  1. The really important thing is that Hill is putting up these numbers when a lot of guys (especially in the minors) start hitting the wall b/c of innings pitched. Good stuff, dominating at the end of the season like this.
  2. He did pretty well today. You have to remember that he's a power pitcher. Not having another 4-6 mph on his fastball really hurts. He'll probably get his velocity back. It was fairly encouraging that he could get guys out. The Dodgers have a lineup with some decent (and patient) hitters.
  3. On the Cubs.com site, it has JP current obp as .330 for the season. Ichiro's obp is .360. I'm not advocating JP over Ichiro, just pointing out that even tho Ichiro's obp is .30% points higher, that is not a significant difference. A .330 OBP and .360 OBP is significant. Is it? The difference is getting on base one more time every 33 tries. Which is another 25 times of being on base throughout the season. He also steals bases at an 86% success rate compared to Pierre's 74%, so he's also better at staying on base. And guys don't take that extra base on his arm. Ichiro is a signifcant improvement over Pierre offensively, defensively, and on the basepaths. If Pierre asks for something like Furcal got, this option should be explored. If anything, it would but the Cubs on the map over in Japan. It may help us acquire talent from that part of the globe. It's a pretty exclusive club: Dodgers, Mariners, Yankees... There's a lot of talent over there that we might miss out on.
  4. Did Izturis come up to bat with his glove in hand? Drive in those runs.
  5. Just put Rusch in the game already. It's getting late and we're in danger of Tampa Bay picking up a game on us.
  6. Wow. This is the worst defensive game I've ever seen from a team. Catch the ball, losers.
  7. A rotation of Zambrano/Zito/Prior/Hill/Mateo would be pretty sweet assuming Hill keeps it all together and Prior remains reasonably healthy (big assumption, I know). Our offense wouldn't even have to be that good, but it wouldn't hurt to add some run support. It's much easier to fix our rotation than our offense for next season. That where I think we should spend most of our money this offseason.
  8. As soon as Pierre asks for 3/39M, we'll be well rid of him.
  9. If he starts working in a decent change and/or cutter more often and he'll be a very legit #2. A lot of ppl are eating crow over AAAA Hill, that's for sure.
  10. not very many. Like I said, I could point to you at least a dozen outs since he's come back that Lee made that the other first baseman wouldn't have made, due to Lee's quick feet and his ability to stretch out for balls. Don't you think that saves us some runs? You're exaggerating.
  11. Theriot usually plays 2B, not SS. Izturis plays SS. It's between Bynum (Baker's pet) and Theriot.
  12. I agree with that. I wish Izturis had a little more than a couple weeks left in the season, as he is just likely to be getting back into the flow of the game when the season ends. I would have liked to see more of an indication of what he is going to do in 2007 (which could have been partially done if he had played everyday in August and September), but the injury has really made him a question mark for how he really is after his surgery last year. The one thing I personally do not question is his defense-after the first couple of games with the Cubs where he was shaky (although not as shaky as Cedeno has been many times this season), he was great defensively the next 15 games before he went down with the injury. His elbow seems fine. He had a hammy injury this time. That stuff happens late in the season. I'm concerned about his bat, but as a Cub he's been fairly patient and drawn an unusual number of walks (for him at least). If that keeps up, I can stomach the fact he'll never his for high average. Cedeno can't hit for average, draw walks, or play stellar defense.
  13. I'm glad Izturis is back at SS. Cedeno has been brutal one moment and stellar the next.
  14. If Z was healthy, he'd snap that broom over his knee after hitting the game winning HR.
  15. Opposed to 12 we paid Kerry (noodle arm) Woods? Who's Kerry Woods?
  16. MacPhail is resting on his laurels until the commish job opens up.
  17. If the plan is to give a guy a day off, don't PH him. I'd like a healthy DLee next season, not one with lingering wrist issues. The Dusty era in Chicago can't end soon enough.
  18. The Cubs would only be interested in Soriano in LF. He's a butcher at 2B and MIF defense is terribly important to Hendry. He didn't get Izturis to pair him with a horrible double play partner. Soriano has actually looked pretty solid defensively in LF from what I've seen.
