  1. Hill's 5th: -single to left on a 2-1 pitch -groundball single to center as the runner goes, 1st and 3rd with nobody out -Stolen base on a 1-2 pitch -sac fly to right after a bunch of foul balls, runner holds at 2nd, tie game -Runner at second is out at third on a stolen base attempt thanks to batter's interference -4 pitch walk after a very lengthy delay that saw the opposing manager argue the batter's interference ruling for more than a few minutes, yet he wasn't ejected -Coaching visit to the mound -4 pitch walk -Hill pulled New catcher Robinson Chirinos has had a hard time hanging onto the pitches. Someone got up in the bullpen at the beginning of the inning. The broadcaster mentioned that he was just missing on a lot of pitches off the outside corner, although it was unclear if they could have been strikes.
  2. Sounds like a HBP and then an infield single caused by some infielder miscommunication with one out. Then a single to the gap to load the bases and an RBI bloop single to center. A 5-4-3 DP ends the inning, though. 1 run scores.
  3. Maynard would never give up his number.
  4. Hopefully he'll break 90 pitches.
  5. I'd be pretty surprised if the rule ever changed. You might as well call it the Yankees vs. Red Sox ALCS rule. MLB would hate it if those two teams ended up facing each other in the divisional series instead of the championship series.
  6. I'd look forward to the minor and developmental league stuff, but I'm sure I'd be disappointed by the lack of quantity. Same goes for the historical content.
  7. It doesn't seem like anything to worry about for those outside of the Chicago market. 2020 is a long way away and the broadcast technology available then will likely make such a channel accessible to anyone.
  8. Good move. I was a little concerned by Lovie's lack of interest last month, but this was needed.
  9. I just love that last pair of pictures. It's a guessing game.
  10. Yeah they'll try to do it, but much like buying tickets they will try to rip you off. I would recommend going in advance as opposed to doing it on gameday. Cool, thanks. I can go during lunch and shop around a bit. I didn't want to waste a lunch break taking care of it, though, if none of them traded. I have a rather generic terrace reserve outfield seat for that game, but it'll be my first week at a new job. I'm done with this job on 7/31, so 8/1 would be perfect.
  11. Has anyone ever tried trading tickets with ticket brokers outside of Wrigley before a game or in advance? Do any of them do it? I have a single for the 8/8 game against St. Louis that I'm trying to trade for a comparable single to the 8/1 game vs. Pittsburgh. I'd imagine that the St. Louis game would be more valuable to them.
  12. I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to get him to be the 2nd lefty out of the pen for this season. Nothing would shock me, but Piniella keeps going on and on about their need for a 2nd lefty in the rotation. Apparently Marshall is not that guy. If both Rich and Sean were to remain on the 25-man roster, I'd have to believe it would be Hill in the rotation and Marshall in the bullpen.
  13. I'd look up Hempy's numbers, but I have a feeling that I wouldn't want to. I'm a little surprised he was cut this early considering he's a lefty, but he wasn't showing anything. More arm troubles, perhaps?

  15. I never thought I'd say this, but it's almost as if Hendry is employing a strategy with international scouting that almost resembles something out of Moneyball. He's staying away from a certain commodity, in this case Latin American prospects, because their prices have been driven up beyond what is probably reasonable relative to their chances of success. Knowing Jim's past, I would have expected him to up the ante a bit in Latin America, but let's hope they're on to something with increased scouting out east.
  16. Who am I to argue? This was something I sort of noticed with his last outing and in the graphs of his previous outings, but Harry nailed it, I think. Harden's fastball dips in the middle innings, but he may very well be saving it for later on if he needs to use it. Let's hope that Harden and his PC out in Oakland really figured out a good plan of attach for him to keep his arm healthy for the entire season while remaining very effective. And as Harry said, that change-up is not fair.
  17. Since May 4th, Fukudome has hit .245 with a .356 OBP, slugged .365, for a whopping .722 OPS. That is what he has done since May 4th. That is a long time. That's not "oh, he's hit a rough 10 day patch." I don't understand the reasoning behind some of the knee-jerk defenses in this topic. A .722 OPS for a corner outfielder since May 4th is not good enough. Since June 4 he's hit .238 with a .340 OBP, slugged .369, for a .709 OPS, with 32 strikeouts in 122 ABs. Isn't there reasonable cause for concern here? You're right, it's not a 10 game rough patch. It's a 14 game rough patch. Again: 3/31 - 5/3 - .348/.443/.500 5/4 - 5/26 - .206/.329/.265 5/27 - 6/28 - .315/.423/.500 6/28 - 7/12 - .170/.254/.245 He's having his second slump as a big leaguer. Before this one, he was hitting .301/.407/.441. It's not a huge deal. Now excuse me while I have to go ice my knee after hitting it on my desk.
  18. What a horrible call. It's like they spliced two different calls together.
  19. You can check out the list of Cubs radio network affiliates. Some stations stream online and in the past, some even carried Cubs games.
  20. Today's start: Pitch Type Average Speed Max Speed Average H-Break Average V-Break Number Thrown Strike Percentage FA (Fastball) 92.95 97.4 -3.81 11.57 64 62.50 CH (Changeup) 86.59 88.3 -2.44 5.71 24 91.67 SL (Slider) 86.30 88.3 -0.91 5.05 8 50.00 http://brooksbaseball.net/pfx/speed.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2008/month_07/day_12/gid_2008_07_12_sfnmlb_chnmlb_1//pbp/pitchers/425848.xml&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=1 http://brooksbaseball.net/pfx/virtualTop.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2008/month_07/day_12/gid_2008_07_12_sfnmlb_chnmlb_1//pbp/pitchers/425848.xml&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=1 http://brooksbaseball.net/pfx/virtualSide.php?xml=http://gd2.mlb.com/components/game/mlb/year_2008/month_07/day_12/gid_2008_07_12_sfnmlb_chnmlb_1//pbp/pitchers/425848.xml&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=1 He apparently throws 3 different kinds of changeups and he can call them whatever he wants, but they're not the same kind of pitch.
  21. It's not the same issue. He's not getting hit hard, but he hasn't had command for the 2nd game in a row. In his 8 previous outings before his last one, he walked 2 and hit 1 over 6.1 IP. When he's been in the zone recently, they haven't done a whole lot.
  22. He gave up 3 baserunners over his last 4 outings (3.1 IP) prior to today. He wasn't exactly getting hit hard, either: double, groundout, IF bloop single, single grounded up the middle, single on a soft liner to right, walk, force out 3-6, HBP, IF single to short, fly out to right His command hasn't been good the last two times out now, but that wasn't an issue really a huge issue since the first series against the White Sox.
  23. That's the problem. He wasn't thinking. You're forgetting that Marshall can only face lefties when he's in the bullpen.
