Oh wow I was on a Cubs board and Reds argument. I'll add in my two cents. -Bruce, if he pans out, projects to be better than. He hit 21 homers in 413 ABs as a 21 year old. His body is nowhere near it's peak, and he projects to hit just as many HRs as Dunn has. There is a slight chance that Bruce turns into the absolute pud that Dunn did (and I am a Dunn fan, but that's just a fact), but assuming he doesn't Bruce is going to be a plus outfielder. Dunn is a lifetime .247 hitter, Bruce will be up around .280 which will allow him to drive in more runs than Dunn did. I understand everyone's opinon on counting stats, but if Bruce hits .280 and hits 35+ homers his walk totals will go up. Add in his plus defense and Bruce will be better than Dunn. -Harang won't get any better? We'll which Harang are you talking about? Does anybody honestly think he will go 6-17 with a 4.78 ERA again next year when he posted 4 consecutive sub 4 ERA seasons? Not going to happen. Harang will be back to pre 2008 Harang this year, which means he will be improved. As for the rest of the pitching staff, Volquez last year will be as good as he'll ever be and he'll probably regress a little this year. With that being said, he'll still be sub 4 ERA with 200 innings and 200 Ks. Cueto should take a step forward this year in his progression. He'll end up in a year or two being just as good, if not better, than Volquez. There's always the off chance that Bailey pulls his head out of his ass, but I don't expect it. -I will agree with those who don't see Votto improving that much, but I also don't see anything wrong with that. .300/.368/.506 isn't anything to bat an eye at. I expect to see his average go down a bit and his power go up. Phillips and (especially) Encarnacion are two guys who have the ability to bust out at any minute. I like Encarnacion's offense more than Phillips. I'm honestly not sure what to expect out of Chris Dickerson. He reminds me of Phillips in that he has a lot of talent, but not real sure what to do with it. One thing is for sure though, you don't have to worry about the Reds this year. Not until they solve their LF and SS problem.
