  1. I don't care who's lovin' him... just as long as he's in the lineup. Go MM. Hope he's the player of the game on Monday!
  2. As far as the head case thing, is it assumed that somewhere along the way they're seeing sports psychologists as part of rehab? I have no idea, but if you've got two BIG investments like that, seems like you'd cover all bases to their well being.
  3. She will probably be on her best umping behavior wanting to impress and keep the job. I say it's great. Lots of female fans are very knowledgeable about the game. Finally one gets to take the field.
  4. Our outfield will be a three ring circus. Don't think we'll be top billing on Web Gems very often. However, probably good fodder for the blooper reel. Let's hope the offense they bring makes up for runs that will sore when the ball donks them on the head.
  5. Has anyone heard if they're fraternal or identical?
  6. What is Andy's gig in Chicago? I always liked him, to bad he's leaving.
  7. I am not worried either, and that is because when I think of the Cubs in 07, I no longer even really associate Kerry Wood with the team. He's been out more than in. It's a BONUS if he comes back as a real contributor. I don't care if they release it or not at this point. The real truth is right around the corner at this point.
  8. Shoot, this is really confusing. I might need to call Comcast so I can sleep tonight.
  9. Making the choice between cable and dish isn't easy because for many of us we have to factor in the needs of others we live with. Plus, I get a ton of channels with Comcast, too, and watch probably ten of them on a regular basis. Too much poker on the sports channels if you ask me! Ah, the good ol' days.... wherefor have thou gone???????
  10. It's hard for me to imagine Comcast giving up local Chicago access to DirecTV where the Cubs games are concerned. Plus WGN is a Super Station anyway. I assume it still is, but I guess with all the changes, it might not be. I've never been sure what that Comcast-WGN connection is. Does anyone know? I just can't lose my Cubbies... no way.... It's bad enough I have to be in Atlanta for a week over the 4th of July when my son goes to Junior Olympics for volleyball. Hope that they have WGN on the hotel cable deal because there is a lot of downtime at JO's.
  11. The outages are definitely a place by place issue. I have Comcast and I don't think it's gone out in two years, knock on wood. My mom as a dish through sbc and it's a nightmare. Goes out if it gets windy, rainy, snowy, etc., and in Chicago, that happens a lot. The thing witih DirecTV is that you have to look at the total offerings and yoru total home needs. I think DirecTV is great, but I like my Comcast Internet and Comcast Cable works for us. Never compared cost but I should. Comcast isn't cheap.
  12. I'm not kidding. If I lost my Cub games I don't know what I'd do! As it is, it's hard up here to keep track of what channel they're on. Last year I had local access to EVERY game, I think. A few years back, though, there were some on a local station WCIU that I didn't get with my cable company and had no way to get through them. It's been great with Comcast SportsNet taking over those. I had EI the year before last, got it for a great price pre-season, like $90 or something, but at $120 last year or whatever it was, we let it go. But we do have XM Radio, and that has the contract with MLB, right? Each year we entertain the notion of getting EI back, because we have a house full of baseball fans. Does EI have postgame? From what I recall in 2005 it cut out right when the game was over. I like the post-game.
  13. I've been offline for a whlie and jumped on this thread, but I need some clarification. First of all, let me say that I live in the Chicago suburbs, have Comcast and need my Cubs baseball to survive! All right, IF Direct TV does take over, does that mean if I kept Comcast, all I'd get is the WGN games? I wouldn't get the ones that are on Comcast SportsNet? As was stated, GN has lost more and more games to Comcast all the time, so that would stink. And I really can't see me switching to Direct TV. I know people that have it and it goes out a lot. Sometimes, the more advanced things get, the more I wish for the old way.... when ALL the games were on WGN and I had 13 channels, no cable. Got the Cubs and the livin' was good. Now it's big biz and the networks and cable companies/dish companies are involved, fans get lost in the shuffle. Darn it all! Anyway, if anyone can answer my question above, I'd appreciate it. I just want to know as a Comcast subscriber in Chicao, what can I expect? Thanks.
  14. First the White Sox win the WS Then we live through a terrible 06 season Then the Cards win the WS ... Why do I BOTHER???????
  15. I agree 100 percent. I was gonna post that but thought I'd start trouble. He often seems lazy. If Big Lou is gonna ride anyone, he's be a prime candiate. That guy (Aram) has so much untapped talent, if he just wasn't so lazy. Never takes a shred of leadership role.
  16. Yeah. I refuse to go through another offseason believing that Prior and Wood are coming back and having a productive season. It was fun while it lasted.
  17. Eyre is lazy, but I give him credit for commenting on it. Some guys just seem to be kind of managing themselves since Dusty was around, so I'm not sure how some of them are going to like being told what to do. I think it's more the "old style" baseball guys, and those hungry to be team players, that will do well with Lou's style. I could see Barrett, Murton and Lee liking him. Nots sure about the others.
  18. I've run out of worry where the Cubs are concerned. BUT, if he can get that many wins with that horrible fiasco we call the 2006 season, he's pretty much performed a miracle.
  19. Have any Cubs' players come out publicly with comments on Lou's hiring? I've been swamped here lately and haven't had time to read much on this. I'd like to hear some of the conversations they're having amongst themselves. For us it's a new manager, for them it's a new boss and I've been through enough bizarre new bosses ot know it's not always fun.
  20. I'm one of Ryno's biggest fans, but I'm not sure he's right for the team. He probably should have spent the last few years managing somewhere if he wanted to have another shot, because then he might have got the chance this time. Oh well.
  21. Three comments from me: 1) ANYONE is better than Dusty 2) I am not thrilled he's our manager 3) If he can get A-Rod here, forget number 2 above!
  22. I say let Piniella broadcast from the dugout... do two jobs at once!
  23. I just got the e-mail from cubs.com that the Cubs have officially hired Piniella as our manager. But they have it Piniella, with no I after the N.. which is it? I could be wrong, but if they're wrong.... OOPS!
  24. I don't know who would be best, who could? But what I do know is that Brenly just spent two years watching them EVERY DAY, and that's gotta account for something. I bet he has really good insight on the team, what works and what doesn't. His learning curve would be much less as far as the Cub aspect of things and the top brass, etc. He's kind of managed from the sidelines for two years now, in a way. If he saw them play every day for the last two years and STILL wants the job... I say we give it to him!
  25. I love America! Where else can you get fired for poor performance then move on to a job at ESPN!?!!? I love this country!
