  1. Jeff Fassero is about to get $8 million richer over the next 3 years.
  2. I think it would be a good idea for Cubs fans to just appear indifferent to this and not let it bother them (at least on the outside). That would kill half the victory for many White Sox fans.
  3. 1/4 with a stolen base tonight. Here's what happened following his groundout in his 4th AB: Manager Rafael Landestoy is explusado by Juan Diaz, umpire of first, when discussing the play of out of F.Pie Later in the game, the guy who replaced Pie in the field struck out and was tossed by the ump for arguing. Looks like the other manager was tossed, as well.
  4. I'm sick of it, sure, but I'm also slowly coming to peace with it. The White Sox annoy me, but I don't hate them. And it's a heck of a lot better than the Cardinals winning it. My dad (even though he's not a huge sports fan), like a lot of baby boomers, was White Sox fan up until the White Sox dismantled their '59 World Series team. Bad timing for the White Sox, as that was just in time for those kids to look towards the Cubs' pair of young up-and-comers named Williams and Santo. So I presume that there are a lot of Cubs fans in their 50s out there who will enjoy this just a little bit. But most of all, I just want this darn season to be over. Maybe I'm too optimistic that some of their inferiority complex will go away after this, though.
  5. That is a good deal. I wonder who will be wearing #5 next season when Nomar is gone. :-k My guess is Neifi. Dusty will force him to change his number from 13 b/c it was too unlucky for him.
  6. They've got Wood jerseys for $95 and Garciaparra jerseys for $80 (including the ones w/o the names) b/c they're also in clearance. Quite the price break.
  7. I'll be there. Hope it lives up to the last MI - NU game in Evanston. If it does, I'll be dead with approximately 90 seconds to go in the 4th quarter. The 2000 game nearly did the job and I was only watching it on TV. Oh, that reminds me. I made some video highlights of the 2000 game. It's about 38 mb and I could watch it for hours: http://www.jonmdavis.net/northwestern110400.avi Should be clear skies and gametime temps somewhere in the mid-50s. I've never been more pumped for a football game than I am this week.
  8. I want this game so bad... 6:00 on ESPN, by the way.
  9. I believe Dusty allowed him to take the season pass/fail. It looks like BA had the full list on or just before November 5th last year.
  10. Felix struck out in his final at bat, leaving him 1-4 tonight.
  11. In the 2-hole, Pie is 1-3 so far tonight with a double and a walk.
  12. The thread was locked and moved to rants. You did nothing wrong and the original post was not inappropriate, but it turned into something that was. There were too many posts that "ruined" it and splitting those posts would not have prevented that from continuing.
  13. I don't recall any mantras regarding poor umpiring in the Vedas, but I do tend to skim when I read.
  14. Please watch the language.
  15. Cosigned. Yea, god forbid someone else would buy them and have to follow in the giant championship footsteps put forth by Tribco. I'd imagine the number of potential buyers who could keep the payroll this high and allow the Cubs to keep pretty much all of new revenue for use towards payroll while not making the team pay for Wrigley Field expansion and maintenance in the future is pretty low. One of the only reasons why a new owner would be attractive is if it meant the end of the MacPhail era and a change in philosophy, but that's far from guaranteed under new ownership. And again, new ownership would make the team less profitable since they'd be separated from WGN. It might also very well mean the end of games on WGN if a deal couldn't be reached.
  16. Well played. Probably doesn't help that they just lost Morrissey for the season.
  17. Felix batted 2nd yesterday and went 0-3 (two groundouts and a flyout) with a HBP.
  18. I might rather have Patterson leading off than do that trade...
  19. Not sure what the demand for the convention is going to be like this year. Last year, they sold out in about 90 minutes. But in 2004, the next most popular year for the convention, it took over four hours to sell out, meaning if you tried after an hour or so, you could easily get through. Doubt I'll be spending that much money on this club this winter.
  20. The AP is more like it. How did Minnesota jump up to 22 in the coaches'? #21 and climbing!
  21. Umm...so much for Basanez getting his third straight Big Ten offensive player of the week award. Does ESPN2 have alternate programming in case the refs decide to exercise the slaughter rule?
  22. Can someone tell me what happened to ASU? They were just blown out by Stanford.
  23. Sweet. I wonder if he flexed his biceps when he crossed home plate.
  24. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20051022/capt.mojf10510222104.nebraska_missouri_mojf105.jpg
  25. 250 yards out of the third stringer? Yeesh. How long is Wolfe going to be out? And the end of 2000 shall not be mentioned.
