  1. I'm pretty sure the grand slam will define this one (if they lose). I was being facetious, but I'm sure you already realized that.
  2. Howry in. The chances of only losing 6-4 today just went out the window.
  3. That will define this loss. Thx for the topper, DeRo!
  4. Any bets we won't touch Lannan now?? And the Nats BP will look us like little girls?
  5. Losing to the worst team in the NL, at home. Whooo!! :banghead:
  6. I would like to hit 81(+) in one column before 50 in the other, Cubs. (aka, sweep these turds!) Plz n thx!
  7. Thanks to the Twins' 12 inning win over @LAA, we own a .5 game advantage on the Angels and Rays for best record. Also, with the win, the Twinkies move to a .5 game back of the Sox in the AL Central.
  8. Lots of K3 takes tonight. WTG Cubs offense... that's how you do it, leave the wood on your shoulder!! :clapping:
  9. Just listening, but Pat said that Hannigan (Reds C) argued that B3 to ARam was a K, and McClelland was giving it back to him.
  10. And Aramis Ks on B4. Cmon JimmyBallgame and DeRo!! :beg:
  11. Cmon Cubs, use this!! McClelland not happy with Reds catcher, so might give us calls on close pitches!
  12. Won't mean anything for other than ego (since Uggla gave the AL HFA for the WS), but if we can make the comeback tonight, we'll be in sole ownership of the best record in baseball. LAA beat the Rays. Won't mean anything if lose, but sounds like DeRo has really been flashing the leather tonight. Cmon bats, use that mo' and do this!!
  13. I know teams are bound to lose some games they shouldn't from time to time... but we really should have went 6-0 this week. I mean for frack's sake, StL went into Cincy last week and took 2 of 3 if not swept these soapdroppers!
  14. Weathers threw what, 6 pitches that inning?! :rotfl:
  15. This was brought up last week sometime, but the Cubs' 7/8 hitters are the best in the NL. If the Cubs either win it or force it to extras, it'll happen in the 9th (or at least I'd bet on it that way). But since we're not gonna get that far, nevermind. 1 pitch groundout for Sori. Nice show of patience, Alf. [-(
  16. His experience as a good hitter before coming over here, combined with living on the other half of the world from where he's been his whole life, are not excuses for sucking, and his batting has been ridiculous bad, but I also think the aforementioned excuses are decent reasons to give the guy a little more leeway before dropping the Jacque treatment on him. Also, I don't think being trendy is so much the reason he's getting a free pass as the Cubs having the best record in baseball is. I don't know. I went to the Marlins series this weekend and everytime he came up to bat he got loud "FUKUDOME" chants from most of the Cubs fans in the place. And of course there those stupid headbands all over the place. If it weren't for his defense and hustle out in the field, I'd bet Fukudome would be hearing more boos or less "worship" for his offensive abilities since whenever his plate problems started.
  17. This Cubs team is one big offensive inning and nothing else. If they can't put up a crooked number in any one inning in a game, hello 0-1-2 runs in said game. Not a large sample size, but Sunday @ Florida; 1 run until the 7th, score 8 and win 9-2. Last night vs Reds, 1-0 for a large part of the game and score 4 at the end to win 5-0. And there's lots more of those games to reference if spent the time to research.
  18. Kosuke bounced out to short? No!
  19. I know the stats won't back me up here, but I can honestly say that when I see Fukudome come up in key situations, I groan loudly. He did have that big 2-run single last night, but in all honesty, if the pitcher showed any kind of defense, that was an out if not a DP.
  20. Still got 9 outs left, but this seems one of those nights where the offense isn't really doing much. But then again, it was 1-0 in the 8th inning last night and we won 5-0, so who knows.
  21. Pat just said no activity in pen. Cmon Lou. Ted's up to 97 on the pc.
  22. Eh, get the bullpen going plz? (listening on radio, stupid WCIU broadcasts)
  23. The Cardinals are 10 games behind us in the loss column. We can finish a game below 500 the rest of the way(18-19) and the Cards need to go 25-10 just to tie us. If we close at our current pace(we'll round down and say 22-15) the Cardinals need to go 29-6 just to tie. The Cardinals have as much chance at catching us as the Astros do. Umm, I was talking Wild Card. I KNOW that St Louis has very little chance - if any - of catching us [unless we inexplicably choke even harder than the 2007 Mets], but between MIL/StL/PHI/FLA (& AZ if LAD wins West), I'd rather see StL come out of that pack as the 4th playoff team. And even so, if its during the last series vs them (9/19-21 @ Wrigley) and it means the Cards winning the WC spot or us clinching the division & HFA sooner, I'll root for the Cubs first hands down. You did say that you didn't want to root for the Cardinals "at the expense of the Cubs' own division & HFA clinching aspirations." And then pointed out that we have 6 games left with them. That would seem to imply to the reader that you think the Cards do have a chance of catching us for the division. That's what SSR was replying to... Well, while I get the taste of shoe out of my mouth, I'll explain that what I said and what I meant to say were not one and the same.

  25. That could turn into a double-edged sword. I wouldn't mind seeing the Cardinals win the WC either (easier route for Cubs to the WS if play them in the NLCS), but I'm not gonna root for it at the expense of the Cubs' own division & HFA-clinching aspirations. We still got 6 games coming up vs them in Sept.
