  1. Time to get her knocked up again. then he'd suck twice as bad.
  2. He hits pretty well with RISP (this season too, IIRC), which is good for a PH. As a PH he's hitting .206 7 for 34 I cited BA w/ RISP, not BA. Mabes is hitting: w/ RISP: .293/.380/.488/.868 (41 AB) w/ RISP & 2 outs: .350/.480/.750/1.230 (20 AB)
  3. The posters who want Schmidt need to wake up. Yes, he's cheaper than Zito. He's an injury concern and a lot older. The last thing we need to do is sink FA money into someone who will likely spend significant time on the DL in his contract. We don't need to get rid of our dependence on Prior and Wood b/c of injury concerns and replace that with Schmidt. What's the definition of stupidity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
  4. What impact player can be had for the middling prospects in our system?
  5. He hits pretty well with RISP (this season too, IIRC), which is good for a PH.
  6. When have we had an upper echelon payroll and high fan expectations/demands? Well we've been owned by a multibillion dollar corporation and had at least 90% stadium capacity for the year since the early 1990's. Oh also, we play in the third largest market in the United States. No reason why we didn't have a upper echelon payroll in the past. But then again, looking at this 95 million dollar disaster, do we really need to be throwing money around? Truly. This team is fatally flawed. It's pretty pathetic. We have Lee, Aramis (maybe), Barrett, and Z. Izturis would be ok if he wasn't injured every two days. 4-5 solid players don't make a playoff team, unless they're all in your starting rotation. Hendry was all over needing more pitching this last offseason and look how that turned out. I never wanted a guy like Burnett, just as I don't want Schmidt. You can't count on them to show up healthy and effective. There aren't any good pitching options besides Zito. But, if the Blue Jays showed anything last season, it's that more money gets the free agents irregardless of past organizational performance. If Hendry gets those purse strings open...and his butt is on the line...we could get a top FA.
  7. Dusty, your goal for this season should be to stay above .400.
  8. When have we had an upper echelon payroll and high fan expectations/demands?
  9. Rotation: Zambrano FA Signing (Zito over Schmidt b/c of injury concerns) Prior Marshall Hill We'd better hope Prior is healthy for a full season, but you know Zito will be healthy. Zambrano and Zito give us great chances to win every start. Marshall and Hill should eat innings and keep us in games. Marshall's good for a sub 5 ERA. Hill...well his ERA will be inflated b/c of a bad start here and there, but he can be dominating. That's fine for a #5. We're kind of stuck in a bind with the rotation next season. If Hendry gets too creative, we're going to end up with a bunch of mediocre vets and Zambrano. I hope he just bites the bullet and sticks with the younger guys. If Prior goes down, we'll have Marmol, who should be refining his command in AAA. Guzman, well, I don't think he'll ever be the pitcher he could have been. * I don't want to see Schmidt. He is an injury waiting to happen. We're stuck with Prior b/c of diminished trade value, but we shouldn't ever count on an injury prone SP again.
  10. stop trying to injure our players Pirates!! what are they trying to do to us? give us the #1 draft pick?
  11. Barrett popped out to the second baseman in shallow right field. Jones, thinking the ball would not be caught, was standing on 2b, and was easily thrown out. Haha. Thanks, Fred.
  12. how did Jones get doubled off again? i just started listening to the game and missed it. lol
  13. #1 pick, here we come. Mateo going tomorrow. Kid gives up too many hits for his luck to last. Another game on the Pirates in the bag!
  14. Sullivan denies the Pierre trade rumors.
  15. So was the Farns. Need someone to get three outs, take Wuertz. Need someone to tackle a batter or kick a fan, call da Farns. Hendry supposedly has a drinking problem as well (unsubstantiated rumor!). Maybe he should spend 1/2 a season in AAA as well. His ST wasn't exactly stellar either. I've never heard that Wuertz rumor, but it would explain a lot. A bad ST shouldn't get you banished to AAA after putting up solid numbers in the bigs the previous season.
  16. Realistic or not, that's exactly what should be demanded of him in order for him to return after next year. He destroyed the franchise with his moves, he's responsible for fixing it right away. I agree that he's totally responsible for this mess, but don't expect a winning team next season. Hendry isn't capable of pulling off a miracle. He isn't that good, and this organization isn't that lucky. I fully expect Hendry to be gone after next season. :D We can then start from scratch having wasted Z's cheap years and ruined Prior's arm. :( Hopefully Marshall and Hill both step up and reach their ceilings quickly at the league minimum.
  17. Uh, ouch. Looks like a 3rd of the Cubs payroll will be Aramis, Z and Lee before long. Well, this year over a quarter of our opening day payroll (95M) was Wood (11M) , Maddux (9M), and Pierre (5.75M). I can stomach spending a third of the payroll on 3B, 1B, and an ace. Spending a quarter of the payroll on a #4 starter, an offensive black hole in CF, and a no-show isn't acceptable.
  18. He had a bad Spring Training.
  19. When was this? The only one who's been good and healthy is Z.
