  1. Shocking that the Cubs aren't the team with the fewest 5 plus walk games since 2004.
  2. They have Brian McCann starting on the big club and he's an all star catcher so far. That being said, I know they traded a top prospect catcher in the Bob Wickman trade.
  3. Other than the pitchers, Neifi is a big jokester.
  4. Yep. Pierre reads "Ziggy's Blue Ribbon Day" Dempster reads "Are you Going To Be Good" Eyre reads "Wrigley Field From A-Z" I believe last years included Dusty reading.
  5. Evidently it's got to be done by 1 p.m. tomorrow (eastern time I think) It was reported that a claim was put in already. However, the team is unknown as off right now. So the question is did someone claim before he fell to the Red Sox chance. The Braves have until 1pm EST tomorrow to complete a trade. Oh ok. I was reading through the thread too quickly and read it to mean something else.

  7. He's a gamer and a grinder. He plays the game the right way. Plenty of upside. A real steal for the Cubs. Kid's got spunk. Gumption too. Unfortunately he strained his intangible and is struggling right now while playing hurt, which, of course, is very admirable. He's dedicated. The guy had TJ surgery. For the Dodgers, man. Bill Russell wouldn't have done that.
  8. I laughed at that. Coincidentally you chose a pic of Tony Gwynn. Tony Gwynn Jr was selected six spots before Gorzelany in the 2003 draft.
  9. He might be no name, but he's not some hack. His career minor league ERA in 3.10, WHIP of 1.18, with a K/9 of 9.14. He had an ERA of 2.35 before his callup, 0.94 WHIP, and a K/BB of nearly 4/1. wasn't his era in the majors above 5..of course the cubs are an aa offense at best/. FWIW,he was the 45th overall pick in the 2003 draft. Not that that necesarily matters.
  10. I think there are regulations about that, actually. You couldn't be more wrong, sir. That quote is an example of why Dodger fans refer to Grady Little as Brainy Little.
  11. Dodgers They have some really good young players that are fun to watch. In particular, Andre Eithier, Russel Martin and James Loney is playing 1b with Nomar on th DL. Plus, Billingsly is in the starting rotation and Broxton is in the pen. But, if you really like watching the Cubs(esp. from earlier in the season) then you might like the Padres. They show a innability to drive in runs.
  12. Atleast Littlefield made the trade that brought Sanchez to the Pirates.
  13. You might take the gamble as would I considering the Cubs current predicament, but the question is did Hendry turn the other way on the possibility of acquiring Dukes or even possibly turn it down. In Baseball Prospectus, Kevin Goldstein wrote a piece rating the best minor league corner outfielders. Anyways, he rated Elijah Dukes sixth. That being said, I found the highlighted portion interesting.
  14. Grudzielanek has a club option next year. My guess, and this is pure speculation, is that the Royals will pick it up. I don't think it would even matter atleast in terms of the Cubs. IIRC didn't Grudz part Chicago on pretty bad terms?
  15. Ok, let's see. I'm going to say that Hendry looks at the following pitchers in the off season............. Mark Mulder Woody Williams Coincidentally, he targets a couple of Cardinals or in Woody's case former Cardinal. He is looking to sign one of the two with Mulder being his first choice. Hendry gets what he wants and nabs Mulder for the 2007 Cubs' rotation. However, Hendry still does not feel comfortable putting two young guys in the rotation to start the year. And he finally decides that Glendon will not see the starting rotation and will remain in the bullpen. This mandate is given to the Cubs' manager. So he signs Suppan another former Cardinal to join the Cubs. Your 2007 Chicago Cubs Starting Pitchers: Carlos Zambrano Mark Prior Mark Mulder Jeff Suppan Sean Marshall Note: Marmol to the bullpen and can start when needed and Guzman and Rich Hill will be in AAA and called up when needed. Not that I necesarily advocate all of this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it played out like this or something along these lines.
  16. or #36. Brad Penny wears #31. I wonder if Brad Penny wouldn't give up the #31 or if Maddux refused it because he is the "new guy". I'm guessing the latter.
  17. The game is starting back up, but Maddux has been pulled due to the rain delay. So in his first outing as a Dodger, Maddux did not give up a hit in 6 innings of work.
  18. So they have been in a rain delay for a little while now. Here you have Maddux on a new team and it's a rain delay and he can't even talk to his teammates because it could disrupt the no hitter.
  19. No hitter through 6 innings now.
  20. Going to the bottom of the 6th. He has a no hitter through 5 innings. 3 walks / 2 strikeouts Dodgers leading 2-0.
  21. That was a great moment. Also, that was the year Atlanta busted out "the chop". There wasn't much to root for before that. When it comes to playoff baseball, this is what I think of most in terms of pure electricity..................... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ17awQG1EM&search=Kirk%20Gibson The person who did this video ruined the feeling of that moment with the editing and music instead of just showing it in its original manner with the call of Vin Scully. But, here's the moment.
  22. I don't think that's fair. Pie might be the best prospect in the Cobs' system, but that just makes him the big fish in a small pond. If Pie is a crucial part of a deal that upgrades the ML roster, you make the deal. I have no problem with trading Pie, but it has to be a good deal. Can Hendry get that good deal or would giving Pie a shot be better? I'm not sure, myself. Edit: I just re read that and now I'm sounding like a Cubs fan.
  23. Do you think that 28 year old Chone Figgins would be happy about coming to Chicago with Pie in the wings at CF and Aram at 3b(assuming all the contract stuff is taken care of)? The Cubs, should be at least thinking of dealing Pie for a impact bat, or starter. He is still only a "prospect". So you agree with Dusty in the belief that this team needs major leaguers/vets?
