  1. This is going to make the Cubs/Giants series look brilliantly managed.
  2. Ah, yes. You have to play for one run against Maddux. He doesn't give up many...
  3. Did Barry Rosner just credit Kenny Williams with getting rid of the guys who "clogged up the bases" last season?
  4. On the Cubs radio broadcast Dusty said we are going to start G-Unit on Monday. G-Unit! Now that is funny. Does he think he is one of the players? Yeah, I posted that fine quote in the Transactions thread. When all else fails, at least players can have nicknames.
  5. According to Dusty, he's thinking about Wood going back to the rotation "all the time." Unfortunately, he's not ready to throw the towel in yet.
  6. Rusch will start on Monday. Yipee.
  7. And according to Dave "Mr. 'Cat" Eanet, Koronka will be work out of the 'pen. Dusty said that he'll start "G-Unit" on Monday.
  8. Iowa: RHP Jon Leicester (1-6, 5.97) vs. RHP T.J. Nall (5-4, 7.12) West Tenn.: LHP Ryan O’Malley (3-2, 5.25) vs. RHP William Juarez (5-4, 4.44) Daytona: RHP Randy Wells (6-2, 3.58) vs. ??? Peoria: RHP Mike Billek (1-0, 5.11) vs. RHP Mark McCormick (1-0, 3.50) Boise: LHP Jesus Yepez (2-0, 3.38) vs. LHP Broc Coffman (1-1, 3.68) Mesa: RHP Jose Pina (2-3, 3.86) vs. ???
  9. Awesome! The box hadn't been posted by the time I went to bed. Good news.
  10. Looks like Kevin Collins could miss the last few weeks of the season for Daytona:
  11. I'm going with Tree on this one.
  12. Todd just pitched last night. We'll see if Koronka will work out of the 'pen or not, but I'm guessing that Hendry is just looking for a fresh arm.
  13. Sure does! As I posted in Transactions, Pignatiello got the start tonight because Koronka was promoted to the big league club... And it was a called third strike that Cedeno argued about and was ejected over.
  14. Their chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and fear. Fear and surprise. Their two weapons are surprise and fear. Don't know about the ruthless efficiency part. I'd imagine Hill is getting the demotion.
  15. He was scheduled to start tonight for Iowa, but was sent to Chicago instead. This according to IowaCubs.com.
  16. Another real tough loss. 4-straight 2-out hits in the bottom of the 9th. By the way, Ron, feel better! That's gotta be scary.
  17. And there it goes... Ugh. Blown save for Shipman.
  18. Ugh. Perhaps a little too encouraging... 1) It's okay to admit the season is over. I don't think you need to worry about motivation at this point. 2) You're thinking of doing what? How 'bout you decide whether or not he'll have surgery and then do it.
  19. Kopitzke with a 2-out single to drive in Coats. 7-5. Great game by Piggy. Not sure if it was an emergency start or what. Koronka was listed as the scheduled starter early in the afternoon. 5 IP, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 0 strikeouts. Cedeno was ejected in the 4th inning, however. Moore hit his 19th HR of the season for Daytona.
  20. Pinto surrenders a 3-run double and leaves the game with one out in the 6th. Ramos coming in. Renyel seemed to have lost some velocity on his fastball in the last inning. In Iowa, Carmen helped his own cause with a 2-out RBI single. The I-Cubs have scored 2 in each of the first three innings.
  21. Sweet. And a good start to the game for Carmen. Daytona is being blown out in game 2. Enrique Cruz has a HR, but they're down 12-4 after 3. Mathes took a real beating: 1.2 IP, 8 hits, 10 runs, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 HRs. Oh, and thanks for the response, Ron! Enjoy the ice cream.
  22. Us Cubs fans are quite fortunate to have talented minor league broadcasters to listen to. A hit and run single by Sing drives in Craig. Creighton drives in a pair now with his second double of the game. 6-1 in the 6th.
  23. Pinto got into a jam but stuck out the next two batters. He has a very sharp slider tonight and lively fastball (one of which was clocked at 97 mph on the stadium gun). Still 1-0 after 4. They wasted a good opportunity in the 3rd. Kopitzke gets robbed of a double in the alley but it still brings home Creighton to tie the game. Should they give Renyel a few starts at Iowa to see how he does or leave him at West Tennessee for the playoffs? Or will he get plenty of time at Iowa to show the Cubs what he can do regardless?
  24. I left in the top of the 7th and it's a good thing I did. Rapada blew the save as the VB Dodgers won it on a walkoff 3-run HR. Nice start by Mateo, though. 6 IP, 4 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 6 strikeouts. Before the leadoff double he gave up in the 7th, he had a 3-hit shutout through 6. In game two, the Cubs are down 2-0 early after Mathes gave up a 2-run HR in the first. Theriot leads off the 4th with a single to break up the perfect game. Pinto has given up a run through 3. Iowa changed their starter from Koronka to Pignatiello.
  25. I think you can afford to sit him, Dusty.
