  1. bump...watching some 05 highlight vids of Mark Bradley. He is explosive.
  2. I'm in a similiar situation, but I am building a house. We have spent alot more than intended, but if it makes my girl happy, it is well spent IMO. Because the cost of an unhappy spouse is even worse... The cost of not re-signing Aram is unthinkable at this point.
  3. This is my #1 problem Hendry Philosophy: He operates on his "salary template model". He views that a top slugging offensive third baseman should not earn more than 15 million per season. Hense the stalemate. Hendry figures that if his top slugging offensive third baseman earns 18 million, then this whole "model" is thrown off. Maybe he thinks he won't have enough money to get that "Centerfielder/leadoff" guy. While trying to think three steps ahead, he is tripping over his own two feet in the present.
  4. Plenty of stupid people fall into jobs they should never have. Take Isiah Thomas for example.
  5. A few month's ago I spent an nearly an hour typing up a laundry list of my Jim Hendry gripes that I posted. With no search funtion I can't provide it. I can easily provide a detailed analysis why I think Jim Hendry is a terrible GM. But I don't feel the need. Plenty support my arugment that he is indeeed "an idiot".
  6. The guy assembled a team with a 94 million dollar payroll, that managed to lose the 3rd most games in baseball. Any member of this board could take 94 million and build a team that is better. Anyone. Numbers don't lie, Hendry is an idiot.
  7. His performance as a GM indicates otherwise.
  8. If Hendry doesn't re-ink Aram, can we please just run the fat slob out of Chi-Town?
  9. Maybe he can afford a new batting helmet now.
  10. Screw that noise. I'm sick and tired of people attempting to rationalize this. The very fact that his contract situation got to this point where he is going to hit the open market is the problem. Hendry didn't screw around with Derrek Lee. He signed him after a fluke career season a full year before he was FA eligible. You're telling me that Hendry deluded himself into actually believing that Aramis wasn't going to opt out? Look at that FA class. Everyone knew it was going to suck 18 months ago (which is why Hendry should have taken advantage of the Beltran FA class) and you're telling me that a 27 year old player coming into his prime with Aramis' ability wasn't going to opt out? No way. You get that deal extended last winter. You tear it up and sign him long term so you don't go into November of 2006 virtually guaranteed to be losing your best offensive player. This was poorly planned from the start. Allowing it to get to this point should be grounds for Hendry losing his job. We're going to lose our best offensive player for nothing because our GM is a good guy and took a player and his agent at their word that they "probably won't use the opt out clause". I'll repeat: We're going to lose Aramis for nothing. We didn't deal him, we didn't extend him like we did with Derrek Lee, and now we'll get a stupid draft pick for a guy we either should have hitting .300 with 30 HR's and 110 RBI until 2011, or should have gotten top, blue chip prospects for this past July. Give me a break. I'll take my chances with a soulless shark of a GM over the "good guy" who screws up an entire major league roster and farm system within 3 years. Even if he signs him I'm not taking any of this back. If we're lucky enough to retain him, we'll have paid more than we would have a year ago, and Hendry will have spent valuable time dealing with this instead of fixing the rest of the mess he made. He's a bad GM. He's just bad. He shouldn't have a front office job. He should go back to scouting, or minor league development, but he should not be the Cub GM, and if we luck into a World Series, it will be in spite of the job he's done. $$$ post.
  11. On the bright side, I doubt those incentives will kick in for him considering he has averaged 66IP the past three seasons.
  12. Ben Gordon will finish this season in another uniform.
  13. If Hendry won't budge over 15 per he is truly the most ignorant GM in sports. Trumping Isiah. Seriously overpay 3Mil per season for Aram. Dump the JJ salary. Sign Drew at 14 season. Avoid paying 17 for Soriano. You make your $$$ right there.
  14. Yep I'm guessing that deal took weeks for Hendry to put together - probably wasn't answering Aram's phone calls that whole time either. Aren't the GM meetings after our exclusive negotiating rights end? That ends friday. But don't worry, we have Wade Miller. He might be healthy.

  16. A rotation in shambles last season with injuries, and he openly admits a "gamble". Arrogance. Pure Arrogance.
  17. When Aram is a Dodger next week my point will be more clear. You don't have a point. No. You just don't agree with my point. Firing a 2nd dart at the Wade Miller board before securing Aram irks me. You have a point, but it is based on some pretty wild assumptions or some twisted logic. Save Isiah Thomas, I can't think of a more incompetent GM in pro sports. I don't think it wild to assume anything with him. No Cubs GM in history has done less with more.

  19. When Aram is a Dodger next week my point will be more clear. What exactly is your point? That the likely 2-3 million dollars at the most are what kept Aramis from resigning? Or are you saying Hendry totally ignored Aramis to get this done? 2-3 Million kept us from Furcal last year. I will say I think Hendry has been negilgent in getting this deal done for a while now. Had he approached Aram in Sept and offered 4/80 I'm sure Aram would have signed. IMO I think there was a attitude that Aram could not command over 15/per from any team. They failed to account for the fact that it was A. A thin FA class. B. Aramis was the only 3B worth a damn. Now they should just bite the bullet and give him 16-17-18 per..whatever it takes. Is it overpaying, of course, but it is well worth it. If he offered 4/80 in September, of course Aramis would have taken it-and we would have all called Hendry crazy. Are you sure you typed that right? 20 a year is really, really high. I meant 5/80. My bad.
  20. I think alot of factors were at work. 1) I heard the Cubs wanted him to take some type of alcohol abuse class, they had a temporary conscious I guess. 2) While there is no salary cap for the Cubs, there is the Tribune budget, a form of the cap. Had Hendry gave Furcal the top dollar maybe he couldn't have filled out the roster with the Neifi Perez's, Rusch's etc. So Hendry see's Furcal's demands and backs off over a few million per season. He then drops nearly 7 million on Rusch/Neifi/Miller. 7 Million. For spots that could have been matched performance wise by players from the minors. Ryan Theirot could have done the job of Perez, any arm from AAA could have done better than Rusch. Hendry is consumed with properly allocating a roster with these role players, etc. I'm assuming he is thinking that Miller will be his "Chris Carpenter" reclamation project. I have an extreme objection to his GM philosophy. IMO, you go out and secure as many top players as possible. Then fill in the gaps from the minors.

  22. I don't. Had I meant that I would have stated trade Jones for Giles.
