  1. "YOU SUCK, ***HOLE" Columbus is good for something.
  2. This concert will be through tickets.com, like any other Wrigley event. I wonder what the health of tickets.com is like right now, though. It'd certainly be dead without MLB buying it up, but it still has to be hurting. Hopefully it stays alive. If Cubs ticket sales were to be turned over to Live Nation Entertainment or whatever they're calling the merger, I can kiss getting all the Cubs tickets I want goodbye.
  3. By the way, not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but Soldier Field will officially host the June 6 qualifier against Honduras. It's a Saturday, too.
  4. I'm excited, though I probably will have to watch on a 30 minute or so delay. They really couldn't make this an 8 PM local start?
  5. This year, Northwestern will duplicate their 1875 silver ball and championship of the northwest victory over the University of Chicago. http://www.library.northwestern.edu/archives/onthisday/oct23baseballteam1875.jpg
  6. I saw Hayes pitch an inning or two in 2005 in a DH against Ohio State. Didn't do a whole lot. That was after Kontos got roughed up in a victory in game 1. As for the articles and blog post, they're fantastic. I read the first part on Friday and had forgotten to check yesterday for part two.
  7. This time it's Billy Joel and Elton John on 7/21.
  8. It was ridiculously entertaining. And I'm happy! Great win for Northwestern.
  9. Andy Provus did a very nice job filling in on WGN Radio when he a Northwestern basketball game a month or two ago. He and Masur are good basketball PBP guys. Provus probably still has some growing to do with Cubs broadcasts, but the potential is probably there.
  10. Losing Marshall to ASU hurts, but this is still one of the top recruiting classes for Northwestern in the last decade.
  11. They're talking about two different stations. The one they're hoping to have ready for opening day is not for broadcasting games. A YES-like station can only be launched once the deals with CSNC and WGN either expire in 10 years or the Cubs manage to get out of them.
  12. Very impressive play by Ching.
  13. It's not easy to project a team that will get killed on the boards and had no idea how to win a game at the end until Sunday afternoon. vs. Central Arkansas - W - 81-39 vs. TAMCC - W - 66-48 @ Brown - W - 73-64 @ Butler - L - 53-57 (NU lead 36-27 at the half and 44-43 with 7 minutes left) vs. UC Riverside - W - 59-43 vs. Florida State - W - 73-59 vs. DePaul - W - 63-36 vs. UMKC - W - 77-62 @ Stanford - L - 59-65 (Trailed nearly all game but missed a foul shot to tie it with under 2 minutes to go) vs. SMU - W - 66-55 @ Penn State - L - 57-61 (NU lead 25-21 at the half, 34-23 with 15 minutes left, and then blew it) vs. Michigan State - L - 66-77 (NU lead by 1 at the half, but Michigan State went on a 12-0 run start the 2nd half) @ Wisconsin - L - 45-74 (Only blowout loss) vs. Purdue - L - 61-63 (NU lead 34-21 at the half, lead by 13 with 15 minutes left, lead by 10 with 7 minutes left before Purdue took their first lead of the game with 67 seconds left) vs. Minnesota - W - 74-65 @ Michigan State - W - 70-63 The Penn State loss hurt a lot, but to go 2-3 against Michigan State, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, and Michigan State is pretty impressive for this team. We have an easier part of the schedule coming up, too. Of course, I don't know how people rated Northwestern before last night, so I don't know if they were overrated or not.
  14. HOLY FREAKIN CRAP
  15. 2 minutes to go and Michigan State is sending NU to the line. I can't say I blame this strategy. And it worked the first two times. Of course.
  16. Coble is on like he was against DePaul. But Moore is 0-7 from behind the arc. We're not going to win without Moore. Especially since we have 16 or 17 fouls this game.
  17. It won't be long. The final decision may come in a month or so, too. Apparently the Cubs didn't take any time to really look into the dimensions before. They wanted to wait until after the Winter Classic before they hired a firm. The field will likely have to run from home to center, which will suck a bit in terms of seating. On the plus side, it would make the entire bleacher section better off. The Trib did mention that Northwestern won't need Illinois' permission, though. I wouldn't mind seeing some throwback or retro-inspired uniforms.
  18. Yeah, you would have had to buy your share of april and may day games. I believe September, too, though I deleted the email. You'd probably end up paying twice as much for those tickets than what you could sell them for.
  19. Seriously? I didn't get an e-mail... :( You'd be better off buying tickets on the secondary market then getting that plan.
  20. This is being made a lot more complicated than it should be. This is about Northwestern and a possible local media marketing attempt. No other Big Ten team, let alone Notre Dame, USC, or Florida, would want to sacrifice a home game and that much money (lost ticket sales, traveling expenses, payout to the Cubs, etc.) to play in a 41,000+ seat field. It has nothing to do about media exposure for the Cubs or Wrigley. Think of this as no different than a Jimmy Buffet concert. The owner would get some money out of it and that's all.
  21. About damn time!
  22. This has nothing to do with drawing in national fans. It's about NU trying to increase interest in the Chicagoland area. The original linked article was updated with more information, by the way.
  23. Ah, I see. I have a hard time believing this will happen without Illinois, so it could be an idea that hangs around for a while. This isn't the big news of the weekend for the football program, though. Fitz being named to Lt. Governor Pat Quinn's ethics commission is.
  24. The host school would be pissing away tons of money for no reason. Neither has anything to benefit from playing a home game offsite.
