  1. rant: I have to admit to getting annoyed with people who say soccer players are constantly flopping. Yea, it happens, but it's so overplayed. It horsefeathering hurts to get kicked in the leg while running at full speed. Secondly, players often stay on the ground late to get some rest for themselves and their teammates. This is sponsored by the U or Pitt player who stays down - to me it looks like frustration and fatigue as opposed to pretending to be injured.
  2. I think Wes offers a lot more physicality than BA also. Aaronson is just tiny. Have you guys watched "FIFA uncovered?" Pretty depressing.
  3. The Miles Robinson injury worries me the most. That and that the last two friendlies reminded me too much of qualifying in terms of lack of chances. On the positive side, Antonee and Ream play together at Fulham and are doing well. Gio played 45 minutes for Leipzig this weekend. Weah is back. These are kind of the keys for me - we need Weah and Gio to create danger from the right. Then we need CP to come alive and take advantage of the space created on the left (and finish for crying out loud!)
  4. so not excited by the 9s . . . I have to admit I have low hopes for this world cup. getting out of the group would be a pleasant surprise.
  5. CP gets 90 in Carabao Cup. The good news is he didn't get hurt. The bad news is he isn't very good.
  6. They really did - only had one bad game (at home against Porto). Atletico Madrid got eliminated from that group - that should count for something. It counts for nobody having to watch athletico madrid's hacktastic brand of soccer!
  7. Chelsea will have their work cut out for them to avoid scoring against Dortmund.
  8. Just going by 538 because I don’t have a better site that sorts easily, but of the top 16 teams in the UCL by their ratings, 14 went through. The two that didn’t were Barcelona and Ajax and they were in groups with 2 other top-16 teams. Upsets in the group stage are obviously fun and it’s cool to see teams like Brugge and Frankfurt advance when they haven’t been to this stage ever or in a long time. But when the good teams advance, you get a ton of potentially good knockout round ties. Brugge looked strong in the group stage. Frankfurt is interesting in that they won Europa last year but started terribly in the Bundesliga - hard to know who they are.
  9. wow, Rayo takes down Madrid leaving Barca top of the table! Lots seem to see Liverpool as the loser in that tie but I think it should be fun. Not sure I have a lot of confidence in TAA to shut down Vini though . . .
  10. wow. every matchup is interesting really. Man U is a bad draw for Barcelona - they should still win but exactly the type of team that gives the problems.
  11. oooooooohhhhh. ahhhhhhhhhh!
  12. 67%? They can't draw themselves either. haha, no, I'm stupid!
  13. The Ronaldo story is getting pretty sad. I've never been a fan but incredible to see his ego destroy the latter stage of his career.
  14. Fruitless in the end but that was Pulisic's best effort that I can remember.
  15. Alabama will be 6th. If they win out they will still make the playoffs. I think what may be interesting is the Georgia/Tennessee loser v the Michigan/OSU loser as the 4th team in the CFB rankings Realistic-ish scenario: Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama all win out with Georgia beating Tennessee and Alabama beating Georgia in the SEC title game. I'd think Alabama would get in since they'd be the SEC champs and then the committee probably goes Georgia over Tennessee due to H2H if they take two SEC teams but boy that seems harsh on Tennessee. I suppose it would depend on how the games play out. Like if Georgia beats Tennessee convincingly than you take Georgia for sure. But if Georgia beats Tennessee like Tennessee beat Alabama today, then it's tougher. This post perfectly captures how stupid the CFP is.
  16. what a dull game. the announcers kept making it sound riveting and intense but . . .
  17. I think you're letting your dislike for Qatar get the best of your logical functions. How does James injury have anything to do with the timing of the world cup? You are correct that just as many injuries happen before the world cup when it's in June - probably more. This is just confirmation bias on your part. Playing in November or June has no impact on injuries.
  18. This isn't an example of that at all. Playing the world cup at the end of the season is far worse for injuries.
  19. serious prima donna vibe. this really makes him look bad. meanwhile, Juve falls at Haifa . . .
  20. Messi's 2011-12 is the gold standard for goal scoring. He had 50 goals in La Liga, 3 in the Copa del Rey, 14 in the UCL and 6 in the Super Cups/Club World Cup. In total he had 73 goals for Barcelona in 60 appearances. I hope Haaland stays healthy this year for the same reason I wanted guys like Messi or Trout to stay healthy. I want to see what kind of numbers they can put up at their peak. Messi scored 91 in 2012 calendar year. 91.
  21. unfortunate you can't see the homer but the reaction of the defenders on the infield is good.
  22. Haaland has 20 in all comps. It's October 8. And he has to (gets to) rest during the world cup
  23. NBC really sucks. I wish someone else would get the premier league.
  24. "I just see a bunch of articles by math nerds saying there's no way he didn't cheat. And a bunch saying he definitely did cheat." Heads I win, tails you lose? I'm always fascinated that people have the patience to play games like chess. I just can't be that patient.
  25. You have to think someone somewhere is doing a study on the impact of playing pro soccer as a teenager. It's not just Gio. You can go all the way back to Messi as a teenager.
