    Barrett's father has some serious health issues.

    That probably will not get it done, but I like the idea of adding Chad Cordero to the pen. It is going to take alot to get him. Cordero's stock is pretty low right now. I'm not sure you make a deal involving anything more than our spare parts for a pitcher with a 1.90 WHIP and control issues. I'd certainly scout the heck out of Cordero before making any sort of trade offer.

    Well, at least Piniella is going to use Gooz late in games. At least he recognizes the skills. It seems more like a move b/c of Guzman's injury concerns and the pen performance rather than any reflection on Gooz's performance as a starter.

    There's nothing wrong with Dempster as closer. I was pretty irate with Demp on Thursday, but it's only one bad inning. He's been more than fine this season. If he converts 90% of his saves all year, I'm going to be a very happy individual. Thursday was an aberration. He's been throwing strikes and missing a lot of bats this year. Thursday was just one of those days where a pitcher can't seem to find the plate and when he does it's right down the middle. It happens. If Dempster is demoted, I want Wuertz as closer. Plus plus sliders are fabulous.

    A pitcher cannot make himself eligible for a save and therefore cannot blow that save. It's right in the rulebook.
