  1. Here's a new book by Larry Dierker. This should give you a glimpse inot how he assesses players. In the book, he assembles two teams of 25 from the players he encountered during his playing, broadcasting, and managerial days.
  2. It seems Epstein will want a bit more than just Maddux. I had no idea that Epstein asked for Buerhle in return for Crisp. I'm guessing he just was trying to slip one by Kenny Williams while Buerhle has been struggling. If he really believes Crisp is worth that much then Crisp probably will remain on the Red Sox for the playoff run.
  3. They've been showing the ovations on Baseball Tonight. I'm sure SportsCenter is also replaying it.
  4. Essentially the lesser of the three evils. My favorite is Elijah Dukes because this is a great quote. It's good to see he gets it.
  5. That is because Peter Angelos is crazy. He should have took Aybar and Santana. That could actually improve the Oriole organization. But, he prefers the status quo. A bad team with one highly marketable player.
  6. Jim Edmonds as a Cub = heresy That is like Johnny Damon becoming a Yankee.
  7. Doesn't sound like Tejada is going anywhere. Also, is there any other owner in baseball that micromanages like Angelos does? Steinbrenner although less now than in the past.
  8. Elbert + LaRoche for Aramis plz. Joel Guzman and LaRoche could be another possibility. If Aram opts out Guzman would/could supply power that would be missing.
  9. Clearly, he decided to go after more than one heckler. ;) Also, in past games where the weather was like this (heat warning today!), typically players from the Cubs come out with hoses and use them on the fans in the bleachers. It's a surprisingly good way to cool down. If you look closely at the two pictures, he's spraying down the same fan. It is well known that Cardinal fans are known for witchcraft and sorcery.
  10. I wouldn't mind Dustin Pedroia. Maddux/Howry for Pedroia/another lower minor leaguer.
  11. Last time the Cubs swept the Cards at Wrigley in a 4 game series was 34 years ago. Go Cubs! Get the............... http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j163/Niner74/CubsSweep.jpg
  12. Duncan singles to right center......Pujols scored....Edmonds to third. 4-2 Cubs...2 outs.
  13. Ozzie Smith definitely belongs in the Hall of Fame. No doubt he reinvented the position... Not on your life. If Ozzy played today, he wouldn't even start for most teams. This alone makes him a hall of famer in my book. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j163/Niner74/OzzieSmith.jpg
  14. Miledge could already be in Cubbie blue if the Cubs would have drafted him instead of Harvey. :x Very true, but also quite a bit of 20/20 hindsight there. Not one person on this board or any expert out there called the choice of Harvey a foolish or bad selection at the time. And maybe, and I stress maybe, they had good reason. Harvey is hitting .310/.333/.655 with 9 HRs in the month of July. Might some sort of light has turned on for him? FWIW, Harvey hit four homers yesterday. Now if he could just be a bit more pitch selective. It seem he hasn't seen a pitch he doesn't like.
  15. For whatever reason the Orioles don't like to trade for prospects. Angelos in particular loves big/bigger name guys.
  16. I'm sure teams are interested in Eyre and Howry but I don't think Hendry wants to trade them. I don't think it has anything to do with their contracts. Kyle Farnsworth got 3/$17 last year. 3/10 is the going rate for good relievers. Again, I think it's up to Hendry if he wants to trade them. ok...well even then..only one is tradeable for sure...not sure which..but one has a NTC. Eyre has the NTC.
  17. In his defense, Dent is much more of a falsetto.
  18. Since a trade is a possibility, it is very well possible it was a way of allowing him to get on the mound and be removed for another and possibly final ovation.
  19. Well, he really hasn't provided a chance for me to post this. But here the Maddux we saw today. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j163/Niner74/MadMaddux.jpg
