  1. For those comparing Sappelt to Fuld or Campana, just no. He's not a very good fielder and he's a downright bad baserunner. He can hit though, especially after he retooled his swing. The fact that he can't really play CF means he probably has a 4th OF ceiling.
  2. The Latos trade made sense because they received a really good pitcher who's affordable and under control for 4 years. That's huge on our budget. Not to mention the fact both Alonso and Grandal had nowhere to play. If any of Hamilton, Yorman, or Corcino are involved I'll be shocked. As for Wood, he's not a flamethrower but he'll get up to 94. He's not Dave Williams. He'll probably be your 2nd best SP next year. I can live with this as long as the prospects are throw ins, like many people have said on here the prospects will make or break the trade.

  4. Much more promising than some of the other prospects listed. Works in the low 90's and tops out at 97mph. Seems to have started to figure things out. The other two Coddington and Ward make absolutely no sense. The other name he gave me was Yorman Rodriguez Corcino and Rodriguez. Yes please. You're kidding right? I think you guys need to come way down off your prospects expectations. I wouldn't trade Wood for Marshall straight up as it is, so if it's anything but low level filler guys I'll be surprised. Coddington/Webb makes much more sense.
  5. One team is 5 games ahead of the other. If the season ended today, Votto is the MVP. Sadly for me, there's another month to play.
  6. Phillips does the same thing every game. He taps the umpire and the catcher. When you consider how much Phillips has played against the Cardinals, it's nothing new to Molina. Molina was being a hardass, simple as that. I really wish Rolen would have beat the piss out of Carpenter. Love Phillips for what he said. Hate the outcome of the first two games, but I love Phillips.
  7. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/ Sounds like he has the same feeling as pretty much every non-Cubs fan in America.
  8. From John Fay's twitter: Votto on Cubs comment: I was joking. I knew it a Chicago reporter. I was laughing when I said it. I respect a the Cubs players. #reds
  9. Btw I understand if you guys are calling Votto a douche or whatever for his comments, if somebody said this about the Reds I'm sure I'd have the same reaction. Calling him a douche or whatever because of his past doesn't make a lot of sense to me, though. Yeah, he had emotional issues because of his dad's death last year, but I'm not sure how that makes him a bad guy or a douche. Never heard anything bad said about Votto as a person.
  10. That's the first thing I thought of when I heard the comments. Love ya, Mad Dog. The Bartman [expletive] is media created, The only people that have talked about the guy since 2004 are on ESPN. Votto is an effed-up guy. Living in Cincy, I've heard plenty of stuff about him and he's a mess. Not to mention a grade-A douche. Curious what Reds44 has to say about this. Hopefully not "This really shows how much intensity Votto has" like every other Reds fan has been saying. This really has nothing to do with the Cubs, this has to do with an immature, classless ballplayer taking a cheap shot against a player who is obviously respected and well-liked by his peers. When I read it, my first reaction wasn't "YEAH JOEY!!!!" that's for sure. I'm not sure what the point of it was. It rubbed me the wrong way, and normally I love when guys run their mouth. This was just stupid though, especially when you consider it was the All-Star game. It's not like I'm upset he said it or anything, it just seems stupid and petty to me, though. It would have been different if he said it after we played you guys, at least it would have made more sense. Like I said, this was just petty though.
  11. A. screw duke B. good luck this weekend C. Reds lineup: Stubbs 8 Cabrera 6 Votto 3 Phillips 4 Rolen 5 Bruce 9 Gomes 7 Hernandez 2 Bailey 1
  12. Yeah, I read somewhere that a scout had him clocked at 102. If you really want me to try to find it I will. He's been impressive overall in camp, today was more of an extension of that. We'll seee what happens though. Like you said, all this really doesn't mean a whole lot.
  13. Those names just strike fear in the heart of opponents.
  14. Chapman isn't going to be up until at least May 15th because of the wording in his contract. With that being said, have fun hitting a lefty who, reportedly, hit 102 on the gun today. Also, Chapman's secondary stuff has been surprisingly good, reportedly. He has a really good slider and a change up that come in somewhere in the low 80's. Anybody who says he'll start in AA is on crack. He'll be in AAA.
  15. Huge win for the program. I know Penn St is 0-6 in the conference now, but they are a solid team. I really liked what I saw tonight. Took care of the ball for the most part. Overcame foul trouble by a couple of starters. Verdell Jones III is turning into the next Talor Battle. Next year, I can see him being a top 5 scorer in the league. Watford is going to continue to get better. 9-9, 3-3 in conference. If not for 2 blown double digit leads (Illinois, Boston U), a game in which they didn't play until they got down 25 (Loyola), and some clutch FT shooting down the stretch (George Mason), this team could have a pretty decent record. Honestly, I expected them to be about 11-7 at this point, with 1 win in Puerto Rico and the Loyola win. Hopefully, they can hold serve at home and beat a lesser Iowa team. If so, maybe that will give them some momentum to get an upset or two over the tough stretch coming up. This is the best post ever. I mean this makes the "wins are a bad stat" post look tame.
  16. I bet $325,000,000 that Sam Fuld wouldn't post a .791 OPS next year. He wouldn't post a .391 OBP either.
  17. Dude has a .391 OBP and he started off like hell. He may not have provided the power you want, but he has been a productive player. It would be a typical Cubs move to diminish his value and then trade him while getting very little in return.
  18. Cubs have a chance to end the Reds season this weekend, it's haning on by a thread right now. Sources say myself and flames will be in the blechers on Sunday.
