More often than not, minor league "signings" of this type are simply spring training invites, and the player has the option of walking if they don't make the big league roster. If nothing else it reminds me of a teary and broken Dirk Diggler crawling back to Burt Reynolds after his meteoric rise to fame and subsequent plummet to the depths of hell.

I'm certainly excited to watch and see how the 162 regular season games unfold, and that's more than I was able to say the past few winters. If when the Summer rolls around we're competing, and in position to make moves to make us better, then it will be more exciting. That's how I used to view the baseball season as a kid.

Here we go again. Anyone can listen to offers on anyone. However, my assumption is that any proposals not starting with something along of Profar/Olt or Bundy/Machado won't be heard.

If Bourne isn't an option, I'd still love to get a hold of a low risk OF and perhaps trade DeJesus. I'm talking a low risk guy, a former top prospect that's still young enough that they could be productive big leaguers but also at a discount price. A few options: Dom Brown: probably won't fit into the low cost catagory. If they wouldn't give him up for Soriano, with 90% of his salary covered, I'm not sure what it would take. John Mayberry Jr.: former 1st rounder, twice. 29 years old and has hit for a bit of power at the big league level. Doesn't get on base much though. Michael Taylor: A's have a glut of outfielders. Taylor's 27 and has hit well in the minors but not much big league succes in small sample size. Jose Tabata: former stud prospect. Still 24, but Pirates may be moving in. If not: Travis Snider: still could pan out, though it's getting late. Roger Bernardina: Seemed to be figuring it out with the bat last year. Nats acquisition of Span to go with Morse, Werth, and that other guy could make this Shark bait. At the right price, I'd give him a look. Carlos Peguero: not sure what the Mariners are doing, but he was once a solid prospect and is 26. Delmon Young: he certainly has the young, former top prospect, decent power thing going. Wil Venable: while he's not Chase Headley, he does rank 13th in negative home/road OPS splits over the past years with .775 on the road vs. .683 at Cavernous Hell Hole Stadium. These are simply flier worthy options at the right price. Certainly nothing resembling a sure thing. Any other similar possibilities?

It's hard to believe we could get him on a decent contract when he's got 5 teams interested in him. I was thinking the same thing. But who are the 5 teams? Also, how does he define interested? In agent speak, "They didn't laugh then hang up"= interest. I can't imagine a few teams not offering at least something heavy in incentives. However, what it takes me back to is the reports that the Dodgers and Angels were both interested in Fujikawa, making it seem like the price would get out of hand.

Do Jensen and McNeil rate anywhere on this list?

Hey, at least it would beat another Eddie Vedder song. As for antics, I think that the only guy I wouldn't be able to tolerate no matter how good he was for us is Jose Valverde.

It's hard to believe we could get him on a decent contract when he's got 5 teams interested in him. The term "interested" is relative. It also depends on the root of the reports. If its the agent, if he called every team in baseball, and 5 expressed any degree of interest, be it on minor league or big league deals, he can then rightfully report that 5 teams are interested to work them against one another for the most lucrative deal possible.

If Garza eventually gets moved to Texas I can't imagine a deal that doesn't involve Olt coming back. I can. Garza's a 1 year rental with questionable health even if ST goes well. If Olt's on the table, I could definitely see Oakland or Atlanta offering someone with a lot more team control. This isn't to say that we won't be able to get something nice and valueable from the Rangers for Garza though. That system stays stacked.

The Beach Boy or the pitcher? In either case, at the right price I'll take him. Marmol's on the last year of his deal, and if we could get Wilson on something with a low base salary, incentives, and team options, all the better. As for his personality, if he were on our side, I'd find it a lot more palatable, perhaps amusing.

Flirting with .500 can be exciting with the extra Wild Card and the ability to make moves in the summer, obviously without giving up any key prospects. Unless someone comes to us with an offer we can't refuse for Garza, Soriano, or whomever, we may as well go for it. Maybe even pick up another bat be it Bourne or another Ian Stewart low risk type. I can't imagine having a better rotation than Garza, Shark, Jackson, and 2 of Baker/Villanueva/Feldman/Wood the next few years. The bullpen should be very strong as well. If July rolls around and things aren't looking good, we'll have plenty of moveable pieces to sell off; Marmol, Garza, Soriano, DeJesus, Baker, and Feldman could bring back useful pieces.

Torryes: I still like him, especially with a lot of experts still being high on him despite a rough 2012, even though he did pick it up in the 2nd half. Golden: I'm aone in this, and again, I' still going off 3 year old drft reports but I like the ceiling. Loux: A lot of guys bunched together here, but I guess Loux based off of his top 10 pick status. All and all, it's very nice still having this many intriguing prospects this far down.

Underwood. Have o go with him based on ceiling. DOn't get me wrong, I do like Szczur through. I never bought into the Juan Pierre comps, but the more recent Reed Johsnon ones I do, and a healthy Reed Johnson in his prime is a valuable player to have at low cost and years of team control, even as a 4th OF.

And in the blink of an eye, Cody Ross and Nick Swisher are off the market. If you need anything, you know where to come Mr. Amaro.

Not gonna lie. That is a part of it for me. That, and adding someone with what were at draft time, a good/great fastball and change with our pitching development, he could add that third pitch and be a good starter. He'll suffer a fall faster than McNutt, if he doesn't come out of the gate strong though. If I recall there were rumors of torn labrum, and an elbow that forecast a TJ surgery in his near future. Has either of those been dealt with? If not, why not TJ now? That is my reasoning as well. You'd think that Hayden Simpson would get more consideration as a top 20 pick. I kid. However, I guess that makes it a bit surprising that McNutt, who's the same age as Loux isn't gettying any votes based off of his status as a top 50 prospect. I know the past few years were rough for him, but we forget how ridiculous he was at the lower levels. When we gave up Archer over him in the Garza trade, few people thought twice. Still, like a lot of the Hendry era prospects, 2013 will be a big year for him in regards to his future with the organization.

Sure it is. With a guy that offers the reward that Kazmir does, if anyone felt comfortable with him, couldn't they give him a low base/incentive heavy big league deal?

I remember because of the Farney thing. Of course he'll be remembered for his days with the Reds when he was Reed Johnson X 10, which is what lead to said concussions.
