  1. Quite certain they'll be more to it than that. What do these ceremonial 40th round guys get beyond that. Every other story is about making some kids dream come true or something, yet your belief is that a michigan alum will funnel a significant sum of cash through the rangers to make this happen, and the rangers are happy to play along?
  2. He’s literally driven in more runs than anyone in the National League. Probably all on dropped third strikes though right?
  3. He's in line for a sweet jersey and commemorative plaque
  4. Honestly, I'll consider this whole draft a win as long as we don't pick him. The Cubs don't need the bad publicity, but I wonder on a more societal level whether he should forever be barred based on a teenage mistake (his claims of innocence not withstanding). The move toward felons voting is picking up steam, and I think that's probably consistent with where our society is going. The Obama Administration was very committed to the idea of keeping the official records of teen offenders clean as not to hamper them later on (see Nikolas Cruz). I just wonder if Luke Hemlich is different because he might make millions of dollars. Raping a kid is not a "mistake". This isn't a guy that got caught stealing a 6-pack of beer.
  5. Yeah. And he could have done that after he tried pro baseball. With 900k in his pocket. And the Cubs paying for his college. It's a completely different dynamic, though. You only get one chance to go to college in your formative years ... after that, it's just education. Similarly important, but a far different dynamic. This isn't any UVA bias ... I would say that if a kid felt it was a good decision to go to school, then I'm of the opinion that it was a good decision. kids are dumb and this decision was dumb. Pitcher break. Take the cash you dopes.
  6. I wanted to make that joke but got pulled into a meeting
  7. It was pretty great hearing Keith Hernandez ripping hard into Willson for the fake steal on the pitch before only to be interrupted mid-sentence by Javy sliding into home and having to admit it a smartly designed play. He didn't seem depressed though. That came three batters later when Contreras scored on the sac fly that barely left the infield and Hernandez sounded like he was about to cry. Yeah, Keith kept going on about how Willson lucked into scoring as he "should have been halfway down the line there." Keith thought it was poor base running. They then showed a replay, focused on Willson, showing him halfway down the line and then rushing back to the base. Gary Cohen interjected that it looked like Willson noticed the second baseman having trouble with the ball and decided to go back to be ready for that exact outcome. And Keith reiterated he should have been halfway down the line. I called both those plays live. It was awesome to see, especially happening in succession.
  8. The kids choice or the team's willingness to play along? The team’s willingness, with a top ten overall pick. If you like the guy a lot why not play along, especially as a team that is fairly desperate for ways to acquire high end talent?
  9. The kids choice or the team's willingness to play along?
  10. Thus far this draft has Wilken trying to be the smartest guy in the room written all over it. the difference being that these guys may actually be the smartest guys in the room, while wilken was only the smartest guy in the room when having one on one meetings with Hendry.
  11. I find roughly one out of five episodes to be completely hilarious, and the rest miserable.
  12. More like Jake montero I have absolutely no recollection of making this comment.
  13. Not sure if you guys have noticed but the normally svelte Jake Arrieta really let himself go once he moved away from his buddies in Chicago
