  1. Edmonds is currently a starter - as is eckstein.
  2. wait wait wait, two straight walks, and they both scored?
  3. I weathered his three starts yesterday pretty well. I'll need to get ahead before the weekend though!
  4. augh bunting! Ok, he said plate discipline too (breathe breathe)
  5. they may not earth-shattering, but they are very good and probably better than I expected. Pie is showing signs of having more than just tools . . . anyone that tells him to be more aggressive should be sacked. sB
  6. oh, I meant Augie of course . . . I don't have a problem with 44/18 - he may draw 50+ walks this year at a high level. That's not bad at all. 130ish Ks is a lot and probably the big reason for the low BA - but as you point out, his obp and slp and pretty good for a 21 year old. Plus he is progressing, which is what really matters at this point.
  7. wow, they should release him!
  8. why not start womack in cf?
  9. I don't know how many starts I have next week but this has been a slow week - possibly my first sub 250 week of the year. Hopefully the offense rebounds next week! Have you guys noticed that the Cubs are really bad this year?
  10. last year too at memorial day . . .
  11. I don't think anything will happen today, but I do think the appearance is interesting. MacPhail really had been out of the spotlight for a while and he clearly feels that he needs to be involved and active again. My guess for tonight is that he says something along the lines of "we are going to give the team a chance to right itself." Not exactly a vote of confidence but not pulling the plug either.
  12. I know - I had literally just finished reading that article though. Another example of poor journalism - apparently the cubs and the ICubs are last in the PCL in runs scored. Yes the Icusb are terrible at scoring runs this year, this is not what I am saying. It is pretty easy to see they do not score enough runs. Quade was commenting on what his team did well during that game. He pointed out that they were secussful tongiht in part becasue they were more patient at the plate. I just thought it was good to hear a manager praise his team for being patient I understand what you are saying but it would sure help if you posted a link!
  13. what's even better though, is that the game is followed by BBTN - which features red sox- yankees highlights, followed by a feature on how jorge posada has destroyed randy johnson, and then highlights from a couple other games.
  14. I know - I had literally just finished reading that article though. Another example of poor journalism - apparently the cubs and the ICubs are last in the PCL in runs scored.
  15. The Cubs' Triple-A affiliate in Iowa, like the Cubs, is last in the 16-team Pacific Coast League in runs scored. wow, I got to use that quote twice!
  16. the yankees play the red sox in the regular season?
  17. preferred: "I gave it my best shot but things didn't work out here in Chicago. I'm disappointed that I didn't get to finish what I started, but sometimes you need a change and I understand that."
  18. "The kid at shortstop made a rookie mistake and it cost us. That's to be expected when you play rookies."
  19. and three more trying to understand cubs management . . .
  20. the comparison to morris is wonderful but erroneous. wood already had his velocity back - now he needs to build up strength to maintain it. unfortunately, he is likely rehabbing the rest of this year to pitch for someone else. to rush him at this point is ridiculous.
  21. As I noted in one of the other threads, I don't see what the big deal would be if they did move him back a day ... which would keep him on the same schedule as he would be on if the Cubs had a bona fide 5th starter. Insisting on going to a 4-man once through the rotation because of the off-day just pushes the day of reckoning back two days to Tuesday. Why not just plan on Wood starting on Monday ... I don't get it. you are trying to apply logic to an organization that defies logic and facts. this is about gut feel, luck, and tradition.
  22. a few more starts and his trade value should be low enough for jim to consider it.
  23. Allow me to finish that thought: ".....we will suck only slightly less." Imagine for a second that Lee doesn't get hurt. Do the Cubs still lose 15 of 20 or whatever in May? Perhaps not but I don't see why things would be that much better. The Cubs had Lee last year and still managed 2 different extended losing streaks. Give the Cubs Lee all season and Prior and they're still no better than 3rd place. 3 runs a game!!! I know you are speculating but that would be amazing! Even if we very generously assume Lee is worth 3 runs a game by himself, that's only 6 more wins since he got hurt. The team has still been playing ball well under .500.
  24. the cubs were pretty bad pre-dusty too. I think they are referring to the mid 1930s.
