  1. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4293468.html RIP.
  2. http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/draft/features/262728.html Central is up a few quotes: if i posted too much, someone can edit out.
  3. The bidding for Matsuzaka is only four days long. He'll be posted soon after the Nov 1 date where teams are first allowed to post players. Seibu wants to use the Matsuzaka money to buy Kuroda so they certainly won't waste any time posting him. http://www.ttahara.com/carp/photo/pitcher/hkuroda/021012_DSC_0272_m.jpg and someone please tell me Kuroda isnt pitching with his eyes closed.
  4. Ive been trying to find videos of Kuroda pitching, and well it isn't going very well. At 1:10 in this video he's throwing a slider. If you want to see a flat out filthy one, go to 1:50 and Nagisa Arakaki is throwing his. It's filthy. Story time: When Arakaki was originally drafted by Orix. He didn't sign and went to college, the head scout for the Orix promptly jumped to his death from his apartment when he heard the news. I found this on Kuroda. One pitch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4YCuKkVgAI A few pitches here in the first minute or so. if i cant post these, someone just edit them out. Ironically, while browsing the highlight videos (there are a lot on youtube) i noticed that the carp played in a lot of countryside games and a lot of those games are played on fields without mounds.[/url]
  5. Man, I live in Houston and no absolutely zero spanish. I tested my spanish while looking up some Cuban stats the other day and approximated their EqA for their league. Personally I was astonished to find that five guys had OBP over .500. I guess that the equivalent would be Pujols or someone playing in the Midwest League though.
  6. hmm i thought he had chosen boras a long time ago
  7. Dunno if I am or not allowed to link this, but here's a video of him: http://youtube.com/watch?v=VJ4SR8Icwvw By power lefty I meant not a soft tossing guy who doesn't K guys. Igawa doesnt have elite velocity, but hes gets some Ks and has some life on it
  8. Yeah it's no surprise here, but out in the general public it's quite rare. Which school?
  9. Top 10s only Catchers: None First Base: None Second Base: 5. Eric Patterson Third Base: None Shortstop: None Center Field: None Corner Outfield: None Right-handed Starters: None Left-handed Starters: None Closer: None http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/prospects/features/262606.html Man oh man our system is loaded!
  10. Do you know about any rules preventing a team from bidding a lot and then not extending a fair contract with the only purpose as to block another team? For instance the Red Sox bidding $50,000,000 then only offering the major league minimum? They'd benefit from this by stopping New York from getting him.
  11. i actually i read in several places that the bidding lasts only four days. http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Posting_System
  12. I have to think if a team forks over 30 million on the posting fee, they're going to want him under their control for more than 3 years, that's 10 a year plus his salary...
  13. I am not so sure he can make the switch back rather easily. He's gained about 20-30 pounds since switching to third so I would be a bit worried about his mobility as a shortstop. Sure, he's a great player if he's there is a chance he could have a Soriano impact defensively unless he trimmed up rather quickly.
  14. Leo Mazzone had rough go at it in Baltimore the first year, perhaps he'd want to return.
  15. Let's just be happy 1994 isn't happening again and move on. Sure a slotting bonus system would hurt the Cubs, but the compensation has hurted them recently as well.
  16. Baseball is exempt.
  17. Also, apparently there is going to be a slotting system for draft bonuses.
  18. As someone said, it was the only season in his career with 20 starts where he had an ERA+ over 100. He was helped a lot by his home park and I didn't think he'd adjust well to the AL East.
  19. Except that scouts for the most part have been skeptical about how much power he is going to develop ever since his days at Georgia Tech. It's not as if he's been labeled as a guy who can develop plus power down the road such as Ryan Harvey, Brian Dopirak or even Tyler Colvin for that matter. Even Felix Pie is projected by most to have more power.
  20. Yeah but our defense is going to take a huge hit. (Luckily I guess) Jim Hendry wants guys who can catch the ball in the infield, so Soriano would probably only be signed for an outfield slot.
  21. You said that being able to hit to the opposite field causes power down the road. Juan Pierre's done all of that but the power never came. He' a 25 year old with 150 isolated power. That's not terrible, but it's certainly not good. It's likely he's going to increase his power, but it's highly unlikely to see a significant power increase. His value to the team is his ability not to get out, not really his power ability. Murton's first 650 or so PA's have resulted in a .303/.370/.462 line and a .286 EqA. That's good overall of course - but for a leftfielder it's only about 10 runs over average for 162 games. If he's as good as the statistics say on defense, he's a solid left fielder - if not he's a an average one. I think Murton's solid as is, but I think to predict a sustainable power increase is simply wrong. Matt Murton in LF wouldn't be a problem if the Cubs had good production out of RF, CF, 2B or SS. Which the Cubs have below average production at all over the place. Those four positions are bigger needs, but finding an offensive minded LF is relatively easy compared to a centerfielder, shortstop or secondbaseman.
  22. A better hitter is most certainly a better option in any spot in the lineup. Only in extremely isolated cases should someone who is faster than someone else bat leadoff - those cases are Frank Thomas because he physically can not run. OPS+ may not be the best rate statistic to grade a player on (MLVr, EqA, etc), but it's good enough to so that Juan Pierre simply isn't a good option. Pierre is a below average major league hitter and an average at best hitter for a centerfielder. Under no circumstances is he a good leadoff hitter. The problem is using career instead of recent performance. For instance, Rickey Henderson's prime had him capable of a 150 OPS+ and an EqA that rivals Albert Pujols in the .350 range.

  24. Except for you have just described Juan Pierre.
