team up by 6.
  12. Perhaps. But depending on when Barney returns, if he were to be called up he should be given plenty of playing time. One of Lillibridge and Gonzalez would likely be cut to make room for him, and there's no reason that the other should be given playing time over him. At this point, I can't imagine him being any type of downgrade from those two.
  13. :D That thread from last year was hilarious. Some posters hung onto that thought all season long. And by all season, you mean through early June when his season ended.
  14. Wow, Wood, should probably avoid pitching to the Herpes Hammer when possible.
  15. Rather see him in Chicago than the craptacular duo they've been throwing out there. Yeah, I'm really not sure what they're saving him for. God forbid Brent Lillibridge don't get as much PT as possible. Besides, Watkins future is likely as a utility man, so it's not like he's a prospect who absolutely must play every game if he's called up.
  16. This would have been a nice win after yesterday. oh well. You know what they say; a fake rally's better than no rally at all.
  17. At least Theo only plans on making us wander the desert for another 2-3 years before leading us to the promised land.
  18. I do like having Loux, but my thinking is that a big part of the excitement over him is the thought of seemingly getting something for nothing as a throw in-to be honest, at this point I don't remember if it was for Dempster or Soto.
  19. The Brewers are back to the days of an offense capable of scoring 10 runs per game but pitching capable of giving up 12 to a competant offense. Sadly, we dont have one of those.
  20. The Cubs have him through 2015. I love the Shark but I'm not sure acting at the height of his value is the most prudent move. Is it through 2015 or until 2015(through 2014)?
  21. They need to shut down Shark for the season like now. All he's doing is drastically jacking up the price of his contract at this point. And let's face it, it' s not like the bullpen isnt going to squander his effort. Seriously though, the Cubs need to get to work on holding him tight and never letting go.
  22. Not really. Yeah, no kidding; the game was still easily winnable after the 8th. Winning by one run or eight is the same end result. So scoring a couple runs when they had 1st and 3rd with one out in the seventh or bases loaded with no outs in the eighth with 1-2-3 in the order coming up wouldn't have mattered? It was a total team fail today (sans Villanueva, who was pretty good). The offense could have (and should have) scored more and if the Cubs are up 8-1, there's obviously a better chance they win the game. But the pen should be able to close the game out up 5-1 going into the eighth. Rizzo and Schierholtz say hi.
  23. Teams are always looking for reliable middle relief in the summer. If nothing else, Marmol would be an appealing part of a package. He still has great velo, though not the filth he once had. If he can be a dominant or even an effective middle reliever, teams will call, though the offers will be far from awe inspiring. Even if we get a 25 year old AA LOOGY and a raw, low A lottery ticket, it's better than buying him a way ticket to anywhere but here with nothing in return. Also, with his velo there will always be teams who feel as though their pitching coaches can fix him, especially if its a low risk rental. And lest we forget, we got a pretty solid return for Latroy Hawkins back when it was pretty much common knowledge that his relationship with the Cubs was about to expire. Granted, Latroy didn't nearly blow his first three save opportunities in comical fashion, but he didn't have Marmol's pure stuff either. And I highly doubt that Marmol will be quite this awful for a month or two.
