  1. My best arguement is that Soriano played his best when Pie was on the 25 man. Now spill the beans. Well that isn't good enough.
  2. Best athlete & best defensive player in the organization. Gap power & quick bat. Blasphemy! I wouldn't suspect you scout types to understand the 6th tool! The athleticism and defensive abilities can be argued, but they're relatively pointless in the end. He's got a lot of talent, no doubts there, but there are just numerous red flags that suggest his talent will probably not lead to success. If he does, fine. He's a good prospect, but there's no way he's untouchable and if the Cubs can gain themselves wins right now, they should trade him because of his likely high bust rate.
  3. It has? I'd like to see the source of this, as the few articles I've read that claim to prove this were so specious and riddled with flawed logic it's laughable. But you may be referring to a different study than the ones I've seen, in which case I'd be interested in seeing them. lol trust me hes right other things you should learn include 1. Runs Batted In (aka RBI) are useless. 2. Wins for pitchers are useless. 3. Managers are largely irrelevant 4. Meph is always right. 5. Catchers defense is relatively worthless. 6. Batting order does not matter 7. Error do not matter. 8. Meph is always right. 9. ERA for pitchers does not really matter. 10. Steals are relatively worthless. 11. Largely, clutch hitting does not exist. 12. There is no such thing as a pitching prospect. 13. There is no such thing as a toolsy prospect who does not walk. 14. Meph is always, always correct. There are others but those are a good start.
  4. My dislike for Pie has never been refuted. People always ask me why, but I'll never respond until they make a good argument for Pie -- which has not happened yet.
  5. you are not getting bedard and roberts without trading hill if we're going after the two id try to pry bedard away for some package that does not include rich hill, maybe marmol, pie and some random crap but i dont think that there is any chance that bid will win him. trading hill for bedard straight up is probably a net loss for the team.
  6. They can have Felix Patterson as far as I'm concerned. He needs to be traded before teams start figuring out that he's lost against major league pitching. He's supposed to be this burner on the paths and he steals bases at like a 55% clip. I don't think he's got much of a baseball IQ and I'm not keeping him around solely for defensive purposes. Felix Pie first 177 AB: .215/.270/.333 Alex Rodriguez first 184 AB: .223/.270/.348 Boy, I bet the Mariners are glad that they didn't give up and trade him away after the first 184 AB. what a [expletive] comparison let's see.....Pie was a decent prospect who was 22. Rodriguez was the best prospect in the game, probably the best prospect in the history of the game -- even better than Griffey Jr, and was 18. you cant compare them dont pretend you can jesus
  7. I don't know what it is off the top of my head, but I would be willing to guess that it's somewhere between 5.25 and 5.50, perhaps higher. Another interesting study is to look at Mark Prior's ERA based off of pitch counts. When you are looking at ERA after the first four runs, you're adding a second very very high variable: fatigue. Personally, the way I would have adjusted for this is by looking at two groups, a weighted ERA based on the pitch counts where he was giving up the runs, versus the same pitch counts weighted averaged to when he had only given up one or no runs up to the point. Essentially giving meaning to this by factoring out fatigue, obviously the control group would be biased towards his good starts. If there is little to no difference between the two (which I suspect) then we can certainly conclude that Mark Prior does not self-destruct.
  8. Then why are you the voice of reason? just kidding
  9. I don't know how long ago I told people Clemens was a roider. People were like no, he's a workohaulic. I'm like no, he's classless jackass. god i hate clemens so much. i hope more dirt on him is turned up. it would be great. for the record, deer park has turned on andy pettitte (although the steroid thing is only going to add on to the rift there) people should just learn to listen to meph yo
  10. Keep it as PriorPower, because we had prior power. couldnt resist, and it's about 10 on the lame-o-meter. change it to MephPower
  11. its old, but no one called you out on it. You basically took a guy who is in the 90th percentile among guys at their position for OBP, and compared it to a guy who is in the 30th percentile in OBP at the position (give or take). 70 points of OBP is enormous. The difference between Fukudome's and Jones' OBP is about the difference between Jones' OBP and Wyatt Toregas. Yes, Wyatt Toregas
  12. Fukudome would have someone to talk to. In that case why not just sign Akinori Otsuka? He's coming off of an elbow injury as well. I'm pretty sure they'd have better topics to talk about. They did play together for Chunichi for a year.
  13. Kei Igawa wouldn't be a poor guy to look at, if the Yankees picked up some of the money. Although he's a better fit for a team like Washington, Seattle or San Diego.
  14. no, it proves he started doing them in 2003. when he stopped is unknown.
  15. to be fair, Sanchez has played at least one game at ss each of the last three seasons. he can't be any worse than theriot there.
  16. Steven Randolph pitched for the disastros last year.
  17. True, i doubt his stats are that good. Most of those seem reasonable though I think BP is too high on Fuku for this season at least and I bet Soto takes a year to grow into those stats. He is also deluding himself that last year was a fluke for Zambrano, I think Shandler is correct to expect a 4ish ERA with the downside of a 4.50+ ERA. His arm has seen too much abuse. The Marmol projection is terrible, he was lucky as heck last year but he isnt' a 4 ERA bullpen arm either. Bill James has always been terrible at pitching projections. if he had befell a season ending injury on august 26th, he would have kept a .288/.351/.376 line, and he wouldn't so much be considered the scourge of the Earth on here. and if he got hurt in july or april he would have made us desire neifi
  18. Not really. They're the same
  19. You'll have to ask Meph. He's the president of the Brian Roberts fan club... 8-) Heh....
