  1. now you're trolling. I thought he was using humor to point out the ridiculousness of CubfaninCA assertion that just because a player gets paid more, means he should get to decide what he does, even though the franchise invests the money in him and should call all shots that might affect his future health and well being. I said "depends on the situation." There's truth to that - abusing Beckett to win the world series was probably a good decision for the marlins. Using wood out of the pen was a bad decision.

  3. That doesn't mean a thing tell that to joe torre. pro athletes can't be managed like a bunch of employees at microsoft. I'm willing to bet microsoft makes every effort to keep their employees from getting hurt at work. Seeing as pro athletes are much larger investments to their teams, they should be managed accordingly. When you are paying someone millions of dollars of guaranteed money for several years, you decide how to best use their services to win games. Hendry did and he clearly made a big mistake. Wood's opinion is irrelevant. Cub doctors said he couldn't get hurt any further. Also, the opinion of the highest paid player on the team shouldn't be irrelevant. No, they said his shoulder wouldn't get hurt any further - he could have hurt something else due to changing his mechanics. But that isn't the point anyway - the point is wood starting this april and may would have been worth more to the team than pitching out of the pen in August of last year. The Cubs should have made a better judgement of the situation and shut Wood down earlier. I don't think the point is even arguable that this was a mistake. the Cubs got nothing out of his bullpen pitching and his absence has unquestionably hurt the club this year.

  6. am pretty sure wood based his decision on doctors saying he couldn't injure himself any further. ballplayers need medical specialists to make informed decisions. You truly believe that ballplayers should decide even with informed decisions upon when they should be shut down? You CAN'T be serious. depends on the situation. they're grown men, who get paid more than their managers and gm's. if the cubs are 20 out of the wildcard in early august, of course management intervenes and shuts him down, but they weren't. The GM should be a good enough judge of the situation to realize they were not in contention and that having Wood pitch in the pen would not make them a contender. This is just another example of poor judgement by Jim Hendry.
  7. what are you right about - that wood wanted to keep pitching? so what? Putting him in the pen was still a bad idea. Now, you've stated your opinion and I've stated mine - if you are here to discuss make a point - if you are here just to get under people's skin - then you are a troll. I think you both need to stop the personal attacks.
  8. that's what happens when you hit all singles.
  9. the whole point is they are making the ball the same as everywhere else. I don't think you comprehend what dry means. the balls are different before the humidor, not after.
  10. arch or truss?
  11. just tell me when he does something different
  12. Agreed, I just made a similar post in the game thread. The secrecy is a bit strange, Maybe Hendry finally traded Walker? dusty just gained a huge advantage because bochy doesn't know restovich isn't available.
  13. My problem with calling up Pie is that he really doesn't offer much to solve the Cubs offensive problems. He is OBP limited, anddoesn't have much power, yet. I would leave him alone in AAA myself. Call up Buck Coats if you want to make a statement.
  14. Still think JP is the "3rd best hitter on this team?" Walker, Ramirez, Cedeno, Murton, Barrett are all much better hitters than Juan Pierre. Probably even Jones. is this sort of calling out of a poster really necessary?
  15. call up buck coats if you don't want to rush pie. Could he be worse than Jones or Pierre? Hell yes! But would it matter?
  16. his defense is not good.
  17. ohhh, Hendry will love Long! Fast and has no baseball skills! But he'll always be remembered for getting canned by Ichiro at 3b.
  18. I don't think that's a pitch. well duh! :D
  19. what the? He looks like he's falling over backward as he delivers the pitch? Thanks for the update!
  20. you suspect he knows that Tim? Come on, a pattern is pretty clear! I'm not really saying ban him btw, I just wish everyone would ignore him.
  21. sunnydoo seems like he just have different opinions - cubfaninca just says whatever will annoy people.
  22. thats not really the idea of daily changes - its supposed to be for unforeseen changes. Okay...which one? Can you tell me whether either Sheff or Reyes is going to play this week? If so, I'll adjust accordingly. If you can't tell me whether or not they're going to play, it's unforseen, right? that's for you to figure out. I don't get it...because I'm thinking about the possibilities in advance, I can't make changes? But if I were cluelessly going about my business of managing my team and suddenly heard an announcement about Reyes making a spot start, then I could throw him into the lineup since it wasn't thought about in advance? And why let anyone make changes on a guy with a day to day injury if I can't do it with Sheff's condition? I guess I don't see how this is different from any number of other moves people have made so far this year on guys who are day to day. Whatever. I'll just go with Lopez and Santana this week, I guess. Nobody is supposed to sub a pitcher that gets called up unless another starter gets hurt. You are supposed to set your lineup sunday and unless someone gets hurt, you leave it alone. I don't care though -do whatever you want -
