  1. Any idea how long until the game actually starts now that the tarp is off?
  2. He's not missing many bats either, which is even more disconcerting. He must just be pounding the zone with sinkers and fastballs. Where's this plus slider?
  3. Rich Hill's game line if the offense mysteriously disappears yet again: 12 IP, 0 H, 0 R
  4. We want Baseball! We want Baseball!
  5. No, he gets some blame, but I can't give him the lion's share. The bulk of it falls on the players themselves (especially Carlos) and a certain former manager who decide when and how much someone pitched (Eyre, Howry, Z). Larry's part in all that is minor, even if he is the pitching coach.
  6. this would be so incredibly stupid, i don't even know what to say about it How much value does Wieters have if he moves from catcher? Joe Mauer is the exception to the rule, not the new rule. Wieters doesn't have Mauer's athleticism.
  7. Well, forget the Milledge for Zambrano deal. There's no way the Cubs organization takes in an immature problem child.
  8. Great in 2007: Lilly, Marquis, Hill, Dempster Horrible in 2007: Zambrano, Eyre, Miller Good in 2007: Wuertz, Ohman (as a LOOGY) On the mend in 2007: Howry I'm not quite sure what there is to complain about. Z sucks early in the year. That's not Rothschild. That's pure Carlos. Eyre just wasn't that great to begin with. Howry might be feeling the afteraffects of logging so many innings with too little rest. Miller sucks. I doubt any pitching coach could add 5 mph to his fastball.
  9. Jacque Jones has a fairly strong arm, his throws are just all over the place. Matt Murton does not have a very strong arm (or at least he hasn't shown it yet), but seems to make the right throws to cut off men and seems pretty accurate. How is arm strength overrated for the RF position? The RFer has a much longer throw to 3rd base, and a baseball golden rule is to have a strong arm in RF for this reason. Players know who they can and can't run on, and Matt Murton is someone they can run on. Murton's arm strength is a joke, but he is quick from glove to release. That's something Jones is not. Jones has a very exaggerated throwing motion and throws in a couple hops off his back foot just for giggles. That pretty much nullifies the advantages of his stronger arm. I won't even go into accuracy. I'd rather have Murton throwing from RF than Jones, but that's not saying much. Baserunners don't fear either of them.
  10. Z really didn't pitch that well last night. There were several balls that were crushed (two by Green) and it's a miracle Z only ended up with 1 ER. 3BB and 3K is not good. His new mechanical changes looked goofy and I don't think the movement was there. There's staying on top of the ball, and there's being ridiculous and completely elevating your arm slot.
  11. I wouldn't say that. Neither of them love to walk, but at least Aybar makes enough solid contact to consistently put up a high batting average. We really don't need another utility player. We have two already in Theriot and DeRosa. A legit defensive RF who isn't a platoon player would be nice. As would an everyday SS.
  12. Someone needs to be dumped. One of Murton/Jones/Floyd has got to go. Personally, I'd trade Murton. Like it or not, Soriano has LF locked up for years to come. Murton looks horrible in RF. If he was an above average offensive corner outfielder, I wouldn't complain, but he's not.
  13. Are we going to see tears on draft day if the Cubs select Vitters and Wieters is still available?
  14. I wouldn't say a long shot. I don't really see our 'Pen getting any better. Cotts and Wuertz should be moved into the setup roles. Howry needs to be used cautiously until he figures it out. He's been too consistently good/great over the last several years to write him off. Ohman is great as a LOOGY. Eyre can be hidden earlier in games. Demp has been pretty good so far. The pieces are there. The pen just needs to be re-organized.
  15. This season isn't over by a long shot, but we sure are playing like dog poo at the moment.
  16. We might get one. We will firesale before this season is over. No wait we won't, cause Hendry knows he is toast. It's going to be tough to pull off a decent firesale with all the NTCs on this club.
  17. Between the bullpen and the fielding, I feel sorry for the Cubs starting pitchers... The fielding isnt spectacular either. I cringe every time I see a ball hit to Murton or popped up in the air. A good RF robs Wright's HR tonight.
  18. Um, Delgado is really struggling this year. Beltran is mashing. Walking Beltran is the way to go. Reyes scores from second on a single. It's not Lou's fault Wuertz couldn't throw strikes.
