Absolutely. Ramirez is a fabulous second banana. Lee has on occasion been a star, but he's usually just an also ran in the 1B department. The really good lineups have ARod or Manny or Pujols or Utley. If you are a huge budget team, you should have one of that type of player, plus the Aramis type.

Nonsense. Lee was nearly just as bad from May 2008-April 2009. He's had a very unspectaculiar career for a 1B, with a couple stand out years. It's not just that the Cubs don't have any steady guys, it's that they don't have any consistent all star type guys. For all he's done as a Cub, Ramirez has never been the best in the league at his position. Lee has usually not been close. Without any true studs, the Cubs have never had people who can carry them and/or make up for lack of production in other spots. In 2008 they had no weak spots, but in every other year this decade they have, some of them black hole type weak spots. And without studs, those weak spots kill you.

Because if he was hitting reasonably well in Daytona instead, he'd still be ahead of Jackson because of the age difference at the same level. We'll never know, and that's why you scale it that way. But he's not hitting reasonably well at Daytona. I suspect you're mixing up Daytona and Tennessee, but if not: .291/.350/.445/.795 That's definitely reasonably well. He's not at Daytona. -

Leadoff has been THE obsession from the front office and managers for the better part of a decade. Other issues come and go, but they have constantly been obsessed with the concept of the true/ideal leadoff hitter, even though such a player does not really exist, or is in very short supply. If the Yankees can hit Jeter there, I see no reason why anybody has to have a real one.

The only thing I've heard is that Ricketts promised all profits from the team would be invested back into the team, leading me to think a drop in payroll would be unlikely. I have not heard any such thing. If the team tanks and fans disappear, perhaps. But I think they will at least maintain status quo. Haven't heard about a decrease in payroll or haven't heard about the profit going back into the team? about the payroll decrease.

Theriot has had some bad times, and some decent times as a Cub. He's having his worst year yet right now, and it shouldn't be a surprise. 30 year old middle infielders with sketchy career numbers don't last.
