I don't pretend to be an expert, but what the soapdrop do the Cubs need with another LH/RT 'bench' OF, let alone for RF?? Assuming they make a deal for any of those guys, and don't lose anyone on the active roster in the process, this would be the "everyday" bench roster; C - Blanco (RH) 2B/SS - Fontenot (LH) / Cedeno (RH) / DeRosa (RH) CF - Edmonds (LH) / Johnson (RH) RF - Giles-DeJesus-Ibanez (LHs) / DeRosa (RH) / Ward (LH)

If Ibanez and Gonzalez are the best Jim can - or will - do to make a "just before the" deadline deal... just don't Jim. Just do what you've told the major sports and news services, "this team is fine the way it is". -
I agree that Manny is a, well, whatever he is, but even if the Red Sox DO finally ship him out, Manny's not going to stop Being Manny. He'll just become a clubhouse cancer with the new team. Not right away maybe, but it'll develop soon enough.

As unworthy as he has been, I'll stick with Ward thanks. Acquiring Gonzalez would be one of those "making a deal just to make a deal" deals. Let's platoon a LH/RT RF with another LH/RT RF! :doh:

Exactly, I'd have been ok with a split in this series... losing to CC and Sheets, but now that we've won those... it almost feels like anything less than a 3-1 series win will almost be a let down.

Shouldn't put the cart before the horse, but of all the pitching matchups, tonight's game was the worst one (as far as MIL #1B vs CHC #4), and saved for that damned 6th, Lilly was outstanding tonight.

CUBS WIN!!! ------------------------------------ CHC 62-44 --- MIL 60-46 2.0 Can't say enough about how huge winning this game could mean... could have turned a 1-3 or 2-2 series into a 3-1/4-0 series in our favor. Still have to get through Sheets, but historically, the Cubs have done him some damage. And really (besides the fact that Harden has nothing to show his outings [no Ws]), we have our 3 best SPs coming up after tonight; Z, Demps, Harden.
