The door certainly would be wide open for the Cubs if they were having a "normal" offseason. I guess we'll have to wait and see what other moves are made by the Cubs and other teams before really knowing what to expect for 2019.

Maybe they cleared money so that they could trade for Heyward. :lol: :lol: :lol: I really need to look into getting a dislike button. It's a joke. Chill out.

Jeff Passan is saying that this move alone won't clear up enough space to sign Harper and stay under the tax, but it certainly makes it a lot easier to swing a trade to clear the remaining. Hypothetically they could use this space on multiple other free agents rather than just Harper but its hard for me to see a team making a move like this if they weren't trying to get a generational talent. Edit: Also their OFs are something like Enrique Hernandez, Joc Pederson, Andrew Toles and Chris Taylor. They will be almost assuredly acquiring another OF. Maybe they cleared money so that they could trade for Heyward. :lol: :lol: :lol:

The newspaper used to be pretty conservative, but it has moved slightly to the left. It used to be that their political endorsements would be basically very Republican unless a Democrat was running unopposed. :lol:

Kinda glad we avoided him. His contract wasn’t bad or anything but would hope we are aiming higher. Robertson, Allen, Ottavino, Britton (if medicals check out and they feel good), etc. Do we have the money to aim higher?

I’m in for this. Or something like Schwarber and Q for an Indians pitcher or those two for Jon Gray How about Scwarber and Quintana for Camargo and Teheran. Gives the Braves the slugger they want, gives us another versatile player. Opens up possibility of trading Zobrist, Russell, and/or Happ and makes room for signing Harper. -

Apparently you didn't hear that Schwarber isn't on the trade block, so we'll have to lure a team to take on Heywards contract by using Chatwood, Russell, Duensing, Kintzler, Bote, or Caratini. :lol: It's funny how you disappeared when the cubs were on top of the world and now you're back with a vengeance at the slightest hint of trouble. I never disappeared as you keep claiming, but what is this trouble that you talk about? I see posters claiming we're a 95 win team without making any moves. We just need Harper to put the cherry on top of the cupcake.

I have a hunch the overwhelming majority of Cub fans would love to trade Quintana for Jimenez & Cease. As a trade chip I'd take him back, sure. As a big league player, he is a DH or a bad corner outfielder. Sounds like my description of Schwarber two years ago.

That's true, but hearing and seeing Bryce Harper and Eloy Jimenez all over the daily media would be frustrating, especially if the Cubs struggle.

if you wanna do wishful thinking, just pretend that we have the budget for harper and he wants to be here, but we're trying to move other pieces so we can sign both he and machado. harper wants to be here strongly enough that he's delaying his signing and the terms of his contract until we're further along with machado. As long as we're doing wishful thinking, don't forget the trade of Chatwood, Duensing, Russell, Kintzler and Heyward for Trout so that we can clear some contracts.

Theo quote from today's Tribune: "And there will be winters when we do acquire a big name, and there will be winters that we don't acquire a big name. I don't know what category this winter will fall into yet, but there's a chance there's going to be a winter where we don't acquire a big name from outside the organization. That does not represent failure." That sounds to me like he's preparing us for some unpleasant news.
