  1. no one said the BCS computers are accurate. theyre not because they're "politically correct"
  2. You're right. I'm not saying UF should be in the title game. I am not saying merit and quality are the same thing. It's the same way in baseball. It doesn't stop us from saying a team with a worse win loss record in baseball is better than another one. The current system is merit based...for two teams. It should be merit based. The real problem with the system is the only two spots in the title game. It should be two more. The current system is what it is though. What really sucks is that Big Ten and Pac 10 teams don't play title games. It hurt them sometimes, it helps them sometimes. When they're undefeated, it helps them because they don't have to play a title game. When they have a loss, it hurts them because they don't have a chance to impress the voters with a big game at the end. It always causes them to have relatively weak schedules though - even in years when the Pac 10 or Big Ten are the top leagues in the country. Really, I think a +1 system is inevitable.
  3. ugh. we're not talking about in the standings. we're talking about when it comes to telling us about the game. the actual quality of the teams. obviously I am using score as a starting point. there are other things that go into how well teams are. my main argument isn't so much the score as much as how "close" the two teams played in the game. the score isn't always the best indicator, but its a better indicator than wins and losses - which treat a 54-10 win the same as a 35-34 triple over time win. Again, the important thing to look at is how well the teams played. Winning or losing isn't very accurate at telling us that. If team A wins 31-28 and team B loses 31-28, what does that tell us about the game? It tells us that on that day team A and team B were pretty much evenly matched. If team B wins 31-28 and team A loses 31-28, it tells us the same thing. I dont understand why you guys can't get this. It's not very difficult. Stop looking at things in black and white. There many shades of gray.
  4. You see this is why you're wrong. Let's look at your real argument here. I will translate your argument into what you are really saying. You tell me if it sounds smart to you. In college football we have less games between opponents linking them up together. They also play a lot less games. In baseball, we play 162 games, with a lot more overlapping between opponents. Therefore, wins and losses tell us more in football, because they play less games. That's insanity. Wins and losses over 162 games in baseball tell us a lot more than Wins and losses in football after 12 games. What actually happens in the games matters even more in football than in baseball because there are so few games. What's the difference in a game decided by a touchdown or less? One call? One big play? C'mon. W-L are not that important when it comes to analyzing how good teams are.
  5. 6-4. Avg Difference: 9.3 For comparison SSR is 7-3. Avg Difference: 15.1 Weird. He has one more correct than me, thus far, but i've been nearly twice as accurate at predicting the scores. Weird.
  6. then block me. see if i care. You play to win in baseball. You're smart enough to recognize the difference between the two in that sport. Why not this one? Again, who actually won the game isn't as important as other things that go on in games. There's no difference between a 3 point loss and a 3 point win.
  7. Okay? I'm not saying they're best team ever. Good teams lose games. Bad teams win games. 1 loss doesn't tell us much. 0 losses doesn't tell us much. I'm NOT saying Florida should be in the NC. I am NOT saying that Florida deserves to be in the title game ahead of Penn State, Texas or Alabama. I am saying they're a better football team right now. There really isn't a good argument otherwise. I'll throw out some numbers since that game since you're interested when I feel like it. This would be a great year for a +1 system. Big XII winner, SEC winner, USC and Penn State. What really sucks is the fact PSU will have to win one big game and get in. That's why their schedule sucks - not really the Big Ten.
  8. well the games before Ole Miss? 30-6 over Tennessee, their worse loss of the season, 26-3 over Miami, their worse loss of the season, 56-10 over Hawaii, their worse loss of the season. Again, a missed PAT against Ole Miss doesn't make them any worse. If Florida hits that PAT, they're probably #1 in the country and we're not having this conversation. That's the only PAT they've missed all season.
  9. and we're back at the best team vs most deserving team debate again....
  10. and no one has played better than florida since that game. this really isnt up for debate.
  11. Florida won't pass Penn State. It's unfortunate. Penn State isn't in the class of the other teams. They were pretty lackluster against Ohio State.
  12. and now 49-3.
  13. Tebows done. And a Moody appearance!
  14. He's a very good passer, who knows how much of his passing efficiency is tied into his ability to run the football. He won't be able to do that in the NFL. He's not like Young, McNabb, Moon or Vick. He'll try to take on NFL linebackers and he will get banged up a lot. Someone will take a chance on him. He's got NFL arm strength and has nice touch on the vertical passing game. If it doesn't work out, he'd make it as a ****. f.u.l.l.b.a.c.k. is getting starred out? What the hell? I wonder if the offense that he plays in now will hamper his transition into the NFL though, similar to what Young has gone through. If he is allowed to sit back for at least a year or two before coming in it should really help him. I think most teams would take a chance on him if not all. Just how high can he go in the draft? Teams will be worried about him, and rightfully so. He'll probably be a second rounder. Stafford will go first round, no doubt should be top five. I actually think you see Tebow coming back next season.
  15. If Texas wins tonight I am becoming a Penn State fan for the rest of 2008. Am I the only one that didn't get this? If Texas wins out and Penn State loses, they would likely be playing Florida for the NC assuming they win out too. I want nothing to do with Florida. you know what everyone should be rooting for? Oregon State winning out. USC winning out. Oregon State holds the tiebreaker in the Pac 10 (they have one conference loss and two non-conference losses). Florida goes to the Sugar Bowl. We might get USC vs Florida for the Sugar Bowl with USC as an At Large. They may be playing for the title, but they're likely the two best teams in the nation.
  16. 42-3 Florida Tebows getting benched. Three games in a row Tebow has been benched with 10 minutes remaining - two of those games against top 15 opponents.
  17. 35-3 Florida now.
  18. It has been... If it doesn't work out, he'd make it as a fullback. f.u.l.l.b.a.c.k. is getting starred out? What the hell?
  19. And he's good at holding! Haden for Heisman! This is true.
  20. hadens fast he runs a 4.31. and hes like the third fastest DB on the gators and eigth or ninth on the team.
  21. hes the only QB in the SEC who makes Tebows arm look average. Both guys throw a fabulous deep ball. Staffords gotta be the best vertical passer in the country. Tebow is just as efficient, but he's able to loosen coverages by his step up play action thing he does, and he has better receivers.
  22. Florida and Georgia have been penalized all season long. In fact the year they won the NC, Florida was 119th in the nation in penalties. As for the receivers, speak for yourself, but I'd drop a lot of Staffords passes too.
  23. On the two missed field goals if he kicked them at all towards the center of the field goal they would have been blocked, especially on that last one. The main reason they're down is the pressure that Florida has been able to get on Stafford. Scares me though, god that guy has a cannon. Stafford's gotten hit hard five times, knocked down another 3 times. Last year it was the other way around. Tebow got harassed in the backfield. Stafford, to his credit, has done a much better job of keeping his composure under pressure than Tebow did last year.
  24. Not every QB can play in the PlayStation League.
