  1. The problem is those so-called "clear talent differences" are completely subjective and not clear at all. Ignoring need is stupid in the NFL. Only if you suck at your job. And granted everyone sucks at some poi t or another, but you should try to suck less than everyone else. Going primarily by need or fit just ends up in reaches. If you have a real need, FA is a much more reliable means anyways. Tge draft is more about playing odds while minimuzing risk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It's not about going "primarily by need". You can't just draft an OT in the first round no matter who is there. But needs has to play a major part.

  3. This douche is going to be on a reality show very soon isn't he?
  4. How has he managed to keep an NFL job the last 4 years? Seriously. If we're all going to give coaches credit for Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers, surely we have to dock points for the guy that coaches Mark Sanchez. Right? On one hand Sanchez has gotten worse and worse and not developed at all as a QB under Cavanaugh. On the other hand, he sucks anyway and they got what they could out of him before he was exposed. He has been involved in some mediocre to awful NFL offenses throughout his career though.
  5. http://deadspin.com/5977021/breaking-down-the-craziest-half-inning-in-television-history this is a fun waste of time breakdown of a baseball scene on Elementary
  6. Really like the potential Hoke and Hoke coordinating team. I don't get it.
  7. It seems a little troubling to me that when you enter Skip Peete's name into google the autofill goes right to Skip Peete weight loss.
  8. I dont know why that eye-roll worthy. Emery is the boss of the team and should be able to assuage Trestman's fears of instability with a combo of assurances and years on his deal as OC. I dont think Trestman was a serious contender for any other HC jobs this year and likely would have become a serious candidate next year if his bear offense performed. I cant find the exact years, but Im almost sure that Angelo completely overhauled the offensive staff before 2010 in Lovie's final contract year. Correct? If it wasnt Lovie's final year, it was definately a "last chance" year. But what happens when you pull something like that is many coaches will shy away from coming into a "this is your last chance" environment. These guys all expect to be fired, but they don't want it to be after year 1 or 2. And because the next head coach would certainly have the opportunity to select his entire staff, there was nothing you could do to assuage anybody's fears if their boss's job was on the line the day they took the job. Also, Emery has said he didn't know much about Trestman until the interview process. It goes back to the problem with Emery's resume being so limited at the NFL level and having so much of his experience being with second rate college teams, and even then as a strength guy. If real change was going to be made, Lovie had to go. There's no way around that.
  9. Nobody is satisfied that the defensive staff left, but that wasn't a Bears choice, that was the coaches begging out because of loyalty to Lovie. I have to wonder why anybody isn't satisfied that we blew up the offensive staff. It was the Bears choice to fire Lovie and then hire a CFL coach who many NFL coaches likely view as unqualified to get the job. That was a good way of forcing your defensive staff's hands. You can't just make a "bold" choice without thinking about the ramifications.
  10. I don't see how Emery thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. He made a crack yesterday about how he was just a Phys Ed major and it takes him a while to figure things out. He seems quite humble. I just think he has a thing for NFL outcasts like himself. And I think the McClellin pick was a combination of two things, very poorly misjudging who actually was the best player available, and an overly dogmatic insistence on always taking BPA even when it's almost certain you will regret that pick for your team. If the BPA is a QB and you have a QB you don't take the QB. Things like salary cap allocation and team need have to be taken into account. This isn't baseball where you have 6-8 years before you have to worry about finding a spot for a guy and can let him develop.
  11. If Garza is willing to sign something like Edwin did it does not bode well for his confidence regarding his health.
  12. take it to potpourri weirdos
  13. So he got in and out of Twitter before it was cool? I wouldn't be shocked if the statement "hasn't tweeted in six years" actually means he hasn't sent a text message and doesn't really know the difference. Probably less shocking than him actually being into twitter 6 years ago. As a man surrounded by young football players and with 2 young daughters I find that impossible to believe.
  14. that is crazy
  15. I see very, very, very little excitement. Only the die-hards are excited. The Blackhawks are easily #3 in my Cubs/Bears/Blackhawks fandom, and my excitement level is quite low. If you're in Jersey, then yes, you're probably not seeing much. Teams across the league are drawing thousands to open practices and scrimmages. Tickets are selling well. This has been a blip. Well, I'm currently in Manhattan. The Rangers are a favorite and people don't really care. It's pretty ridiculous to pretend this was just a blip.
  16. He did a great job of shutting down Rivers and the SD offense this year. Could work.

  21. I hope when he graduates he gets one of those fake diplomas they give to force you to be good at the ceremony, but don't tell him it's fake.
  22. Isn't twitter just 6 years old?
