Yeah, he hasn't had to pitch from the stretch since the third inning, it's not overly cold or hot, and he's just now hitting 100 pitches. Dempster is old, it's cold and it's Opening Day. If you don't pull him at 92, he's probably throwing 110 or so, and there's just no need for that. The whole bullpen is fresh and we've got an off day tomorrow. It's not egregious, it just seems a poor choice to me. On June 1st it isn't egregious, on opening day it is. It's unnecessary macho BS, just like the "if you make a mistake make it an aggressive mistake" nonsense.

It hasn't worked. They did nothing until the inning they scored. And in that inning Baker took several pitches and drew a walk to move Stewart into scoring position. And if Dempster didn't squirm out of a couple jams the Cubs would be down 5-1 and by no means would anybody said what they have done "has worked".

I think Soriano ran on his own. Maybe, maybe not. But Dale wants aggressive and has made that plainly obvious. With 1 out the theory is you get to third for a sacrifice opportunity.

Dempster's had 4-5 pitches called balls where pitch f/x disagreed. The system they are showing on the TV appears to be agreeing with the ump. The TV pitch plotters have a habit of not disagreeing with the call. I'm not sure how accurate we can assume the pitch f/x people are either. Either way, they haven't looked egregious.

I think he's just not giving the close ones to the pitcher. And for entertainment purposes alone I hope umps don't call close balls strikes just for the fun of it.
