  1. Jeff, Funny you mention that. I've got a source on the East coast, who has told me twice (a month ago and during the Bears game yesterday) that he expects Hendry will "shop" Barrett to see what he can get for him. He did say he had heard that the Jays, Yanks and Rockies had all expressed interest in Barrett at the trading deadline. Barrett comes into his walk year in '07, and it seems Hendry is a bit nervous about offering him a contract extension due to some negative feedback from Cub pitchers on his defensive limitations. Rather than let him walk for nothing, he would like to get something. The source said he had heard from a Yankee contact that Hendry is intrigued with LoDuca, Pudge, Kendall and Posada, who will all be free agents at the end of 2007, and who he thinks would be good defensive catchers for the Cubs rotation starting in 2008 for a couple of seasons, who can also swing the bat. If they traded Barrett, the source said that the Cubs might look to sign a guy like Mike Lieberthal on a one-year deal to bridge the gap. Add that to the rumor mill! Don't do Bare Bare like that.
  2. I like the return of gunslinger Hendry. MacPhail's departure is was a wonderful thing for him.
  3. Ramirez's deal also helps set the market low, so I don't agree with Mr. Law.
  4. I'd be nice if Rogers actually watched the Cubs once in a while.
  5. Some one said partial NTC. Also a mutual option for the 6th year, no word on how much. We don't know how it's broken down so far, but it averages 14M per season with a 3M buyout of the option year.
  6. No one is saying otherwise, are they? No, but you and others are acting very condescending about this. Even with Ramirez signed, it might still be best to consider rebuilding if we don't land at least a couple of the premier guys on the market. I thought it was a bit premature to assume that Ramirez hadn't signed and wouldn't sign. Yes, there was one report on FoxSports.com. But it was far from definitive and there was no word from either Kinzer or the Cubs on the subject. Without waiting until Sunday to find out if anything got done at midnight the night before, the assumption was made that not only did the Cubs not resign Ramirez before he hit the open market, but that there was no chance of him returning even after he did. This is faithless, overreactionary stuff. And those that participated in it, like predicting a Cubs loss in a game thread when it turns out they won, deserve a little razzing. If you think I and others are being condescending, I invite you to read some of the remarks I get when I post something positive about the Cubs that is supported by facts and that some people on this board disagree with. This is razzing, Tim, but if you think it is inappropriate, so be it. Rotoworld and ESPN.com were also reporting it, that's really not an assumption. I think the reaction was based on what seemed at the time to be solid information. Not signing before the deadline didn't mean he wouldn't sign. People assumed he was gone and slammed Hendry right and left. That was the overreaction, not whether or not that report was accurate.
  7. The offensive line decided to show up.
  8. Burress is one player ... Enjoying the game are we?
  9. I havent heard that word in a long time. yup, it's revival time.
  10. This has been a great day so far. Keep it up, Bears.
  11. yes yes yes yes yes yes omgofdmlsdf!!!
  12. Rex Harbaugh throws for the 1st down.
  13. Seriously. Hendry is back in gunslinger mode with MacPhail gone.
  14. Hester scares the poo out of me sometimes.
  15. Didn't Greg Maddux say that Dick Pole was the best pitching coach he's ever had?
  16. Move him to 2B or back to SS and see if he can handle it.
  17. I probably wouldn't mind an opt out clause in this current deal. Having an opt-out at 31 is a lot different from having one at 28. I'd rather have team options or mutual options. Opt out clauses give the team no power. Opt out clauses also destroy trade value.
  18. Is that because Hendry is a nice guy, or because Aramis loves us almost as much as we love him? Aramis is just too lazy to be bothered to look for new in-season digs in SoCal. (Yes, it's a JOKE, I'm thrilled he's back!) Carrie Muskat was on XM about an hour or so ago and made it sound as though the agreement came this morning vs. last night. She said they were close last night but "crossed the t's and dotted the i's" today ... for whatever that's worth. So he counts as a Type A signing? :?
