  1. Could be all the talk from Crane et al. is foreshadowing the big announcement. Who knows? If they manage both Swanson and Correa I promise to hold my words about the Ricketts for a year, even about politics. They aren’t getting Swanson and Correa
  2. How does another team’s acquisition of a player make the position less of a priority?
  3. When Mayfield was released I thought he’d be a fun backup option for next year. Now he’s winning games with the Rams he might be their starter.
  4. Dudes being guys
  5. Tage Thompson has 5 goals tonight with 4m to go in the 2nd.
  6. I think the packers game thread has run its course viewtopic.php?f=44&t=4641&start=100
  7. The best thing about cubs baseball is you don’t have to watch.
  8. If this was a move big market teams should make then options 2 and 4 wouldn’t be on the table. But they are, because what this team needs to do is acquire a crap ton of production, not a guy with a long history of no production.
  9. If you’re never as bad as you are when your pitchers are injured you’ll never be bad.
  10. “With Cody and his defense and the talent that he has,” general manager Carter Hawkins said, “he’s the type of guy that could potentially be a good fit for us.” High praise indeed
  11. That was easy
  12. Who did you want to play centerfield next year? A good baseball player
  13. :beg: o This is the same nonsense theory that gives poles the benefit of doubt for doing nothing last year. The cubs suck for being so bad that a bad player signing a one year deal is considered by some to be good. “Better than it was” isn’t good.
  14. And fine puts you in 3rd place If we look up in March and that's the best signing we've made, then I will agree with you. this team could easily sign an obviously better play than Bellinger and still struggle to secure 3rd place status.
  15. Does Arson Judge only adjudicate arson cases or does he burn every defendant ?
  16. And fine puts you in 3rd place
  17. He was "worth" 13.5 in like 140g last year despite being abysmal at the plate (standard disclaimer about using $/WAR on low WAR guys but yeah it's not a lot of money) It’s a fair amount of money for a very little amount of ability.
  18. Cubs needed another Heyward like Heyward needed another hole in his swing
  19. Sweet, an awful player!
  20. Is Velus really a lock? I would hope they acquire enough assets to at least make it possible he’s off the team by the time summer comes along. He’s done nothing. He’s older and there cannot be much of a cap hit by cutting him. Yeah, he's a lock. He's not a lock to be in the offensive rotation as more than a gimmick player, but he will be on this team. He's been playing special teams on coverage and returns. He has a pair of 40+ yard returns (actually leads NFL in average, but small sample size), so he has some value even if he's never an actual NFL WR. I’ll take your word for it, but that’s disappointing. Keeping Velus and losing Montgomery while adding some 2nd day slot receiver does little to add to the skill position talent this offseason. You’re going into 2023 begging Fields to make an inferior group productive.

  22. So worse than last year? Yeah, I don't see 70-75 wins as being likely even if we did essentially nothing. Yeah, they’d come up short
  23. The play calling was just so drastically different in the 2nd half. They were driving at will in the 1st half, then suddenly in the 2nd half they change things and can't move the ball. If that's not intentional, then I'm very concerned about our OC's ability to help this become a winning team. I am concerned as well. Thankfully like Poles, Eberflus and Fields he has an offseason to figure it out.
  24. He doesn’t have to win the NC to make a lot of money. Look at the contract Mel Tucker got for doing a lot less. The number of coaches that have cashed in since show Harbaugh can probably name his price the day after getting trounced by TCU.
  25. People keep joking about this, I assume. But there’s no way a young OC is purposefully tanking his offense. The guy stands to gain a lot by winning with nothing but Fields. The only benefit to losing is the maybe 55% chance they draft a better offensive difference maker to give him more toys. But they may take a defensive player at the top. And the front office already spent an entire draft failing to select an impact player. Why would Getsy play for that long game? It’s much more likely this is in his nature. He started the season with a terrible system and he’s spent most of the time getting bailed out by Fields legs.
