  1. Hey Tim, ARam did get a partial NTC per Kaplan. What that means specifically, I don't know, but at least it's not a full NTC (or a fricking opt out clause).
  2. Is that because Hendry is a nice guy, or because Aramis loves us almost as much as we love him? I don't know, but if Hendry was a dishonest shark, I doubt this deal gets done. He would have burned his good will with ARam long ago.
  3. Kaplan just reported that the Angels were going to offer 100MM for 6-7 years today. ARam stuck with the Cubs knowing that. I know everyone likes to rip Hendry saying that while he may be a nice guy and honest, that has no place in baseball. Obviously it does. It kept our best bat at below market value...way below market value. Oh, and there is no opt out clause this time. 8) He did get a partial no trade clause though. <--- I know Tim wanted to know that.
  4. I'd tell him thank you? If my lady reads these boards I am screwed. Nope, I don't think that would happen for quite some time.
  5. 1) JD Drew in CF I wasn't too high on Drew b/c of injury concerns, but if he goes down with an injury, we just stick Pie in there. His tools and OBP skills are sexy. 2) Zito or Schmidt I'd prefer Schmidt just b/c we already have a similar pitcher in Rich Hill. 3) A platoon partner for Jones. This is a no brainer. 4) A. Kennedy or some other good defensive 2B. Theriot chills on the bench in a utility role. 5) Igawa
  6. Seriously, what does he see in this team? Oh well, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.
  7. According to Hendry, ARam left $20MM-$30MM to stay with the Cubs. That's a hometown discount! link
  8. I'd venture to guess that it was within the window, but was only reported this afternoon. I hope so too.
  9. * Remember that if Ramirez signed post-exclusive negotiations window, that's one less Type A FA we can sign.
  10. One year incentive laden deal. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-061112cubssignings,1,1078782.story?coll=cs-home-headlines edit1: to add contract info
  11. Quick, send those people PMs and hopefully they strike a deal before hearing the news.
  12. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. :D ;) :P Thank Len you were right.
  13. -Where was Lee April and September of 2004? -Aramis had the best defensive season of any NL 3B this season. -God forbid someone jog out a fly ball. It negates all their skill and talent. How do you figure that? Dude is the Todd Walker of 3B. He makes the plays right at him and rarely mishandles the ball, but has below average range...and for 3B, that's saying something.
  14. Until Hendry comes out and says the Cubs will no longer talk to ARam or ARam signs with another team, this thing isn't over. We have a ton of money to spend. Even if we have to pay Beltran money (unlikely), we're still not priced out of the market. Remember that Boras started out at 10/200M for Beltran and got 7/119M. Kinzer is claiming that he can get 7 years, 17M per for ARam. I don't think he gets it, even in this market.
  15. that's how it all starts. you two don't make any bad decisions tonight.
  16. Don't get arrested.
  17. How often does a team that loose exclusive rights end up resigning the player. I can't think of one time with a big name player. I still hope Hendry gets this done and it get announced tomorrow. Giles did last year. I don't keep track of that sort of thing, but players sign back with their old teams all the time post-exclusive window. Hendry got caught playing hardball and now Kinzer is going to milk him big now that he doesn't have any leverage (non-concrete market value).
  18. I think ARam stays with the Cubs. I really do. I've thought about it a little more. It's got to be that Hendry/Kinzer couldn't come to an agreement on what market value for Ramirez is. Now Kinzer goes out and talks to teams and comes back to Hendry with their offers, which will be big. We're going to pay out the backside now. I don't think Hendry will let ARam get away, but we're going to pay a lot more now that Hendry couldn't close the gap today.
  19. So the plan is to replace Ramirez with an inferior bat (Soriano) with an even larger contract? Hendry had better have a great excuse for this, like Ramirez slept with his wife and that's why she left him, b/c it flat out just doesn't make sense to let him leave when he's giving you a hometown discount.
  20. Just because Ramirez doesn't work out a deal before tomorrow doesn't mean he won't sign with us later on.
