  5. Very nice play by Theriot at 3B to retire the side.
  6. Dang. Weak broken bat basehit. Unlucky. Lilly almost got out of this inning unscathed.

  14. Smooth, but not uber efficient. He's wasted a few pitches trying to get the K, but he's gotten a few groundouts.
  15. For a flyball pitcher, Lilly sure is getting a lot of grounders.

  19. Way to take some pitches, Jacque. That was a horrible pitch to swing at.
  20. I read that Maddux told Marquis (being pretty close friends from what I understand) to pay close attention to what Rothschild has to say, and that he has much respect for Rothschild as well. Again, I really don't pin the blame of the pitching staff woes of the past few years on Larry. I blame Dusty for his perceived overrulings of Larry's opinions/decisions. That's odd because last year I heard rumors that Maddux didn't think highly of Rothschild at all key word - rumors.
  21. Running guys out there consistently for 100+ pitches wasn't Larry's idea. That's the manager. That's why I'm reserving judgement  One thing that puzzles me a little though...if Dusty really did override him as much as we all think, I'm surprised he opted to stay here and work with Dusty again instead of going to Detroit. Makes you wonder if Hendry spoke to him and Rothschild knew way before anyone else that Dusty's time was about to come to an end. If I were Rothschild, there's no way I would have come back to be an assistant under him again. Not only that but he shunned a multi-year contract with the Tigers. He stayed b/c of his relationships with current Cubs pitchers. People may not like Larry for whatever reason, but it seems to be the consensus around baseball that he's a damned fine pitching coach. I know theirs been some rumors about Larry not being liked by Cubs pitchers, but they're just that - rumors. Guys like Maddux, Wood, Prior, Hill, Eyre, Howry, and Clement are all on record saying how much they think of Rothschild. When Maddux shows you love, you know you're good to go. I don't know anyone who knows more about throwing the rock as Maddux does.

  23. Cedeno has shown fine range. It's the routine plays he's struggled with more than anything, and that too can be rectified with regular playing time. Cedeno has shown more pop in his bat. I can't really define the managing style of Tracy in LA, but we know that Dusty preached aggressiveness, which in my opinion, stunted Cedeno's development at the plate. This may be the case with Izturis as well, but the only year he had more than 40 walks was when he was leading off for the Dodgers in 2004. I agree with you about Cedeno. Dusty/Clines really had him struggling. some of that might have been Ronny's work ethic and some of that might have been the coaching philosophy/coaching work ethic. Cedeno is a much better player than he was last season. I think he'd do well under Lou's staff, which seems to stress repetition and hard work. That's all Ronny needs to become consistent. Looking at Izturis's trends, he's improving fairly steadily in terms of plate discipline. http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs.aspx?playerid=656&position=3BSS&page=3&type=full http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs.aspx?playerid=656&position=3BSS&page=5&type=full
