  1. is a 2 year deal really blocking colvin? Not necessarily, but those are the feelings of the Cubs people I've talked with. They also don't see Crisp as being that much of an upgrade. well...at least they have their heads screwed on correctly with that assessment The whole point of a Crisp trade would be to make Pie available to upgrade at SS or at SP, but evidently, the Cubs aren't into that. first...who are they going to upgrade for at SS right now? would you use pie in a deal for burnett?
  2. I was wondering the same thing. As was I. The Cubs had talked in general terms of what would be available. The other teams knew which players were (and are) available, but talks, as I know of them, never got down to concrete offers that both teams could accept or refuse. In other words, MacPhail knows, the Cubs are probably willing to trade Marshall, Gallagher, Murton (the Cubs are trying hard to trade him) and maybe Cedeno. MacPhail no doubt said, "That's nice, but we'd like to see something with Pie, Colvin and/or Hill." That's how these things work. So the Cubs had and have enough (as they see it) on the table, as Crane put it, for other teams to choose from. Bruce, let me ask you something. If you had to guess right now, would you say we make a "significant" move before opening day? By significant I mean not something like Marlon Byrd or any other platoon partner outfielder. I'm thinking more along the lines of a Roberts type player, or possible a starting pitcher. It's just weird that Hendry has continued to say that he wants to make a couple more moves and that he's not done yet, but here we are well into February and nothing has happened since the Lieber signing. It's tough to make a guess like that because, as I've said over and over, it takes two sides to make a deal. Hendry hasn't made a signficant deal of late because he is only half the equation with other teams. It's easy to say, "Make a deal," but you need a willing partner. so, you're saying there is a chance! :yahoo:

  4. and the beat goes on... why don't we offer a package of gallagher, veal, patterson, and colvin...that should get it done eh? i know andy likes these 5 for 1's...but...christ...this is roberts we are talking about here...
  5. there is no way that the deal will include both pie and gallagher... there will be riots!!! :starwars:
  6. i am going to miss gallagher...i just don't have the same faith in marshall blah
  7. True, but even after 172 pages we still don't have a real clue what the deal would be. i know right, but for some reason it never occurred to me... theriot is bad enough starting...good lord...if cedeno isn't there...just think of the trash that will be filling in...
  8. IIRC, Hendry mentioned, on CTL, that he wanted another utility player. Perhaps, that player will be the backup. who might he be talking about?
  9. it doesn't seem to be bothering some folks around here, but i really feel that giving up cedeno could be a big big mistake...we don't have anyone to plug into short if theriot is injured... unless there is someone i do not know about
  10. could you imagine the sox with lohse? :flame:
  11. if that is really the trade...what happens if theriot gets injured?
  12. if we give up both marshall and gallagher then i have to believe that payton is coming our way don't get me wrong i really want roberts because derosa in a super utility will pay dividends for this team, but i think giving up both of our insurance pitchers could really come back to bite us in the arse terribly hard
  13. i got it! crap! thanks a lot for being quicker juicebox! :beee:
  14. i don't think the orioles would announce anything to steal the spotlight away from the baseball
  15. man this whole rumor/trade/bollocks is simply sad ](*,)
  16. i don't know if this has been posted before, but i found it interesting and somewhat promising... "He's got a wealth of athletic ability," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said of Cedeno. "He's got a good arm, he's strong, he can run. It's about time he put it together and fulfilled his promise. I like Cedeno, I really do. I want to see him get serious about baseball." from cubs.com please kick theriot's behind in ST and earn the starting job cedeno!
  17. Pretty good seats, I might add. Heck, for that, I'd probably let Big Papi spit his sunflower seeds into my hands. =D>
  18. i was home alone with just the dogs...man...i jumped incredibly high in the air and proceeded to run into the kitchen then back to the living room then back and forth and back and forth and back and forth all the while screaming so loudly that my throat was hoarse for the rest of the day!!! i actually got tears in my eyes just listening to those calls again... shhh..don't make fun
  19. Eh, I don't think Hendry will like his lack of flexibility when it comes to moving around the field. He can play 1st base and the corner outfield positions, I doubt anything beyond that. It'd be nice to have another bat, but he'd basically be a second Daryle Ward. Mike Sweeney would be worse than Ward in the corner OF. i didn't think such a thing was possible :-k
  20. that has to be what he meant because he is favor of moving soriano down in the order
  21. I prefer a Soriano lead off home run and a single by Roberts to start off the game much more than I like Roberts getting a single and Theriot grounding into a double play. oh i see where he was going with that now... yeah...i like the first option as well... theriot is a blackhole...he needs to be nowhere near the top of the order
