  1. They should be though because they will never overtake NY or Boston with their core. None of those guys you list CPatt, Hill, Williams, Pie, Cedeno is likely to ever be a difference maker. Tejada is for 2006. Normally I agree with you but I think you are crazy if you pass up a chance to win in 2006 to keep those four.
  2. Miggy's childhood hero supposedly was ernie banks. maybe mr. cub can meet with him and bring him over.
  3. I seriously doubt Baltimore will send him to Boston although the Manny for Miggy swap could make sense.
  4. Unless moving him to the IF teaches him the strike zone, what is the point?
  5. jockety quoted his post injury numbers and he was over .300 BA with 20 hr and 85 rbi (sorry walt didn't provide pertinent numbers). that IsoP is phenomenal! I don't really worry about wasting roster spots.
  6. I don't know! Bradley I think you can get - perhaps you trade walker and live with Neifi at 2b (then you have one blackhole and he should play SS). Rotation is: Prior Zambrano Wood Maddux Rusch Give Welly or Wuertz a few starts until wood is ready. hell, that expensive pen ought to be able to eat a few innings. Or else you hit FA market and get yourself a fill-in pitcher. There are likely some values out there.
  7. no, as an OF. Apparently he did fairly well once he got it going last year. Certainly he's worth the risk of a waiver claim.
  8. There's a difference between ANY prospect and the 4 best, 2 days after trading your only other close to the majors talent. The Cubs create a hole in the rotation (and backup in the rotation), and still haven't filled their biggest hole. Now they have $12M less to fill them with. sign clemens for a year. :D Hell, we don't need 5 aces - look who the cardinals had at the back of their rotation the last couple of years. Yea, it may hurt long-term, but do you really think any of those four are going to be irreplaceable long-term? Do you think a team that feels compelled to trade a 2.5 player like Walker is going to see the value of young players? With this management, go for it now. Perhaps we can get some A ball arms in return. That's why I'm torn. I wouldn't be upset about that deal. But it wouldn't put this team over the top. I think it would Raw - it would almost certainly put the cubs in the playoffs and I'd take my chances from there. Ok, we still need healthy pitching but that is a must in any scenario. That's a pretty good and balanced lineup. Tejada isn't dunn but with a producer 1-8, you are going to score some runs. I would go: Pierre Walker Lee Ramirez Tejada Bradley Murton Barrett
  9. He's out of options. There is a chance the Cardinals will have to expose him to waivers this spring. Any takers?
  10. What good does he do you on the bench? He won't get any better there so he is worthless pinch-hitting. His defense is mediocre. He's essentially Tom Goodwin, whom was worthless. Put him through waivers.

  12. Exactly. Like it or not, a SS with an .840 OPS is more valuable than an OF 100 points higher. That's the way the market works. Supply and demand. That being said, I'm on the fence on trading Williams, Pie, Hill and Cedeno for him. Funny, if the Cubs still had Pinto and Nolasco, that decision isn't as hard. I probably wouldn't trade that much though. Why are you on the fence? Pie is the only one amongst them that has any chance to be seriously regrettable and that is, frankly, a long shot at this point given his lack of plate discipline. Williams, Hill and Cedeno look like major league regulars as their ceiling. We aren't the Royals or Twins, we don't have to generate major league regulars (though it helps). I wouldn't trade Prior, but to not trade prospects is foolish, particularly the mediocre crop we have.
  13. I think he is now slightly below average. I would trade any cubs prospects for him in a heartbeat. We'd still need a RF but we could probably live with Bradley or Floyd out there and have a very good team. If you're not willing to trade Cubs prospects, is there a can't miss in the bunch, for a shot at winning the world series, you're not trying. I would keep Walker of course.
  14. you overvalue prospects. if any of the three or four has a better year than tejada ever, it would be an upset.
  15. pick one.
  16. what a condescending prick.
  17. One of the things Hendry said on MLB Radio yesterday was that the Cubs generally set their maximum offer it and then hope for the best.
  18. I think this may happen. Will Carroll thinks the Cubs are close to getting Bradley. Pierre, Bradley, Floyd with Murton in for Pierre against lefties. Someone had suggested this some time ago.
  19. If they are smart they will take some of it and invest it in more and better scouting and minor league player development. They could upgrade their DR acadamy. They could hire a Pacific rim scout (Leon Lee for example). They don't have to spend all of on overprice castoffs. Hendry could also save some for the trading deadline or for next year. It is time to do some forward thinking. As of today I don't see 2006 becoming the year of the Cub. But you never know. or just invest it in Shell or Exxon and spend the profits next fall . . .

you can't make trades before the draft. I agree with you on the offseason.
  23. If US presidents lost wars as frequently as Cubs GM lose games, I'd be pretty upset. But by and large, US politicians have been far more successful running this country, its states and cities than any Cubs GM I've ever met. I don't ever recall a GM in any sport losing a game. I've never even seen any of them in uniform for that matter. not the place for this but...so elected officials can keep lieing and misleading and saying things that fly in the face of facts, as long as they win wars, cuz everyone knows governments only job it to win wars. I think our energy would be better spent demanding straight talk from our elected officials instead of our team's GMs. call me crazy. and with all these Cubs GMs you've met, you should get them to NSBB for guest chats. why would you go to a cubs message board to criticize politicians? On a baseball message board, I expect to talk about baseball. Evaluating my favorite team's GM is part of that.
  24. you can, you just have to beat those good teams. bad night for the big ten really except MSU.
