    I thought about that before. But while I thought he was an intriguing candidate last time, I'm not sure I feel the same now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk toub strikes me as a potential college head coach but I have doubts about him at the nfl level

    Doesn't matter what he says. If he does it between now and Sunday the only interpretation anybody will make is that he did it because of Cutler. If he does it Monday morning after a loss he's probably in the clear.

    I'm sure the convenient answer is either 1- The whole organizational flow of command thing Or 2- too close to game day to make a change Either is BS. It puts Emery unequivocally on Cutler's side, and therefore dependent on Cutler specifically for his future. And it does completely negate the concept of the structure. If he fires Trestman specifically for benching Cutler that is in direct opposition to his statement about who gets to make what decisions. And that would put in doubt his ability to hire the best coach available next month. If Emery fires guys for benching players, he loses credibility. He could have and should have fired Trestman weeks ago if he wanted to do it at all.

    weak 55 seconds showing us dead guys, 10 seconds of a Jake Arrieta postgame team handshake focused primarily on Valaika, no Lester and it ends with Maddon awkwardly putting on a jersey. whoops, i meant to link this one neither are masterpieces but at least this one has arrieta and lester 25 seconds of the bartman play. nice work.

    I think it has a greater than zero chance of telling you something, but there is no guarantee that what it tells you is not misinformation. He could get destroyed and look awful and it won't tell you he's incapable of being a backup next year. He was taken of the practice squad to prevent another team from signing him themselves, reportedly. They didn't do it because they wanted him on the roster (unless they anticipated deactivating Cutler...)

    I don't disagree but if we had a coach in place with the best interests of the org, shouldn't Fales be the guy? From what I recall Fales was thought of as a guy that could have a 10 year career as a backup, not as a potential starter and definitely not as a rookie starter. I see no reason to player him. To see if he is actually a backup, specifically for next year. Throwing him into the fire against Detroit this week probably won't tell you anything.

    He's looked worse at times this year, but not at all times. I think last game was clearly his worst and I believe that was a throw in the towel game in response to the coaching debacle. It's disappointing and partially justifies the complaints about his attitude, but not the norm.

    Why didn't Trestman announce the change during his P.C? Unless the call to bench Cutler came straight from the top?? I don't know...there are so many unanswered questions about this team, particularly the last 2 weeks. I wish someone could get to the bottom of everything and write a book someday. Trestman is in over his head and has a bad coaching staff and all those guys are looking to cover their asses and shift blame. Not much more than that. Seems like at this point the FO should be stepping in. I guess Emery is trying to distance himself from any decision as part of the blame shifting, but realistically that is worse than getting involved and trying to restore a little bit of control these last two weeks. He absolutely should have already stepped in but the thing about Emery is he seems very much married to the structure of the organization and chain of command. The guy wants to run things like the military (his longest professional stint was with Navy) and I am guessing he views this as Trestman's decision/mistake to make. There is no 2014 season to save and stepping in at this point would go against the structure he implemented.

Plus, you don't announce changes at PC, you announce it to the team and have a press conference to discuss it after the players know. Once the players know, the media knows anyway.

    Yep everyone short of a Peyton Manning gets turned on once they are paid- in every sport. It really depends on your definition of "franchise" though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It's not about him being turned on. It's about being able to allocate the money elsewhere on the roster. Yeah, that's my point. Russell won't look as good when he's taking $16m away from teammates.

    Russell Wilson is a franchise qb until he gets paid like one. Competent qb play out of cheap draft picks and surround him with talent is a brilliant short term strategy.

    I believe Emery still supports Cutler and will be keeping him after they jettison Trestman. Don't confuse Trestman giving up on Cutler as the Bears giving up on Cutler.

    Im guessing with the recent [expletive], Cutler asked out to some extent. Or could be Trestman trying to save his job by showing another QB can get it snd push the blame to Jay (would have Clausen and McCown as evidence). I'm fairly certain this is trestman saying WTF do I have to lose? If he wins a game with jimmy he can blame it all on cutler and enough idiots would buy it to potentially make a difference. This is also why trestman needed to be fired earlier. Letting a lame duck make meaningful decisions is stupid, but also status quo for this organization.
