  1. Radio broadcast saying they haven't hit anything hard yet. How is Marmol actually looking?
  2. Yeah, he may actually be the RICH man's David Eckstein. What I am glad to see is that his OPS has been pretty consistent month to month this year. More importantly, he has sported a sparkling OBP all year. Props to Truffle on this call.
  3. Not to get too granular about this (and not to be a pain in the arse), but wont the avg velocity be heavily impacted by pitch mix? Has that been pretty constant? Average fastball velocity

  5. Any particular reason the scale for his best start is different? Doesn't look like he crossed 96 very much in that one.
  6. Yikes, thought he was over his early season malaise
  7. Yea his .394 OBP is totally reminicent of past Cubs players. And you're going on ignore. Thank god for that feature. Added him a long time ago. Kind of the Junior High version of ignoring someone, where rather than ignore them, you talk about ignoring them. Interesting that you seem to know so much about Junior High behaviour, no? HORNKOHLNED I happened to be in Junior High once upon a time, yes? How about you? Did you just skip from grammar school all the way to pompus schmuck? Attack the argument, not the poster. I do think it's tactless to tell someone they're getting ignored, though, as if the ignored party is supposed to run away and cry. Yes, and I frankly don't feel that LLF deserves the crap he gets on this board. Fine to disagree, but very little has been out of line. There are plenty of people far more inflamatory. What's the deal?
  8. Dude, very little reason to be down tonight so far. Also, the sig may need to have some quiet time for a couple of days.
  9. Agreed. He certainly has plenty of philosophical flaws (which he may have come around on, actually), but he has put together 3 blockbuster deals over the last 6 years when his team was in serious contention. Prior to his tenure as GM, I can't really remember the Cubs being anywhere near as aggressive.
  10. This. I thought some people had made a strong case for the point that Marmol has actually been as valuable (or almost) as a SP due to his level of dominance in high leverage situations. Has that changed with his recent struggles? I think that was Kyle. Was there a leverage weighted measure of IP?
  11. I would in a heartbeat. Sabbathia is a Cy Young winner. Marmol is great, but not a Cy Young candidate. Are you crazy? What, you trade a very young and dominant relief pitcher just because he has a couple of bad weeks? For a guy as good as Sabathia, yes without thinking.
  12. If they can extend CC, I would do that. Actually, even if there were no experiment with Gallagher in the late innings, moving Howry to the 8th inning/high leverage role and having Gallagher right behind him on the depth charts would be fine with me. If the Cubs are really serious about getting him, I think it is clear there will need to be a meaningful piece from the big league club as part of the deal. And honestly, given his work load so far this year, there's no guarantee that Marmol would be effective in September/October. Edit: this was in response to the Marmol "what if" scenario
  13. Any chance to see some sneaky power?
  14. Eh, it had me fooled. A decent performance by Bautista last year coupled with previous good years from Washburn and Silva. Admittedly, though, I only moved here this year, so I wasn't that familiar with those pitchers outside of general name recognition. In any case, it should have been a decent enough back end behind a strong top of the rotation.
  15. Living here in Seattle, I've witnessed a team-wide meltdown on par with the Cubs in 06, 99 and 02 (sucks that I can quickly reference 3 recent Cubs teams that have crapped the bed the same way). Bavasi, while not smart in making those statements, wasn't wrong about Bedard. The guy honestly has not given a crap since being here. I know the kind of talent he has, but he has pulled himself from games twice this year saying he was gassed with fewer than 100 pitches. More is made of this because of the team's struggles and the fact that he may be the worst post-game interview in all of sports, but it would have been a disaster had he landed in Chicago. Honestly, Bavasi has made some bad moves. But he put together what everyone knew was a light-hitting team with what should have been a dominant pitching staff. Between Felix, Bedard, Washburn, Silva and a strong 1-2 at the back of the bullpen, it should have been at least a competitive team. However, the underperformances here have been astounding.
  16. Mel Rojas for me mitch williams in '89, no doubt about it Rick Aguillera in 99? Seriously, though, I always felt pretty good with Randy Myers in there in the early-mid 90s (clearly not as good as Wood now, though).
  17. Not even the best on our team. Kerry has Marmol by 26 ERA+ Points, I'd def. give the nod to him. Plus his 46/8 K:BB
  18. I'll ask without quoting the pic. What's the deal with the pics of hot blondes and runs?? It's all the same chick. Julianne Hough, and she sang the stretch last night. Damn!

  20. I missed the joke on this one. What's the deal with posting pics of a hot blonde in the context of runs?
