  1. wow...lieber looked really good peace out marquis!
  2. You're giving up young pitching (have you seen the price of pitching lately) for a slight upgrade at 2B. Then on top of that you're trading an OF that could start on your team. More then a few Cub fans have given Hendry flack in the past for selling low and trading Murton in a Roberts deal would be even worse then selling low. I don't care if Marquis is traded because of his contract, but why take back Payton? He's awful and you have a better player (Murton) to come of the bench. I'd be fine w/ a 2 for 1 for Roberts. Maybe even a 3 for 1, but 1 of those players will be an A baller. when aramis needs a spell day we have derosa...same for roberts...maybe even theriot...and even dlee... i mean...having derosa fill the super sub role will play HUGE dividends on this ballclub this year... if we don't acquire roberts...then will will have cedeno to spell aramis and theriot and then fontenot... i really see it as more than a marginal upgrade when all of the factors are placed side by side
  3. i love it personally get it done already That would be a GREAT deal for the O's. are you serious...i know everyone wants cedeno to succeed...i do too...but really i doubt he is going to win a job out of the gate over theriot and we still don't know if he is going to succeed as a solid major league starter... so really, we are giving up two starters...gallagher and murton (who doesn't have a spot on this team) and then two reserve middle infielders... that is not a bad deal at all really, you have to give to get man
  4. i really think roberts solidifies this lineup for opening day... nothing is going to be done about theriot right now, so we might as well just live with it... plus...the added speculation of marquis going in the trade or at least in another trade is making me jump for joy
  5. OMG ROBERTS MIGHT BE A CUB!!!? WOW I AM GOING ONLINE TO ORDER MY JERSEY SHIRT NOW pheessh... i got my jersey 3 months ago :beee:
  6. anyone ever seen death at a funeral? http://i.thisislondon.co.uk/i/pix/2007/03/billie647349c_243x211.jpg kris marshall...i think it is sean's brother
  7. i don't want to go to work...fukudome better be in the lineup tomorrow :(
  8. wow, just got home from work not at all what i was expecting to see things definitely just got interesting and once again...super kudos for lou...
  9. oh my lord! why does no one talk about piggy for that second lefty spot? does he have some kind of disease or something?
  10. being fair to jason...he definitely had the most difficult hitters to face out of all the starters thus far...
  11. i thought the angels had an error in the first?
  12. i really have a good feeling that marquis is going to earn his contract this year
  13. bummer...i was hoping to see fukudome...hopefully on monday
  14. I think it is a little much as well. I do, too. I think Gallagher is going to be good. Cedeno, who knows. It really depends on who the other players in the trade are. If the Cubs are giving up somebody like Veal, then definitely not. If its Patterson or Fontenot, cool. If they give up Murton, it would be nice to get Sherrill coming back. If the Cubs do go through with this, it is definitely a trade to win now which always means giving up more long term value. I'm okay with that so long as it isn't done too often. The question remains, however, will Roberts make enough of an impact to justify the deal. He might. It all depends on the difference having a more balanced line-up will make. Does getting better match-ups against relievers noticeably impact a team's ability to win games? Will having three lefties in the line-up mean that the Cubs will get deeper into their opponents bullpen and face less talented pitchers late in the game? Will Soriano actually be moved to the middle of the order and if he does, will that result in more runs being scored? How big of an impact will DeRosa coming off the bench and filling in for injured players really make? We've seen the stat lines of DeRosa and Roberts being compared a lot in this thread, and they aren't that different, but it is these other more subtle advantages that will make this deal worth doing or not. I think Soriano leads off regardless. No Roberts means Theriot hits 2nd, Fukudome 3rd. Roberts means Roberts hits 2nd, Fukudome 5th, Theriot 8th. This is why I want Roberts. If there was any chance they'd bat DeRosa 2nd, I wouldn't. I know batting order "doesn't really matter", but I just want the top of the Cubs lineup to not suck for once. I definitely want Theriot nowhere near the top of the order either, but him and Pie in some combination of 7/8 is going to make for a brutal last 3rd of the lineup. If Roberts ends up coming, I'd probably do this- Soriano Roberts Lee Ramirez Fukudome Soto Pie Theriot The top 6 looks really good, but the last 3 look brutal. I think the lineup will wind up that way, if Roberts is a Cub. But I'd also like to see: Roberts Lee Fukudome Ramirez Soriano Soto Pie Theriot And we'll probably see Lou experiment with: Roberts Theriot Lee Ramirez Fukudome Soriano Soto Pie I'd pay good money to see: Roberts Fukudome Lee Ramirez Soriano DeRosa Soto Pie that would never happen though i'd pay good money to see this... Roberts Lee Fukudome Aramis Soriano Soto Lowrie Pie
  15. this is so true, they only televise a handful of games anyway
