  1. boys will be boys
  2. i am in too...if there is still a spot...
  3. My bad Mr. YellowBird i didn't see the other one :hello:
  4. maybe its true, we don't like asians either i am ashamed to be a cubs fan
  5. are you being serious?
  6. alright, who voted for the rays! actually, i don't hate the team anymore...but i still don't want to see them win the world series this year...
  7. I disagree with how you characterize them. Manny Ramirez or Albert Pujols are much more of a SABR guys dream, if there is one. To be fair, there are other players who are more of a "tools guy's dream" than Soriano. Yes, especially now that he doesn't run all that well. don't forget his exceptional fielding skills
  8. Strikeouts are overrated. Dunn is a vastly superior player to Soriano. Not the same player outside of the horrendous strike out rate. There's not much difference IMO. Soriano is Dunn of the tools first guys. Dunn is the Soriano of the SABR guys. Both are really flawed players. i do know this much...when fans of other teams watched the reds or the diamondbacks...they cringed when dunn came up to bat... i think that cringe was always a bit nastier than soriano for us dunn in our lineup this year may have really been a huge difference maker for us I don't have the "Cringe Factor" standings in front of me, but I don't know about that. oh jeez, just because i didn't throw out a stat man...sometimes this board is tedious you mean to tell me you would rather pitch to dunn instead of soriano...i would walk dunn to get to soriano personally I'm not ripping you for not using stats, I'm just saying that I'm sure fans of he Reds and Dbacks, having been exposed to the flaws of Dunn, and not exposed to those of Soriano would probably think differently. You have a different perspective on a player once you see him play games for your team. I know fans of the Reds despised him, and even ones that could look beyond his BA and strikeout totals didn't exactly proclaim him a god like people on this board do. i totally understand because i really am not a huge fan of Dunn...but...damn...he is a perfect fit for the cubs and wrigley...he would probably crack a homer every game at home...i think that is part of the reason he is so appealing
  9. Why would Andy insist on a 34-year old player in the last year of his contract for his team that is several years away from contending? I think the offense needs to be tweaked. They were #1 this year, but #8 the year before with a very similar cast. I have a feeling they will fall back toward the middle of the pack if they stay with what they got. he might want him because a. he is cheap for his production rate b. there is a good chance he has another good year and nets him a couple of picks MacPhail might want a package centered around Theriot/Cedeno, but not DeRosa. this is true, and ultimately good for us considering the supersub ability of dero but since we have fontenot, i wouldn't hesitate to throw dero in the package if he is a needed chip

  13. 20 HR, 100 RBI for that "older then dirt" player. He's also two years younger then Manny. He's worth a two year deal. EDIT: 371 OBP as well. The guy can still play and play at a high level. Worth a two-year deal? Perhaps. Willing to sign a two-year deal? Doubtful. He's going to want at least three, possibly four. While he does do a good job of getting on base, his walk rate is also starting to decline. I might go three years if I had to. Lets face it, our offense is the problem and has been in the postseason the last two years. We have been worked over by dominant, right handed pitching. Imagine this: Roberts in a trade for Derosa. Fukudome Soriano A-Ram Abreau Lee Soto Cendeno or Theriot You're not going to get Roberts in a deal for DeRosa. Just isn't going to happen. And considering the Cubs had the best offense in the league, I find it odd to say the offense is the problem. Yes, they struggled in the postseason. But you don't say the offense is a problem based on a three-game sample. The pitching and defense played a large role in the Cubs playoff failures this season, so it's not fair to lay it all on the offense. I also find it odd that you want to trade DeRosa, considering your emphasis on postseason offense, when he did a good job with the bat this postseason. Even though it's a small sample size, his career postseason numbers are very good. I like DeRo, I just think we need to deal for Roberts and MacPhail will absolutely want DeRo in any package we give the O's. Yes, our pitching and D were not very good. However, our offense has never allowed our pitching and D to relax in the last two postseasons. We need to change the offense. as much as i dig dero, i agree if we could swing brob, it would be a welcome addition that comes with the extra super awesome element of soriano finally leaving the leadoff spot
  14. I am going for the Phillies. I think it is because I grew up in Clearwater. I hate ever other philly team, but I have always had a soft spot for the phillies.
  15. i wish fonzie had said, "2008 is over, 2009 I will be in a different uniform." bummer HE'S BACK!
  16. just posting to see if i can see the little black circle myself :-k
  17. last year they fought each other and they fought the padres. it didn't work any better. yeah, but it was fun!
  18. except for a few world series wins, i suppose i can see where you are coming from with that one we don't need to overpay for wood, let him and the canadian become the bad-contract problem of somebody else
  19. i would like to see the cubs get into some fights next year personally become the team that no one likes :good:
  20. it isn't necessarily that unfortunate considering the current position of the team 7th Guzman 8th Shark 9th Marmol not freaking bad at all...just don't over pay for wood and i think dempster goes without saying and what about wells...he looked pretty good, but he is supposed to be a starter right...what is up with the guy, don't really know too much...
  21. i am going to officially be back into hockey this year...it took awhile...when they went on strike or whatever after the lightning won the cup...boy i was furious... i think i am over that now go blackhawks!
  22. some notables include Mark Teixeira Carlos Delgado Rafael Furcal Orlando Cabrera Edgar Renteria Joe Crede Garrett Anderson (club option) Pat Burrell Carl Crawford (club option) Adan Dunn Manny Ramirez Rocco Baldelli Bobby Abreu Casey Blake Brian Giles (club option) Ken Griffey (club option) Vladimir Guerrero (club option) Raul Ibanez I'd love Furcal, Manny, Dunn, Abreu, Crawford or Vlad out of those crawford is cross-eyed
