  1. thanks for the great insight And the same to you.
  2. I gotta admit; I'm a fan based just on how much of a slob he looks like. Corky Miller. I feel he's been the Red's backup catcher since the 80s.
  3. If the Cubs don't find some Benny Hill-esque way to lose, it will be a prime example of why a pitchers W/L record is such a flawed stat, especially for relievers.
  4. Time for the Cubs hitters and Carlos Marmol to get in line and allow Carlos Villanueva to kick them in the junk one by one.
  5. He seems to have found it this evening.
  6. Not sure what the problem is. Last year, people were pretty accepting that it would be 2-3 years before things started looking better. Not sure why that's changed because were off to a terrible start this year. Seems to me as though the plan for now is to operate like a small market team. Acquire as many assets as possible while giving up as little as possible to do so. IMHO, they've done a bang up job doing that so. By 2015, they should have a pretty good idea of what they have and what they need, and when that time comes, they should have plenty of assets to acquire what they do need. Until then, the big league field will likely be a proving ground for young players and a showcase for guys they intend to trade while they gradually stir in guys that will actually fit in with this plan.
  7. The only weapon he had was money. He could have thrown a ton of it at the free agent market . Maybe he should have thrown more than he did. However most of the experts commended him for resisting the big money guys. But who knows, as scarce as blue chip free agents are becoming these days, maybe he should have been wiling to splurge on Fielder, Darvish, Cespedes to build around and gone from there. He still could have had Stewart as his lottery ticket, as well as Soler. With the amount of money that was coming off the payroll at the time, it wouldn't have crippled the team going forward. Fielder, Cespedes, and Castro would have been a hell of a core to build around with Garza and Darvish anchoring the rotation (I leave out Shark because at the time, nobody expected him to emerge as he has thus far)
  8. Bolded have no business being on a list of bad things to happen to the Cubs. Grace being a douchebag is annoying, but he was a very good player for the Cubs. Nor does most of it, thus the silly response to a silly thread.

  10. I think Geiger is Daytona's 1B. I guess they could send him up a level and then send Vogelbach or Shoulders to Daytona. Can't imagine they plan to rush either to AA just yet though. Regardless, whatever promotions are or aren't in store for any of those guy, I doubt that Justin Bour was standing in the way. If they prefer to be more cautious with the actual prospects, they might prefer shift some organizational OF for now.
  11. To those ready to chalk up Epstein as an epic fail, what were you expecting from him when you were celebrating his signing? To immediately take what he was given and spin it into a contender? Because lest we forget, when he took over the Red Sox, he built off a perenial 90 game winner. Some of his large scale trades may have paid off, but at the time, his team was strong enough that he could afford to give up prospects for win now players. He could probably do some trades similar to those right about now, but it would derail what he's built, and even if it did crank us up to an 80 game winner, it wouldn't be long before we were back to a roster heavy in aging players with large contracts. His FA signing doesn't seem to be anything special, at least post 2005. A lot of them were disasters. Lackey, Dice-K, Crawford anyone? His draft record and the farm system are where he shined. To anyone ready to railroad him out of town, turn off the game for the next year or 2 and follow the minor leagues, but before you do so, take a look at what they looked like when he took over. To me, he seems pretty much as advertised so far. Not his fault that fans had delusions of becoming an instant 90 game winner.
  12. judging by his line, he won't be doing so for much longer.
  13. I'm at the point with Rhee and McNutt that anything we end up getting from them will be gravy.
  14. As far as advanced stats and such, how does Rizzo compare with Ryan Howard, Adam Dunn and other notable low BA/high OPS types when they were his age? Just curious, because I remember that being his long term outlook, with Howard named specifically as his ceiling.
  15. So you caught that ridiculous crap by Hawk eh? What did the human equivalent of Foghorn Leghorn have to say this time?
  16. Egad, I didn't realize that the final blow was dealt by Cesar Izturus. Injury+insult=this
  17. If nothing else, he can be a super sub so that we can stop cycling through retreads
  18. Villanueva will pitch a shut out and hit a home run. Dale Sveum will hint at filling the entire roster with pitchers. Media will take it seriously rather than the venting of a man on way over his head and at his wit's end.
  19. Glad to have missed out on that ending, but waking up to the box score is like waking up on Christmas morning to stocking full of reindeer [expletive].
  20. I have to think that they're having Stewart working on something, say pitch recognition and instructing him to lay off fastballs. There's no way he's being baffled by PCL pitching. That's usually the case when players seemingly get rocked in rehab assignments
  21. Shoulders and Vogelbach making me hope that the NL adopts the DH in the next few years.
  22. For all we know, that's his plan. Stock up as much as possible on prosepcts, and then start flipping them for big league talent. Can't argue with the plan, seeing as young impact players don't seem to be hitting free agency these days.
