  1. Not really. 139th best player according to my favorite ranking site. Picked 115. My Steelers fan buddy thinks he was their target at the end of this round. Not sure why they drafted a 2nd ILB though. Definitely not a "need" pick If you can't find the edge guy you like nothing wrong with loading up inside if you like the guy better. Play to your strengths. But maybe they won't play him inside.
  2. You can't just call them both 2nd round picks and pretend that's the same thing. They traded into the back of the 2nd and may have traded away an early to mid 2nd to do it.
  3. Next years 2nd round pick is enormous if this team isn't a 9+ win team this year. i honestly think it just might be this horsefeathers happens in the nfl all the time and i'll be damned if i don't love almost everything that has happened since the glorious day john fox was fired. the only thing that gives me pause is the division, but those teams are subject to nfl wacky variance too so who knows. It might, and it better be.
  4. next year's 2nd and a 4th this year Eh not too bad Next years 2nd round pick is enormous if this team isn't a 9+ win team this year.
  5. Who said morrow can't close? There were a ton of things I remember seeing in the offseason about the Cubs bullpen/Morrow along the lines of “yeah they might be good but they don’t have a guy with closing experience, Morrow’s never done it.” is it 2005? I haven't heard many people talk about the "never closed" thing since people have come to appreciate the fireman style of reliever
  6. Yes, I'm a huge advocate on spending top half of draft picks on the o line regularly. Is this sarcasm?not at all it was my number one criticism of angelo. He drafted one early then relied on patchwork free agent signing for ten years and never spent as much as a 3rd on the OL. Bad line work ruins teams and young qbs all the time. I like this pick a lot.

  8. No, different positions have different impacts on the game. A non pass rushing LB doesn't have that great of an impact, outside the elitiest. You can be a quality player at a number of positions and impact the game quite a bit, while at others you need the be insanely good to have a real impact. The most extreme are FBs, but centers, TE, and LB can also fit here. They expect him to be insanely good if they picked him at #8. I'm also guessing that Fangio understands the value of inside linebackers in his defense. The Fangio aspect is definitely a big positive, if anybody can make the most of Smith it's Vic. With WR/OL/DB/EDGE all a need right here, I get the trade down motivation but I think I'd rather they get one of the guys at the top of this round.
  9. Like I said, he has to be ridiculously good to justify the pick. Didn't say he can't be, but it's an uphill battle for a LB, especially a guy that isn't a freak. Every player picked in the top 10 needs to be ridiculously good to justify the pick. No, different positions have different impacts on the game. 10. I don't like what no did, especially how it helps GB

  12. Same height as Ray Lewis and only 10 pounds lighter on draft day. Willis, Bowman, Lavonte David, Freeman, Shazier, Briggs to name a few that are very similar size wise to Smith. Not sure why people crap on "small" LB briggs was in the 240s, this guy played in 220s, they aren't in same ballpark.
  13. Same height as Ray Lewis and only 10 pounds lighter on draft day. yeah and he went at the end of the 1st. This is 8th overall. He's got to be insanely good as a LB to justify this value. Very hard for a LB to have that kind of value, especially a small guy.
  14. A small linebacker. This guy better be ridiculously good to justify the pick.
  15. There's a lot more smoke than other gms making up a rumor.
  16. Lurker hot take: I've visited this board multiple times daily for 12 years and I can't stand the GIFs. Finally had to just turn them off.
  17. Isn't this normal for an eastern time zone game? I still manage to forget almost every day that we've got clods here who put up game threads without "CST" in the damn title. For shame, JERSEY cubs fan; after yesterday's bizarre start time, I thought tonight was 6:10 PM EST again. you dare question my thread title work? I begrudgingly list the start times as Chicago time, as has been nsb policy per Fred's declaration. There's no need to add Chicago's time zone.
