  1. Really? Because I thought that after a hot start to his return Aramis had been somewhat of a non-factor. He's only had 2 HR in August.
  2. Okay, but what do you mean by move on?
  3. Cubs did that.
  4. Yeah, in one of the obligatory "This is what the new owner should do" somebody wrote that he should hire LaRussa as team president I believe. That's not a rumor, that's a columnists just daydreaming about nonsense.
  5. If they trade Harden, does it have to be somebody who is not on a 40-man roster or somebody else who has passed through waivers? IIRC, yes. Although they can designate a 40 man player as a PTBNL and then complete the trade after the season when the waivers don't apply (that's assuming the player on the 40 man is in the minors or in the AL..if he is in the NL, that workaround cannot be used). That seems quite shady. And I forgot to add that I'd for somebody else to pick up the highly mediocre easy to predict failure that is Heilman.
  6. Bob's comment was pretty revealing, too. He said "I'd have to believe (it was on Bradley's own). Lou Piniella doesn't like to bunt in a tie ball game in the ninth inning. Why would he have Milton Bradley bunting in the first inning trailing by three runs? It makes no sense whatsoever." Now, I agree that it made no sense, but Lou would absolutely, 100% bunt in a tie game in the ninth inning with anybody except Lee and Ramirez and probably Soriano. He would, but he wouldn't like it.

  8. he's a very good manager who gets the most out of his players, and the pitching coach he'd bring with him is a magician. of course it would be a good thing for the Cubs. i don't like larussa because he manages the cards but i know that he's good at what he does, so unless he is raping dogs or killing children in his basement, come on down. hell, i don't even care if he rapes dogs or kills children. It's Larussa, so you can assume it's consensual.
  9. I have to think it was an effort to spread out the LH bats of Fukudome and Bradley when facing a righty. Theriot's August: .326/.348/.372, has not been terrible by any stretch, but it's nothing special and no reason to get him the most PA.
  10. I'm also tired of his act. But I don't want that to motivate the trade as it would probably lead to devaluing him and accepting less than what you should get.
  11. I can live with a few walks, and don't really care about his save totals, as closing is overrated. But I agree with the rest.
  12. http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/08/reports-blackhawk-patrick-kane-agrees-to-plea-deal.html The Blackhawks and NHL stayed quiet on this while it was active. Now that he's plead guilty to what appears to be a very meaningless charge what will the response be? Any discipline coming from the Hawks?
  13. poorly? I wouldn't want him back on my team or anything but he did put in a lot of effort. There was a point that it looked like he should be playing and wasn't. You didn't hear complaining from him about it. He just took his opportunities when he could and was quiet about it. I thought there were quite a few quotes about him being disappointed about the lack of opportunities.
  14. I hope not to paint with too broad of a brush here, but I wonder if the different groups are aligned by race? Regardless, if the Vikings, this stuff will be forgotten. Black players, hillbillies and jews?
  15. What's the right deal? Hell, I'd trade anyone on this team for the right deal. I don't see Zambrano's "ego" as a reason to look to shop him, which is what Wojo seems to be suggesting. He said something like "if the right deal comes along", but I think he really means actively look for a favorable scenario to trade him. I would actively look. Carlos has a big contract and a ton of innings on his arm. After 5 straight 200 inning seasons he's going to finish back to back years of sub 200 innings and have his lowest workload since his rookie year. He's a good pitcher, he's done a lot of good things for the Cubs, but I don't think he's worth the $73m they owe him the next year and believe they can do better. There are always pitching starved teams out there and the Cubs have shown year-in year-out and ability to have pitching depth. I doubt Zambrano's reliability going forward and would love to find an impact bat for him, and possibly even come away with a young arm in the deal.
  16. My post that set this whole thing off was that I said I was getting a Starlin Castro - Ronny Cedeno vibe. And because Cedeno didn't pan out I think some people took that the wrong way. At one point Cedeno was an excellent prospect, and if it were somehow possible to magically press a reset button and have another shot with him, I'd take it in a heartbeat. It wasn't meant to take anything away from Castro at all. Cedeno was never really an excellent prospect. He was a pretty crappy one throughout most of his career and then went nuts in AAA and turned heads, making people think he had something. When he was added to the 40-man people were scratching their heads because he'd done nothing by then and there was little to no danger of somebody putting him on their everyday roster for a full season. He was a noboby with some tools. It just doesn't make any sense to get a similar vibe when there are huge differences. If you get a vibe then you should get a vibe from every toolsy hispanic shortstop, because that is about all they have in common.
  17. I do not remember what I expected, but I'm guessing it was an OPS in the high 800s. Basically what he's done with more power.
  18. I'd probably trade Zambrano for the right deal, but I get the impression that Z's reputation isn't too high around the league, so I don't know what you could get.
  19. what is this "jersey's team" crap? nobody in south jersey likes the devils. South Jersey isn't really Jersey, it's a combination backwoods Georgia and Philadelphia. and north jersey is wannabe new york with a sprinkle of gary, indiana. touche
  20. So I guess this is the column gimmick du jour.
  21. Dusty having arthroscopic surgery to determine extent of injury.

  23. gee didn't see that nonsense coming a mile away. As a guy who has been surrounded by football his entire life, I completely expect him to think that way about baseball. As you say, it's not surprising in the least that he'd pull that card.
  24. Caring and hustling are 2 different things. Milton may care, but he certainly doesn't hustle or stay in the game mentally. Im not sure exactly what team you are watching because Bradley hustles his ass off. I don't know about hustling his ass off. He hustles as much as most, but not some super high level. He's had a few standing around brain farts.
