    Murton

No way. We need to take a chance on quality youth in some positions, and I like Theriot and Murton. The rest I don't really care about. Keep some good rookie types and bring veterans in elsewhere, like right field and shortstop. I like Theriot at second and Murton in left. If we don't figure out the pitching staff none of it will matter anyway, so why not get a guy that is at least HUNGRY to prove himself instead of a veteran that is more concerned with the bottom line?
  2. I'm glad this bizarre season is OVER, but I feel fine admitting that I miss cubs baseball this time of year, regardless of how they did. I look forward to hearing about Cubs news in the offseason. It'll be a good one this year!

    Murton

Well, I've posted threads on "Murton's the Man" before, and I will say it again.... I say for sure we keep him, no question. Numbers aren't the whole picture. Look at him... he's got it, that quality that makes you a great player, team leader and team asset. KEEP HIM. I am SICK AND TIRED of these "veterans" who are disappointing.
  4. Bring him back. We're desperate!
  5. I don't care if they trade him... I never remember he's even on the team anyway.
  6. Who knows. I didn't know the Sox game was changed and it's in a rain delay in the 6th. I like watching the Sox now, it's like watching the Cubs.... plenty of weird, embarrassing baseball in Chicago right now!
  7. I was just thinking it feels like we played the reds a thousand times this year. I know that's not the case, but it sure feels that way!
  8. At this point in the season, who cares, I guess. But I am going to SCREAM if I hear one more Cub go on the DL. What an UGLY season.
  9. So the Rangers aren't going anywhere, but it's nice to see Gary Matthews Jr. doing well. He received Player of the Week honors in the AL.
  10. I agree with New, above. You need time to deal with WHATEVER it is on an emotional level, but then you have to move on with your life, and I'm sure D will make the right decisions. He seems like a level-headed guy.
  11. I think it's too early to say. Could be a Bump Wills. Could be a Sandberg. Either way, he's been fun to watch when not much fun is happenin'.
  12. I think it depends. Where does his family live? My thought is that if it's not Chicago, maybe they'd move to Chicago, where he'd be here half the time during the season, and maybe he'd do the deal where he doesn't travel with the team. I sure hope it's not that serious with his daughter. I haven't heard much more than the press conf on TV, but reading between the lines it's as if something more IS going on. I suppose we just hope for the best for D, and the rest will fall into place. So there was an upside to this horrible season... our big guy can leave and the team doesn't have to suffer. Let's hope for a quick recovery for Jada.
  13. That's a shame. I liked him, too. No walk of life is immune, though.
  14. I hate to see him pass Aaron, but as far as "is he great," that depends on what you deem great. If it's getting on base, then he's great. If it's about a home run threat every time up, he's great. If its about being a complete player, not so great.
  15. Is there a way to keep Rothschild and company away from him?
  16. D Lee represents what a baseball player should be. It was hard to watch him all choked up like that. He and his family deserve the best... he's a class act. He asked for prayers, so if it's in ya to throw a few prayers D's way, it's the least us Cub fans can do! I know I will be.
  17. I also read that they might let Blalock go to get some more pitching.
  18. Not sure who bought it or where they were from (maybe it was his mother!!), but prices do go up in a player's hometown or the team's hometown. Kind of like if you wanted a great deal on some Cubs card (which you could probably get in Chicago at this point!!), go to another city for it.
  19. And while Texas won't make the playoffs, Matthews Jr. helped them have a pretty good season.
  20. Will the Cubs' brass want him back, that's the question. Boy do they have a lot of big decisions to make in the offseason. Probably more than they've had in a long, long time.
  21. Usually I have high hopes at the start of every Cubs season. This year I did not, largely because of the outfiled being new and the question marks with Wood and Prior. I will say it is worse that I thought it would be, but for the first time, I never fooled myself.
  22. Maybe next year that could be Sammy somewhere. Never know.
  23. The only sensible thing to do at this point in this nightmarish season is to shut him down, which means that is exactly what they won't do. But, the good thing is from the clips I've seen, Z himself is being smart and is thinking long term. Hopefully he has a say!
  24. Yep. That clip of him taking it to the privates kind of sums up the WHOLE season.
  25. He seems like a fine guy, but he's played a key role in this team's demise and I'm willing and able to separate his personality from his 2006 performance and that STINKS. Sorry.
