  1. https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-espn-fc-united/story/4682645/what-makes-real-madridrobert-lewandowski-special-its-all-about-shot-quality Interesting article though I think it misses the point. 1 - the person shooting isn't necessarily the one creating the opportunity and should be judged more on how many they convert compared to expected and 2. xG is pretty flawed if the implication of the article is correct since the whole point should be that they add up.
  2. Sign and trade. AD? I don't know... I think the Lakers would want LaVine without having to give up AD in a sign-and-trade. The Bulls would probably try to move Vucevic + additional pieces to get AD and then re-sign LaVine to form a big 3 of DeRozan, LaVine and AD (this trio would be super talented but also pretty scary in terms of health/availability). Also, you don't have to be a basketball savant to know a Russell Westbrook/Zach LaVine backcourt wouldn't work. That's why I said their #1 priority is figuring out a way to dump Westbrook on some team. It very well might be an impossible task this offseason because the Westbrook experiment seems to fail everywhere he goes. The Lakers and their fans can dream I guess. maybe he meant the Clippers . . .
  3. Second half pretty blah. Weah is much better than Arriola. Could look at Aaronson for McKennie but I never thought McKennie did that much in the first half. I wonder if the USMNT would be much better off just picking a 9 and going with it. The rotation and lack of repetitions just doesn't help and a lot of those runs need to be timed. At this point, pick someone and let them play together. Same thing at keeper - I think it's dangerous to keep rotating people in and out.
  4. good first half after a scary first 10. Musah is so good. Also impressing is Weah and it seems like Pulisic is much more involved.
  5. Why couldn’t that be an option other than it being a major geographic outlier? Mexico would seem like the more natural fit culturally but I’m sure they’d rather have a country that A) can bring in more revenue and B) give road matches in the US a home field advantage. Not like switching confederations is unprecedented. I think he was talking about merging CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, which would have some benefits(CONCACAF would love the increased depth of quality, CONMEBOL would love having a better shot at qualifying) but probably wouldn't happen for political and logistical(imagine a Vancouver to Santiago window for qualifying) reasons. you would have to do two road games in a window (ie play two south american teams once you are down there) but it's not really worse than flying from Europe - less time zone impact in fact.
  6. I just can't find any interest in the CONCACAF Nations league - seems like we just finished playing these same crappy teams in qualifying and it's just waiting for the real matchups. The US would so benefit from being in a better confederation (not that this is a possibility but some combination with CONMEBOL? - I mean CONMEBOL qualifying is going to be a complete farce with the expanded field).
  7. wow, definitely good for US as Wales is far weaker than Ukraine - but sad as a neutral because Zinchenko is just so good.
  8. Eason sounds like the next scottie pippen . . . :-k
  9. Madrid and Tebas in full meltdown . . . love it!
  10. McKennie is back
  11. Honestly I was expecting worse from the description. He should score and didn't even get it on target, but he still had to beat the keeper which makes the angle tighter than it appears. um, that's pretty bad. he needs to score there.
  12. in better dual national news . .. https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-states-usa/story/4669939/bayern-munichs-malik-tillman-switching-from-germany-to-represent-us-sources
  13. i remember his first start against the pirates. I watched it with a friend, then we went to a party and interrupted it to watch the highlights on sportscenter lol To this day, I think the filthiest at bat I ever saw was Mark Prior v. Frank Thomas. He was throwing some low and away breaking stuff that was making a hitter the caliber of Frank Thomas look totally outmatched. Jeff Bagwell
  14. the cool thing is you made this post on 5/6/2022 future man!
  15. I think I've made this point before, but I think it highlights that the gap between Liga MX and MLS is really just the gap in the top 2-3 Liga MX spenders and who happens to be at the top of MLS the rest of the year. After last night, MLS v. non-Monterrey(Tigres & Rayados) teams are .500 in the current format that started about 5 years ago. So the Sounders definitely benefitted from neither of those teams(or Club America if they built a good team) being in this year's tournament, but also MLS sends unworthy teams to CCL fairly often through the domestic cups(especially the Canadian Championship), so that doesn't take away from the accomplishment or statement on league quality. I agree with this point but it is great! Just for the perception value if nothing else.
  16. seriously, wtf? City doesn't know how to defend deep. CP to Juventus rumor . . .
  17. Missd the tic tac toe tweet. I mean, we all assumed Zach wasn't super bright already right? it IS the ultimate competitor story - it's win, or nothing. draws are losses. don't you get it?
  18. Lukaku and CP on for Werner and Havertz. Let's see if it changes things
  19. CP is 23...list is 21 and under. yea, wasn't referring to that though I understand why you thought that.
  20. I think formation has a decent amount to do with it, recently Tuchel has favored a 3-4-1-2 and that's not a snug fit for Pulisic's skill set. Werner being in good form and a bit more natural as a second striker doesn't help either. If you have a high enough quality player, you find a formation that works for him. I guess it's just a continuation from Dortmund and on - managers don't seem to like him. Watching this, Chelsea has no penetration - they pass it around wide then cross it for two poor strikers (Werner and Havertz). Not that Pulisic is a good fit for that model (Lukaku would be though). Just seems like his ability to dribble/penetrate would be useful.
  21. how far has CP fallen? He can't get on the field for a struggling team - not exactly amazing players playing ahead of him either.
  22. https://www.espn.com/soccer/blog-espn-fc-united/story/4627276/erling-haalandpedriphil-fodenvinicius-jr-lead-the-39-best-male-players-age-21-or-under
