was he ever a candidate? He spent most of his career trying to be. Which probably contributed significantly to the Cubs only trying to "contend within their division" rather than build the best team possible. He sucked up to the other owners by keeping the Cubs out of the the highest echelon of spenders and contributing to the inflation.

Except during the summer when the kids are out of school, more day games would be worse. In the end it's probably a wash, and probably isn't a big factor anyway. when the kids are home from school having to work during the day is the best option.

I think he did officially retire and no thanks on the latter. Chris Cotillo reported in October that Dempster retired, but I'm not sure there has been anything beyond that.

Seriously, though, it's why I get so frustrated when people (fans and journalists, primarily) throwing another year away if you don't find "the right deal." STFU, throwing away a year of this payroll flexibility and the cost control on our position player base would be incredibly dumb, idiots. It's not like David Price is going to sign for 60/5 or something. I like dark side David, it's good that you rebooted.

sure would suck to lose a couple players over some piddly old rape! I'm not sure where I made light of anything. I stated the players were suspended, identified them for people who didn't know them and then said this would really suck for a lot of reasons if it's true. It would suck for one reason, that people raped other people.

I'd be worried about Dupree's ability to play 4-3 DE, just like I'm not sure Vic Beasley and Shane Ray can. Obviously all three are more athletic than Shea McClellin but I'm pretty nervous about tweeners who are better fits in a 3-4. I wish his name was Kenny. -

Probably because they can get away with it. I bet most teams would prefer to remain vague on injury issues, but some leagues more or less mandate that they give up the information and they are followed by a huge amount of media that wants to break the news. Most NHL injuries involve a guy (barely) skating off the ice and going to the dressing room never to be heard from again. In the NFL you have 14 different angles of close-ups, the guy goes down on the field and gets taken off by a cart and Schefter/Glazer types race to break the exact news. The NHL has never forced their teams to be open, and they are followed by a handful of Canadian reporters who respect the tradition of not releasing that information.
