  1. Really don't like the bunt there. not with what we have due up.
  2. The collective will of the entire Cub's nation for Brent Lillibridge to go away when the time for said decision arrives.
  3. Even Alberto Gonzalez didn't expect that to happen.
  4. When the hell did Chad Gaudin resume pitching professionally?
  5. Not sure why I felt comfortable with the 4-1 lead when I went into the grocery store in the 4th. At least I missed out on an inning of doom that would make Chris Volstad proud.
  6. Yeah, but he checked in at 93 in the '97 offseason. There are plenty of guys who've been a greater presence in the Top 100 that never sniffed the bigs.
  7. I bet it was one sexy display of arguing balls and strikes.know. Horse. Beaten. Dead.
  8. Pretty much. Truth is, a lot of big league managers were gritty 25th men in their playing days, and as a result, they overvalue these guys. Lillibridge as a 25th man wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but the problem is he's our 23rd man and worse than our 24th and 25th men, each of whom are pretty bad. The main difference between Lillibridge and Theriot is that Lillibridge doesn't have the delusional fans who think he's better than he is. Sadly, his manager does.
  9. Not quite sure how this game ended, but from what I can gather, Clevenger getting hurt was the least depressing part.
  10. My main point is if his minor league contract has an out clause, I'd rather keep him, even if it means having 3 LH outfielders. Everyone seems to ignore that beyond his AAA start, he has a nice little big league track record as a 4th OF.
  11. Not sure that a guy with a career 5.9 WAR in limited duty really constitutes waiting until 28 to figure it out. And his past big league track record might also be considered along with the 24 fantastic AAA at bats. Add in the fact that he was a top 50 prospect once upon a time, and he looks like exactly the type of player that Theo likes to stock up on.
  12. I'm actually quite surprised that he's in Iowa and Lillibridge and Gonzalez are on the big league club, especially with two of our projected starting infielders on the DL and ample playing time eventually. By June I'd like to see: Good Bye Lillibridge Gonzalez Clevenger Trade Soriano, DeJesus, or even Hairston if we cant get anything of use, option/DFA Sappelt (not sure if he has options) if he can't start hitting a bit. Hello Barney Stewart Watkins Sweeney
  13. I know that I've been burned by many a PCL slugger in the past, but I'm really hoping that Ryan Sweeny is given a call up sooner than later. As I said in I believe yesterday's thread, his big league track record makes him very different from Hoff/Fox/LaHair. I'm not saying that I expect him to be a Babe Ruth, but I do think that he can do what he did as a par timer between, I believe 2009-2011. That would certainly be an upgrade over anything on our bench. My assumption is that his minor league deal gives him the option of opting out if not called up at a certain time. If this is the case, if it comes down to it I'd rather risk losing Sappelt (I think he's out of options) than Sweeny. Sweeny does play all over the OF, and he, Soriano, DeJesus, Schierholtz, and Hairston gives us a nice OF mix. It's just too bad that none of those guys can spell at 1st or 3rd here and there so we could just dump Clevenger.
  14. you can probably understand why i didn't give you the benefit of the doubt. Your surly demeanor?
  15. Exciting finishes are fun, but if the Cubs do decide that they want to be taken seriously the rest of the way, they might want to consider doing something about that bullpen.
  16. Good God, it's mid-April. So much for Global Warming. That is not how global warming works. It was a facetious comment.
  17. Good God, it's mid-April. So much for Global Warming.
  18. There's a good chance he'll get at least a cup of coffee with them, so that's nice.
  19. And we'll still have a weak offense vs. one of baseball's best pitchers. Feels like a good day to let the game play out and check the box score at around 4ish.
  20. My thinking is that a lot managers love these types of gritty, max effort players because it's what they were in their own playing days and they still havn't come to grips with the fact that they too were bad.
  21. More importantly, The Dodgers can't afford to lose Kemp. They have a lot of money invested in an obvious win now team, and can't afford to lose top players to stupidity. If the Padres lose Quentin, they'll just suck slightly more.
  22. Yeah, this is mildly depressing. The season's not even two weeks old, Henny Penny. Didn't say it was necessarily a big deal. Just that I've been looking forward to the minor league season more so than the big league all Winter. More dull than upsetting. For now.
  23. I still don't see why they don't bring up Watkins. Let him play full time, and when Barney returns, return him to Iowa.
  24. Of our big 4 super exciting prospects, 2 are injured, one is off to a rough start, and the one that was doing really well just got himself suspended. If our prospects don't start picking up the face I might have to start following...the big league club.
