  1. Do you know if the contract was insured? I'm guessing that it wasn't since it wasn't big in the scheme of things, so I expect they assumed the risk. From what I understand, it was not insured. It was a straight, guaranteed deal. Ouch for the Cubs. Bittersweet for Glendon.
  2. I didn't bother to do a linear regression (most primitive form of trend line), but it's not a straight line with 0 slope. You don't just draw a horizontal line at the average value and call it a trend line.
  3. Supposedly JH (Vance's Cubs Convention report?) said that the 11 or 12 best pitchers are going to make the team.
  4. The status que of pre and post Hendry is as much an indictment of Hendry's tenure as any I can think of. In four years the team has gone nowhere. The overall trend is flat. peaking and then dipping into a valley is "flat?" Yes. If you plot the number of wins the Cubs have achieved since Hendry took over and draw a line down the middle (known in science as a trend line) the line would be flat. The team has averaged 78 wins per season. In four years the Cubs have a losing record. In the four years before Hendry took over the Cubs average 77.5 wins. That is a flat trend 89 88 79 ------------------------ 67 66 Hendry wins/year 66/2006 79/2005 89/2004 88/2003 67/2002 Pre Hendry wins/year 88/2001 65/2000 67/1999 90/1998 That's not how you draw a trend line.

  6. That sucks for Rusch. I hope his health is improving.
  7. Did he actually say he's ok with the PH'ing/bench guy stuff? From what I recall, yes. The conference call is on Cubs.com if you want to listen to it. I think it was towards the end.
  8. Just listened to Floyd's conference call and he sounds genuinely interested in being whatever the team needs, whether it's getting his 500 PA, platooning, being a PH or bench guy - whatever it takes to win.
  9. Can someone say I told you so again when Floyd goes 2 for 3 with a double? Even in this worst case scenario, Floyd's not a scrub. No, just a broken down has been. Well, he was playing with pain all last season and he's had this injury before on the other leg. He came back from it just fine then. He's not a has been. It's not like he just inexlicably started going downhill. Injuries were the reason, not ability. He's not Sosa.
  10. it's not that hilarious. seriously, it's what 3rd graders do, changing someone's name to make fun of them. it's not offensive, but it's really stupid and childish. It was hilarious. The absolute hypocracy of it is astounding. I'm not offended, but there would be a good many human beings who would be by your remark. On the other hand, Carrie Muskat doesn't have that many followers. At least, the Carrie cult seems to be very low key, so who really knows.
  11. I seriously don't get this. Jones is going to outproduce, be healthier, and make less money than Floyd.
  12. Don't worry what Muskat has to say, she is worthless! can we stop calling her Muskat? jesus. Is it really that big of deal? No, but that's because it really reflects more upon the childishness of the person calling names than it does upon Carrie. I have no problem with refraining from calling her Muskat, I just find it hard to believe that it is a bigger deal than openly taking the Lords name in vain. Call me childish, that is cool, but to continue to let people use language on this board that IS OFFENSIVE and not call them out is a pathetic lack of control in my opinion! 1) I'm not calling you childish. I'm saying that calling people names is childish. 2) If Jesus asks me to start enforcing the 2nd/3rd commandment here, you can bet that I'll take Him seriously at that time. -- edited to capitalize "Him"! I just thought it was hilarious that a poster complained about "Muskat" but immediately followed it up with taking the Lord's name in vain. You just can't make that stuff up. But, back to Floyd. 17.5MM for 2 years (potentially)? No way does his production warrant that contract even if he's healthy.
  13. Don't worry what Muskat has to say, she is worthless! can we stop calling her Muskat? jesus. Is it really that big of deal? Obviously bigger than taking the Lord's name in vain...
  14. Muskat says Murton will likely platoon in LF and be a bench option. *&%$!!! Oh well, Murt will just have to outplay his geriatric wrinkled hiney. Lou isn't Dusty. Performance actually matters.
  15. Please don't say broken down in a Floyd thread! I hope he doesn't think he's going to get 500 AB's at the expense of big red. I'm pretty sure you can't take your walker to LF, so I think Murton's ABs are relatively safe.
  16. 3MM base? I'd be curious to see how the incentives are broken down.
  17. Ah. I thought they were going to call Pie up regardless. It sounds like some key guys are really down on Pie's offense. Good. Tear up AAA for a year and then we can tinker with the OF. Murton/Soriano/Jones will work out well, assuming Jones learns how to throw better than the average little leaguer.
  18. Meh. Ronny'd swing and miss anyway.
  19. Are you saying he's ML ready, b/c he's not. Not even close. I didn't say he was ready. I said he was young and cheap. The majority of guys in the minors are young and cheap. What's your point? That he should/could have been our temporary CF option until Pie is ready? lol
  20. Homer Bailey is better than any of our pitching prospects. By far. So they're only missing two starters...
  21. Are you saying he's ML ready, b/c he's not. Not even close.
  22. Yeah, Pie can play RF just fine, but the better defensive lineup is Murton, Pie, Soriano in LF, CF, and RF respectively. This is such crap. Pie is going to play RF instead of CF just so we can skip over the short term issue of who plays CF until Pie is ready. L A M E.
  23. Looks like Erstad is going to the White Sox. link
  24. Good. Pie belongs in CF. Murton in LF. Soriano in RF. I could give a rip who the placeholder is as he's gone by the ASB. Anyone can be hot/cold for a half a season - even the likes of Neifi Perez.
  25. We really don't have any room in our pen... Fine then he becomes the right-handed platoon with Jacque Jones.
