  1. As long as we keep running Rusch out there with his gas can, the first pick in the draft is ours.
  2. Unfortunately, Cabrera won't be coming to the Cubs. We really don't have the prospects, especially the position prospects, to get him. It looks like overspending in FA might be the way to go. I'll take Soriano over Lee in LF. He's the better athlete and baseball player. He's a butcher at 2B, but at least there's some flexibility if Ronny Cedeno tanks (if he hasn't already).
  3. Same thing they are when they're not slip slidding around the field - losers.
  4. It's too bad Arroyo doesn't play for the Pirates. I'd love a good laugh right now.
  5. What is this Dierker with the Cubs speculation? It's like the A's hiring Dusty. Not going to happen.
  6. Bynum was safe, but why is he stealing in that situation. We need baserunners, not outs on the basepaths.
  7. Well, I don't really care if we win the game-I just thought that if Guz was going to be ineffective, we could give Rusch one more chance to hopefully increase his trade value (his value can't get much worse, so there's not much danger of that). Of course, I said that before the Bay strikeout-if he's going to get out of the inning, then you shouldn't pull him and hurt his confidence in between innings-so I like that he'll pitch for a while longer until he gets into trouble again. No one is going to take Rusch. We couldn't give him away. :(
  8. Don't put Rusch in. Let Gooz go another inning or two. It's not like Glendon is going to keep us in the game.
  9. Do you think Hill will keep the #53 jersey next season? Maybe I'll ask da Muskat. She could find out.
  10. Barrett has actually done a pretty good job of driving in baserunners this year. Blaco's numbers look better, but the sample is smaller, and I don't think he could maintain that rate over a longer time. 04/03 - 08/27 BDI LOB RBI% Blanco 21 58 0.266 Barrett 34 128 0.210 CUBS 379 1624 0.189 I'm not saying that Blanco is better than Barrett with RISP, just that Barrett isn't getting it done like he did last season. Last season Barrett was well above .300 and now he's hovering around .250-.260, IIRC. It's a pretty small sample size, so it doesn't mean a lot to me. But you can be darn sure Dusty cares. The "baseball insiders" really value that BA with RISP stat...along with individual pitcher vs. batter stats.
  11. Thanks, dude. I nominate you for forum horse. Stay healthy. 8)
  12. And what a ridculous statement to make. Howry is running on fumes now. Blame that on Dusty. Dempster hasn't seen the mound in days, but it's ok to run Howry out there all the time. We're not playing for the playoffs here. I'd rather Dusty didn't ruin one of our expensive pen arms for the next 2 seasons, which he won't be here for. Dusty was all over not overusing Howry at the beginning of the season and now that his job is on the line, that all goes to the wayside. Gotta win ballgames, dude. It's a little late for that, if you ask me or the standings.
  13. Barrett is also pretty poor with RISP this season, IIRC. Personally, I don't buy into that stat b/c of it's lack of predictability from season to season, but Dusty certainly does. At least there is some stat based evidence for his decision, besides Barrett's recent slump and Hank White's recent offensive dominance.
  14. What are your thoughts on Rich Hill, kctigers? :)
  15. Last time I checked, you win with offense too. Pitching and defense, is more important than offense. If you dont have a solid pitching staff supported with a solid defense, your not going to win many baseball games. Yet, you advocate the Cubs retaining Juan Pierre who hurts the Cubs from a defensive standpoint because of his weak arm. Pierre has 0 errors so far for the Cubs this year. For the 100th time, all Pierre needs to do is throw the ball to the cut-off man. Didnt Pierre win a world series with his bad arm in CF for the Marlins? No, Pierre was part of a team that won the World Series. His bad arm really didn't help much. The point is, you can win a world series with Pierre in CF. You could win a WS with no one in CF provided the rest of the team was good enough.
  16. Yesterday Bynum is late covering 2B and today he bats second. Nice symmetry there. Way to reward performance, Dusty.
  17. rotation: Zambrano Zito (massively overpay for a non-stud, healthy lefty) Marshall Hill Prior/Miller pen: Dempster/Wood Eyre Howry Ohman Wuertz Guzman
  18. He came to camp out of shape. I see. Thanks Raisin. :)
  19. Does anyone know why John Sickels would say that the Cubs organization isn't happy with Pawelek this season?
  20. As far as I know, Willingham showed zero ability to play LF before this season. His offensive numbers as a catcher are solid. As a LF they are mediocre. If he was such a bad backstop, he should have changed positions long before this season. The scouts and baseball department had more input in that decision over a longer period of time than Girardi did. Cabrera is no defensive wizard at 3B. Moving him to 1B isn't the worst idea I've heard. Nolasco didn't exactly rock AAA and earn a promotion. Johnson skipped AAA and wasn't anything special in AA. It's pretty unfair to rip someone who saw 1 ST of these guys before offering up those opinions. Who's Almezaga? LOL Uggla seems to be the one one I can't justify. Girardi was wrong once. Big whoop.
  21. Compare those decisions to starting Neifi at 2nd Base and batting him 2nd, letting pitchers throw 120+ pitches in a game, etc. Where are these leaks coming from? Sounds like Marlins' management is playing dirty and pushing for and early exit from Girardi. Look at how Hendry and Co. are dealing with Dusty's exit (deserved or not). Class. We might even offer Dusty a 1 year contract which he'll decline just for both sides to save face. Marlins management is actually trying to damage Girardi's credibility. Who would want to coach for a team like that?
  22. In that last picture he must have seen Novoa getting ready in the pen.
  23. That had nothing to do with it. Novoa was slow to the plate with a slider, the base was stolen long before Bynum was involved. Barrett had to hold up his throw to wait for Bynum. If Bynum's waiting, there's a play at second. Wilson didn't get a great jump, even if Novoa was slow to the plate.
