  1. What I do not understand about the Tigers is why not just use Porcello in the bullpen. That's a thought that often comes up whenever a team shops an extra starter with potential to be at least a quality mid rotation starter. My thinking is that they're simply more valuable as a trade chip than as a reliable reliever.
  2. I agree that you need rotation depth, but when you have as deep a rotation as the Tigers have, and a guy like Porcello who could likely step in as a 4 or even 3 starter in a lot of big league rotations, I say that you shop him for the best possible return, be it a reliever or otherwise. Even if they did lose a starter, the Tigers are deep enough overall that they could survive with some sort of Rodrigo Lopez type at the back of the rotation until something better comes along.
  3. I don't think that anyone has ever accused Nate Schierholtz of being a savior. However, if he can hit around his .826 OPS vs. RHP and Hairston his .867 vs. LHP, that would equal one very nice bat for just under 5MM, and even if not, at the price, it's certainly worth it.
  4. To me, what it comes down to is what we need more. Porcello may be a safer bet to be a big league regular, probably a 4 starter. But is that enough to put him above a guy with the ceiling of Olt? We have a handful of intriguing 3B options throughout the system: Vitters, Villanueva, Canderlerio, maybe Lake, but none are a sure thing to be anything, unless you consider either Baez or Castro as the long term answer at 3rd. As far as starting pitching goes, we have Jackson, Shark and Wood for several years. There's also Baker and Feldman if they're viewed as extension candidates rather than guys to flip in the Summer and Vizcaino, Cabrera, and Bowden who could be 2013-2014 rotation candidates. I'd love to add something in a front end starter, but I'm not thinking that Porcello's ever going to be that. If we could get either guy for 1 year of Carlos Marmol, I'd jump at it, but if given my choice, I'd got with Olt.
  5. My thinking is at this point, Theo's only moving him to further build the youth movement. There's no reason to railroad him out of town for the sake of doing so at this point. He still puts up better numbers than you're likely to get by pulling another LaHair out of AAA. If nobody's giving up what we want at this point, try again in July. I do think that they're willing to eat as much salary as it takes to get the best player return possible. Assuming we're eating 30 some mil, nobody can fault them for wanting something of real value. Even if he does fall off a cliff, our system's strong enough that we can afford to play chicken without banging our heads over missing out on a few fringe prospects, if that's all that's been offered at this point.
  6. Marmol could be a good one year fix for them while they give Rondon the year as a set up guy. Marmol for Porcello? I'm in. *click* GM> I could certainly see a deal based around that scenrio if it turns out that Garza will be out longer than expected.
  7. Schierhotz/Hairston are a more than formidable platoon in RF. Jackson puts up a .280/.320/.450 line in Iowa, and by June DeJesus is traded and Jackson takes over CF with Sappelt as a 5th OF. Matt Szczur takes Jackson's place at Iowa and does well enough to satisfy his believers, but not enough to impress his critics.
  8. Marmol could be a good one year fix for them while they give Rondon the year as a set up guy.
  9. Always more fun than acknowledging the point.
  10. Oh, good, at least you learned something this stupid. So am I wrong in thinking that they have had 1 losing season in the past 10 years and 2 in the last 15? This isn't a pixie dust, whoa is me, only the Cubs comment, it's an acknowledgement that our chief rival always finds ways to contend, and I feel that in the next few years, we'll be able to do so as well.
  11. I'm done obsessing over anything that the Cardinals do. If there's one thing I've learned to accept it's that the Cardinals will always find ways to be good. I have faith that we have the right guys to do the same for us. We have a little ways to go before we get there, but once do, we have the monetary resources to make sure we stay there.
  12. 40. Golden: Same as before. 41. Torrez: Was intrigued by his numbers last season. BA write up makes me even more so. 42. Rodriguez: DSL numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt, but still.

  14. 1B Rizzo 2B Barney SS Castro 3B Stewart LF Soriano CF DeJesus RF Schierholtz C Castillo OF Hairston OF Sappelt IF Valbuena IF Lilibridge (Bonus prediction; 2013's scapegoat for everything that is wrong in the Cubs world) C Navarro SP Shark SP Jackson SP Baker SP Feldman SP Villanueva BP Fujikawa BP Russell BP Camp BP Rondon BP Takahashi BP Wade BP Lewis Marmol and Wood traded. Garza starts on DL Vizcaino, Cabrera, and Bowden make up 3/5 of very intriguing AAA rotation
  15. The problem with Campana goes beyond his inability to get on base. He also plays only one position. Granted with the exception of Brett Jackson, who's likely to start off in Iowa, we don't have a natural center fielder. This being said, Campana's simply too one dimensional of a player to keep around as a late inning replacement before September 1st. He'd be 7th on the OF depth chart behind Soriano, DeJesus, Schierholtz, Hairston, Jackson, and Sappelt. Also, a lot of fans seem to refer to Brent Lillibridge as the new Campana, and they're very wrong. While I don't particularly care for Lillibridge, it should be acknowledged that his defensive versatility makes him far more valuable than Campana, and could end up our main utility guy if Stewart flops and Valbuena's given 3rd, unless Vitters is ready. Though I do admit that I have no idea how good Lillibridge is at any position.
  16. Can't complain with the BP list at all, but the other guy's makes me happier. I'm going to go with the other guy's.
  17. Not sure how many people follow Twitter, but the saddest part is how more fans seem to be stressing about Campana being traded than Matt Garza potentially missing the start of the season. And I can't be the only one who notices that there wasn't this type of fan uproar when Joey Gathright and Freddy Bynum, who were essentially better versions of Tony Campana were traded. Surely there must be some reason.
  18. I'm liking this Leal guy, though it is DSL numbers. Either way, unless one of these guys back over Starlin Castro in the parking lot, chalk this trade up as a win.
  19. I'm going with Golden/C. Rod/Dunston. While all 3 could be out of organization by this time in 2014, I prefer their ceilings, or at least intrigue over guys who are far safer bets so be MLB controbuters of some degree. Considered subbing Concepcion for Dunston despite the rocky at best start to his career. Also intrigued by DSLer Daury Torrez.
  20. Towers is unfathomably bad. Their offseason moves and strategy has been one of the most puzzling things I've seen in a long time On the bright side, there's finally a market for my "I Gave Up One of the Top Pitching Prospects in Baseball, and All I Have to Show For it Is a 30 Year Old Middle Reliever" bumber stickers.
  21. Plus at this point in the offseason with 40 man spots becoming more and more scarce, it would take something of real value in order for anyone to be willing to shuffle their roster.
  22. http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4875321332860078&pid=1.7&w=94&h=140&c=7&rs=1 Their first big move of the offseason Indians are still a ? filled team though.
