  1. do you have evidence of the contrary? Just that Mali isn't really know for its extremist muslum population. And since most muslums are just peaceful people who believe in Islam and have no reason to hate, I just don't see how likely it is for an extremeist muslim to grow up in Mali and decide to exact his revenge on the Western devils by reffing football matches in hopes that he can one day work a World Cup game that the US is playing in so he can purposely botch the game in the opponent's favor. I don't think you have to be an "extremist" to hate the US, and you don't have to plot your entire life to become the ref in a match you can screw them in.
  2. Do they just mean not allowing a goal? They talked about the sheet when Slovenia was getting all those yellow cards, so I assume that's what it refers to.
  3. another freaking sac bunt? This team is so stupid.
  4. Tiger is +5 and may be in danger of missing the cut.
  5. So you're completely unaware of how many times the "summer swoon" myth has been debunked? Yes, I can see why they hate him, because he has a low batting average (the most cited stat when talking about what a disappointment he is) and he spins when he strikes out (the thing most often referenced when mocking him). Wasn't he also billed as having power and speed? Maybe I'm just making that up, but I don't think so. I didn't think the expectaions where much higher than 15 HRs a year when he signed maybe 20. Not that he has ever reached this, but I don't remember him being expected to be much of a power bat. I think he was billed has having a little more power, but some people assumed he should hit 25. As for speed, I don't remember hearing of him being a burner, but rather a good baserunner and defender.
  6. There appeared to be a clear anti-US bias, though you could only speculate about what the motivation was.
  7. I applaud moving Castro out of the 8 hole, but if he's just going to hit ahead of Theriot, what's the point?
  8. So you're completely unaware of how many times the "summer swoon" myth has been debunked? 9. Slightly higher pitch with a "this is interesting" tone?
  10. I don't understand any of what you are saying here. It will bring in more people and businesses but won't increase the prospect for commercial revenues. And why does the price of a hotel room (which you have no idea at this point) matter at all?
  11. Low batting average and he spins around when he strikes out sometimes. That and he's owed $13.5 million this year and has never OPS'd over .800. But, yeah, it's the helicopter strikeouts that people hate. He's a nice player with some value, but not that much value. So are you saying you hate him? Because I was explaining why some people hate him and you sound like you have a semi-reasonable opinion of him. He has an OPS over 800 right now by the way.
  12. Low batting average and he spins around when he strikes out sometimes.
  13. Aren't they more likely than not going to need a win regardless?
  14. ESPN just showed it again, and it looked to me like he put his hands on the other player, not anymore than all the other players were doing, but there was contact. Ok, even if he did put his hands on the Slov, then it was with no force cause it didn't change the body movement or motion of the opposing player. And if that's called, how do 3 US players get blatantly held/accosted - all within very close proximity to each other - but not seen or called? I think the answer to that is the ref was looking to call a foul on the US, so he saw a foul on the US and didn't see anything else.
  15. Judging from the picks the Cubs have made, it'll probably end up being higher than last year's $4m; maybe it'll end up being around $5m. There are a couple of guys who'll be overslot candidates (Szczur, Pinckard, Geiger, and a handful of others), but I don't see anyone in this draft who'd ask for or be worth seven figures. $5m is still a pretty low number for a franchise like the Cubs, so I wouldn't be too happy with it. I have to wonder if that's an ownership issue, or club management issue. I'm guessing the people under Ricketts actually decide how much of the overall budget goes to what area.
  16. It blew after Donovan kicked it and as the other guy kicked it, and there was contact then, so I would assume that was the call. I don't think it was a pre-Donovan kick issue.
  17. ESPN just showed it again, and it looked to me like he put his hands on the other player, not anymore than all the other players were doing, but there was contact.
  18. OK from the time Donovan kicked the ball to the time that the ball was stuck by Edu was probably what 2 seconds, maybe 3 at most? So in that time Edu had time to foul someone, then get up to full speed to kick the ball in? Unless it happened before the ball was kicked. Not saying that's not possibly the case, but if so, that is about the worst "delayed whistle" I've ever seen. But then again, this ref was about the worst I've ever seen too, so that would explain it. The whistle blew as the ball was kicked into the net.
  19. After 1982 all 3rd group games are simultaneous, to prevent shenanigans like with Germany/Austria where they played like that episode of the Simpsons with Ariaga II for 90 minutes to screw some other country. That happened? That would be awesome to watch.
  20. Where is he in that scrum?
  21. 37 Slovenia v England C 10:00 AM 38 United States v Algeria C 10:00 AM They play at the same time, that should be interesting. Looks like a lot of the last games are simultaneous.
  22. Very few, if any, teams have a legit leadoff hitter.
  23. some guy with two first names is replacing the english keeper.
  24. The difference is they are applauding a good movie. Players are applauding people for applauding them, not to mention, the way in which they do it is what's most silly. Holding your hands over your head halfassedly putting them together, walking around a little more and doing it again. I think it looks silly. I actually think clapping at the end of a movie is pretty lame, myself. I don't know if I've ever actually seen it, but I must have. It's worse when they clap after a plane lands.
